I am also curious how one can use hydras to clear the map in mission 1. In my experience, hydras are next to useless except in prolonged, hard battles, in which you inevitably take heavy casualties. They are extremely slow - both movement speed and initiative - and thier damage is too low for their tier. Their main advantage is toughness and decent growth rate. Add to that the fact that they rarely get to fight, and your hero eventually ends up with a pretty large stack of hydras, which serve as an insurance in case things go awry.
On the other hand, I find hydras to be among the easiest neutral opponents, right next to zombies. Blood furies will decimate them before they move even once.

Quote: It seems like a lot of other people, I am having massive problems with the 3rd mission. I take the first 2 castles fine, annihalate the demon army, but when i start going for the next 2 castles, literally 4-8 armies bum rush the portals and take everything from me...what am i supposed to do?
This one is tough. Just replayed it on Normal, so take this for what it's worth.
Both my heroes had expert logistics (I think without logistics this map would have been extruciatingly painful). On day 1 I managed to get to the first castle, deafeat the hero standing in front of it, and occupy the empty castle. Woot!
The following week I just flagged the mines and collected treasure. Empowered spells were my main weapon in this mission, especially at the beginning. Once during the first week Realag was ambushed by the neighbour when he had practically no troops. I divided what little he had into several stacks, and while the enemy targetted them one by one, I wiped him out with meteor showers...
I tried to collect as much treasure and resources as possible - there's so much stuff on this map that early on my loot probably matched my capital's income. You'll need all that booty later.
The bum rush starts after you take more cities. Here my strategy was basically a war of attrition. They have more troops than you do, but they spread them among many heroes. And with your spells you can take on enemies with larger armies than your own. In the early to mid-game Realag travelled light, leaving enough troops to defend the cities, and attacked anything that moved. Shadya stayed home, but if a managable hero wandered within her striking range, she attacked him as well (unfortunately, she was handicapped by not having empowered spells for most of the game ). Eventually as I took more cities and fought with more heroes, their troops began to dwindle to a 1-2 week's worth of growth. And yes, those 4 cities on the other side a very hard to keep from being retaken. Leave the one closest to thier capital for last - you can't hold on to it otherwise.

You guys, I don't want to sound mean but if you honestly cannot fathom how hydras and BFs can dominate that map fast, don't play multiplayer with dungeon or you'll get eaten alive...
To the first person, yes we are playing Heroic as well (I am at least). If ALL your mines had guards of those TYPES, then you got really unlucky. The majority of mine were guarded by squires, zombies, conscripts, minotaurs, griffins, war dancers, and djinn sultans. Djinn Sultans were in lots (took down 45 or so with 10 BFs and 26 assassins; lost 1 assassin. No spells), Minos were in horde, but everything else was throng.

Quote: For the life of me I can not figure out how to beat Dungeon mission 1 - Clanlord. Each time I play I build up a larger stronger army, but I can ever only seem to beat the two weakest armies in the tournament. Is there a basic winning strategy? I usually grab as many easy resources as I can the first week, building towards a basic army by the second. Then I go after resources and build wealth, then in the last week I go for the sword and the shield and gather and max my levels and spells. In the end? Some of the armies are much larger than mine AND as advanced. Help.
Let them fight eachothers and go near the black dragons. Then kill what it's left of them. If you move the right way then it will be only one of them that you will need to fight with.

Quote: I keep getting my butt kicked here. I've built up Raeleg's army, I've cleared everything in above ground area around the stairs (without taking control of either gate house). Every time I take on one of the gate houses and leave the area, I come across an orange hero who kicks my butt, hard. Any suggestions? How long did any of you wait before venturing out and defeating the gate houses?
I've just gotten Raeleg's army back up to a good size, after defeating one orange hero who did a good job of stripping me bare.
Jackie
Same problem here. I tried going out quick, staying for long, everytime the orange heroes I meet (he runs after me) is much stronger than me. When did you guys start attacking the orange?
I attacked him in week 2 or 3. I played on normal difficulty. Orange starts with 4 castles , so attack him fast.

but the heroes you will encounter (in towns) are not so bad.
And Grawl? I don't think that you can say he is not that hard with following army:
44 Archdevils
66 Pit Lords
89 Nightmares
140 Succubus Mistresses
581 Cerberi
564 Horned Overseer
631 Imps
I went through the underground behind the Red Gate. When you follow the way there and go through the portal you will come back in the bottom right corner of the map. There I followed the way to the left but right after the goldmine there Grawl emerged and with my army which consists of:
15 Black Dragons
35 Shadow Matriarchs
40 Deep Hydras
65 Minotaur Guards
350 Assassins
I see no chance to defeat him. How should this be possible?
Actually I did defeat him. And in my case, he has about 1.5 times of the armies you mentioned above. On the other hand, I had 20 blackies, 50 witches, 75 hydras, 70 minotaurs and 364 assassins. I lost all of my blackies, ~10 witches, ~10 hydras, ~100 assassins. What I did was simply lots and lots and lots of meteor showers. The assassins hit all units so all units are poisoned constantly and this helps a lot. I let hydras guard the gate so that all enemies that want to go out will have to flock the gate and retaliation will hit 2 enemies at least. The remaining that needs to be worried out is the devil but my blackies all died because of it. For some reasons, although Grawl is very strong, all he did is casting useless spells like slow, vulnerability, suffering, etc. Oh ya, and not to mention that my creatures almost always get luck in attacking. I feel sooooo good after that battle

Mission 3 and Luck Skill
I don't know if this is normal, but around week 3 in mission 3, a day starts with "Your Hero has gained a level" or something. First of all, I don't even own the hero that's leveling up, and second, I didn't fight any battles the day before. The hero leveled up to about 14? And then I found her in my tavern. o_O Is that normal...?
And another question. A few people seemed to have picked Luck as a secondary skill. Is it useful for a Warlock? I usually take Soldier's Luck, but there doesn't seem to be any creature that would benefite from this ability (maybe the Shadow Witches, but they rarely melee).

You are lucky, I just finished this mission and I search the obelisks a little bit myself.
So there is one in a cave south of the map, another NW near the emplacement of the Tears (it is a demon land), another SE just after a gate, another just behind a bunch of pit lord in the NE (not so far from the first cave, ie, the cave in your first town) and the last one somewhere in the middle-east, near a sanctuary and many Inquisitors.
I think it is all... if I forgot one, it should be one really easy to find (maybe there is one in cave NW, I am not that sure).
Hope it will help you
Now, let's play that 3rd mission!

You don't even need to find them all. If your missing just one you should see close enough of where the tear is that you can find it with few tries of digging.

In my case, he always cast phantom forces on ceberi. that's make me sick, 433 phantom ceberi q half of black dragons and then devils rape my armies. can anyone help me on this mission?

I just ran past Grawl to the garrison and went through it. It took a few tries but I eventually got it done. When I went through the devils and to above the inferno town he didn't show up yet, next turn I moved both of my heroes to the left side of the inferno town, close enough to the garrison that they can both get through it next turn, then Grawl shows up from the right, but apparently he doesn't have enough movement to reach me as he just moves in the inferno town, then I just run down to the garrison and beat the defenders easily with my full army and then Veyer isn't much of a challenge either.
I did also beat Grawl at another try, but I had so little army left after it that I couldn't beat Veyer anymore. He casted phantom forces on cerberi on my game too. Although for some weird reason, while he was listed as level something very high, he had stats of maybe 5th level hero at most. I had same thing with Cyrus in the necro campaign who was level 20 something but had the stats of level 1 wizard.

The thid mission is one of the most difficult ones in the game. It took me a few tries to get through it (I play at Hard difficulty). You should get the first castle on day 1, and the second one preferably at day 7 or 8, that is so that the computer builds it up as much as possible for you, and that you then get the second weeks troops there to help you against the demon army. After that it took me a few weeks to just fend off that seemingly endless flow of level 18+ warlocks rushing at me, then they finally stopped and I could take the castle at the lower left corner rather easily, then as soon as I got Raelag back to my main castle (to defend against the next demon army) I conquered the one at the upper left corner with Shayda. Those two castles are rather easy to keep since there is only one way leading to each. After that it was rather easy as I had more towns now. Next week after that (5th week total I think) I took the town just below their capitol with Raelag, then as soon as got him back to my capitol again I took the one at the upper middle with Shayda. The third demon hero actually started to run away from Raelag and had to chase him through half of the map all the way to that town that I had conquered last and beat him there in the town. Then just headed straight from there to take out the enemy capitol which had rather poor defenses. I noticed that Tremors ability is really nice in that mission as the computer liked to cover behind their walls so I just collapsed them on them.

i have found i way easier to beat mission 5.
i got my raelag learn summoning magic. first, go left and get some item. then let the girl hero(can't remember name) hide in sanctuary with little army. then go past left garrison, if u done it fast enough, u will encounter Grawl. defeat him(he have low army in beginning), take castle to the west. even it will be destroyed after u take, u still get the most important spell to defeat this mission "instant travel". go down and use instant travel run past every garrison. that help minimize ur army lost to zero(in fact there is one garrison that could take 3/4 of ur army to past, that is biggest problem). then rush through the castle to the south-west. don't care of neutral creep and any resources(but still get those artifacts). after that go to the hill fort in the center and before u take south-east castle, get reinforcement from zone east to the hill fort first. if u done fast enough u will encounter every inferno heroes before they become overpower by 3 castles reinforcement. then, come back and get the girl hero. run through underworld(red/blue garrison don't matter) and send her past objective garrison.
sry for my bad english.

I never went through any of the garrisons except the first and last ones. You can just bypass all the rest and orange totally by going the underground way and it only takes you a few weeks total to go that way.

Yeah in mission 5 you can run pass the underworld and the last gate to finish it quickly. But I dont do that. I kill everything in that map, 3 town, neutral and all the gates. And trust me, it feels really good
Ps : I use only destructive magic and sorcery, just keep meteor-ing and owning

if u go underground, u need about 2 weeks.
if u go on ground with instant travel, u need only about 6-8 days.
i go on ground and face only about 15 archdevils in final battle without my army lost. sweet.

I just finished this mission on heroic, Patch 1.1, and I saw no hero called Grawl here. Nor did I confront any army of that size, except for a few garrisons. This is what I did:
1. Pass through 2 garrisons, take the NW city.
2. From the NW city follow the road west, south (take another agrrison), and follow the road east. Skip the garrison with legions of familiars for now.
3. Keep east, take a small garrison, then south, to take the SE city.
4. From there, take the main road west, to pass through another garrison (400 fire elementals, hard battle), and take the final, SW city.
5. Venture into the underground, finish the 2 underground inferno heroes.
The above steps happen within the first 2 weeks or 3.
No Grawl for me!
***
IMPORTANT: FYI, post patch 1.1, Instant travel spell has been taken out of the campaigns. NO MORE INSTANT TRAVEL.
