Well, I played that when I still had version 1.0. Maybe because of this?

One tip for mission 2.
I guess the best course of action is to clear out rest of the main island, and then go for Collosus guardians when you are ready to use the ship.

Thanks for that hint.   I think it has worked for me.  I followed that strategy and after taking out the collosus, the orange ship landed.  I attacked it and it ran away!

Question:  when an enemy runs away, do their troops go with them, or are they lost?

Goderic

I have a question about Goderic in the second campaign.   Does it make sense to train him?  I read that later on, I will need to fight him, which would imply it is best to leave him at a weaker level 10.  But I have seen hints that there are reasons for buffing him up.

What say you?

Hmmm, hard one. You will fight Godric, thats true, but wou will also fight as him in a later campaign, and you will fight against Markal too. When I played the campaigns I used only Markal which makes it easier to finish The Necromancer, but of course if you finish The Necromancer AND manage to level up Godric too thats good

Just don't give Godric any light magic perks(mass haste and mass clansing may make things problematic) - make him a dark magic pwnable wuss for Markal.

necro mission two (heroic)

- i've used godric all the way (Markal only to join powerfull undead mobs  (dark knights and liches) + to raise more liches - and of course enough to reach level cap.)  The level 24 Godric with 26 Def , mass haste, resurect, retribution and haven troops + dark knights + archliches makes  final battle cake walk .

Ver. 1.5 Godric starts  lvl 24 and doen't get more exp (however has much better attributes )- Markal starts lvl 10 -> tops lvl 20).

necro mission three (heroic)

here are some general tips

- like the previous mission the Haven hero (Isabel) has much better ATT and DEF than Markal. This makes the first confrontations with the orange heroes (that Markal will win with crippling losses)easy . Later on  when artifacts and undead reinforcements start flowing Markal becomes more able to take care of himself (and his troops).

- on the first week recruit 2 additional heroes and have them  clean the seas of wood & treasure chests. Isabel and Markal must clean  starting island on first week and also flag cristal , gold and ore mines  on islands. After that Isabel and Markal should raid as many shipwrecks as possible for artifacts ad gold and visit power ups. As always when playing haven keep an eye out for Ellaine (extra peasants and double gold from them).

- by end of third week should have completed the haven town (capitol and un-upgraded creatures -> will convert them to undead anyway) and all the necropolis creature buildings. The wood and ore requirements will be very high thats why you need to capture the mines quickly and collect the wood from the seas. Try and use other resources on market place to buy sulfur (no sulfur mine ) instead of gold (will need lots of gold to purchase&upgrate all troops).

- by mid week 4 should have haven troops hired&converted + necropolis troops hired&upgraded. Time to get on the offensive. Get all troops and best artifacts on Isabel and set sail on towards the closest orange hero (should be coming for by now). Use Markal on neutrals(raise) and Isabel to battle powerful enemy heroes. On the mainland will find tons on undead troops, many stat boosters, training fort and of course tons of artifacts .... Should be home free at this point...

necro mission five (heroic)

the final battle can only be fought by Markal (about time), fortunately by this time Markal will be powerful enough to do it. Godric's haven armies have insane growth so you'll have to be quick(big surprise ).

The two towns start very well developed you will not need to many resources by the time Godric steals back your mines you will not need them anymore.
Isabel troops will desert so at end of the turn her squire will have to hold them for her. Will not build angels//archangels//dragons (too expensive). Make sure to take full advantage of Isabel's free training.
After building economy to max and creature dwelings  to Wights&Cavaliers build the Hall of Heroes(first week if possible if not week two). Priests convert to Liches and i even had the no range penalty artifact and still my liches did pitiful damage against Godric's army behind castle walls (he had huge DEF attr, expert defense + evasion + vitality). So instead I think it's better to focus on Wraiths for the final mission.(Paladins convert to Wrights). Only use Markal's Dark Points to raise wrights or Wraiths.

Day:1
Send Markal South beat everything except the titans guarding the hill fort (orange will take care of them later and suffer some losses ). Only pick gold with Markal. Send Isabel NW of the castle first (there is a bunch of gold chests there that are badly needed). Build city halls on both cities and hire a squire for Markal and one for Isabel.

Day:2
Get the ore and lumber mines, build Capitol.

...Clean main island. Send Markal on boat North to get mine and power  up buildings, artifacts and defeat first Orange visitor. From Power up island Town Portal back to necropolis town go south again and vanquish second orange (he lands near hill fort). If Orange is not here yet on boat south-west with Markal -> explore shipwrecks towards east(artifacts) and answer sphinx riddle for 20k gold. Town portal again  and kill second orange player now (if he didn't show up before ). Hire and convert heaven troops (remember to train 20 Paladins per week to convert to wrights). Get the angel wings buy some a artifacs from the merchant if you need//can afford them and fly to Godric's door.

Final battle:

My Markal had comparable def attr with Godric and double+ the attack attr. Only one magic skill "expert summoning". However because of the crazy expert Light // benediction buffs (Markal could not dispell) Godric's army is way better in melee.

Against a human player that would rush you with the academy units (after buffs) and later with the haven horde this battle would be impossible. The spells (besides the AI's imbecility) that helped me won this fight are :

"FIREWALL" -> killed titans, djins, rakshasa , archmages , Marksman (~700), 15 Paladins, ~400 Footman, ~10 Angels.

Allowed my troops to defend outside the castle while Godric wasted his mana on World's of Light (with his pathetic SP ). Mass haste and benediction on his part ensured his troops will burn faster .Only used the liches to kill off the ammo cart and ballista. After gremlins run out of ammo the remaining academy units will come to you.
Easily dealt with by your core forces waiting outside.

"EARTHQAKE" -> 2 early(after the 2 firewalls) castings take care of those annoying shooting towers. This battle will involve many waiting turns to wait for Godric to run off of mana(it may take a while - especially if he has intelligence ) and the towers can score some damage if left unchecked ...

"PUPPET MASTER" -> got this on start of mission 4 (no dark magic for me).

-first cast on the Paladins to get wasted by Angel retaliation. 15 left to burn on the firewall (Godric will cleanse//antimagic first chance he gets so be sure you have time to sinucide them on the angels before Godric gets chance to act)

-second use is the game winner if Godric is dry -> cast on the 1k footmen (fully buffed by godric) . Use them to deal a crippling blow to the Angel stack. If Godric is dry at this time victory is yours. If he manages to clean them it will involve a lot of rasing//runing around .

"PHANTOM FORCES" -> the angels cannot be puppet-ed this battle(ever ?!) so you'll have to bring them down the HARD way. Remember that WRAITH army you've been building ? (entered battle with ~ 130 still had > 100 when the remaining ~100 buffed to hell angels decided to charge - this happens when the last marksman evaporates under the firewall). Clone the WRAITHS and send them to steal retaliation (and hopefully bite a big chunk of the angel stack). Gang up with the rest of your remaining forces. Other retaliation steal candidates (a summoned phoenix if available, expendable plague zombies, lucky ghosts -  or whatever remaining forces you have -just don't risk the WRAITH stack). When the slower footman arrive puppet them to deal at least one crippling blow to the angels.

"ARCANE ARMOR" -> use it on the WRAITHS -> they are your only unit capable of actually scoring some damage this battle -> protect them at all costs.

"MASS HASTE" -> Attack skill - need this on the final stage when Angels and footman charge not to be overwhelmed.

"MofN" Godric must be the one without mana not you .

And of course you'll need a large dose of luck .

I'm having tis problem 2. I've gained the staff of the Netherworld, but don't know how to curse the city? PLZ HELP.

Just have the Staff equipped by Markal in the Weapon artifact slot, and enter the Academy town. You need to have at least 10.000 Gold in stock as well, as conversions cost that much. If you lack the cash, no conversion will trigger.

As far as the Dragons are concerned, the script calculates a sum over all Bone Dragons and Spectral Dragons and checks to see if it's 20 or more.

Well, to "enter the town" means to "re-enter", it dont ever work the first time you enter the cities, since thats when you fight them, but then, after the fight, move abit away from the city, enter again (by moving MARKAL (not the other fool) to the city gate like you would normally do on any other city. Then exit the city, then a box should pop up asking you if you want to curse the city and that it will cost 10 000 gold.

It MUST be Markal, and he MUST have the staff equipped. Note, the staff of the Netherworld is actually the name of a normal artifact, along with all the other "spescial" artifacts you are to retrive. So, if the acadamy hero had the "normal" staff of the Netherworld you will get that staff, pluss the other staff that is just the same, but maybe "tagged" differently. So see if you have 2 of the staffs (or maybe even more..!) and try equiping the other ones.

I use 1.5 with no expancion and I had no problem.

And for the 20 bondrags.. There are nutral stacks of theese dragons around, but DONT take the spectrals, and NEVER uppgrade the bonedragons as that will NOT work.

So, when you play, try to manage without pickingup the neutral bonedragons, save them to the end so you dont risk loosing them.

There are 1 stack with 15 (I think) or more bonedragons in the very south east of the acadamy mainland, and some more on the islands.. You can get 20 bonedrags by moving around with Markal.

Hope this helps!

And yeah, for those who are still on mission 3, look forward to mission 4, its nothing but fun!

EDIT: First of all, I said "DONT get the spectral dragons", well, what I ment was the the spectral dragons dont cont as bonedragons and wont count in the objective. But you are free to take them along and use them in other battles.

Second: I did mission 5, it was quite easy.. Just 1 tip, get a hero on a ship as soon as possible, there are LOTS of nice chests and floatsams in the sea! Other then that, convert all the haven troops into necrotroops and do most of the fighting with Markal. And yeah, have fun.

Vampires can only leech life from living creatures. Gargoyles and Golems are not considered living creatures and as such, you can't drain life from them. The same counts for Elementals, they are not alive as well. You should still be able to drain life from Gremlins, Mages, Rakshasa's and Titans.
