Here are some my advices for the map (on heroic).

First, I would pick hell chargers as a bonus. Then fighting for boots, for me there were 16-17 clerics from Haven. Lost a hell charger, but luckily all cerberi stayed alive. And this is actually hardest battle, as resall others are against melee walker creatures.

Now going down the road, fight for stables, then turn east, past the marketplace. Don't pick anything but the boots, really not needed. Might just leave your route to pick some inferno joiners, there are imps, and cerberi iirc.

Then there were some horde of squires for me. Pass that, there should be skeleton archers. When you beat them, you should see how the road goes to red keymaster, sanctuary is near as well. Horde of minotaurs block the way though, but they are not that tough, just keep using cerberi wisely. Grab tent, then see where that strong blue hero (Godric) is. As when you go through one way portal, it will transfer you a bit to the west, near red border, and Godric might be close there. If needed, wait a turn, and then head there.

Now just pass border, go underground, and keep going where road leads. Pass those demon dwellings, not needed, though might grab hell hounds from their dwellings.

Go past fire elementals, past water elementals, and past shadow dragons. Try fighting them though if you want, good exp., but not needed for final fight.

And then exit to surface, short movie comes and inferno hero attacks you.

Not really tough, 1 devil, 15, succubi, 2 pit fiends (lords?), and some demons, hell hounds. If you had some joiners, it's a cake walk. If not, a bit harder, but still quite doable. Have some 1 imp fodder, and use gating.

Choose Pit Fiends as a bonus. Forget about Inferno City - buy City Hall (money) and Marketplace (for mercury exchange) only. Kill Gilraen (without Pit Fiends) and capture first Sylvan city asap.

Use your hero to clean mines (Pit Fiends are very useful) and upgrade your city (capitol + all dwellings). You'll have two gold mines + city hall (Inferno) + capitol (sylvan). That's a lot of money so invest them in resources at marketplace (mercury!). You'll need big army with emerald dragons (max 4-5) at the end of 7-8 week if you want to win.

At the end of second month, take your hero to the north and capture the second city (left edge of the map). Go north, capture the third city and  kill druids. There will be 2 enemy heroes at the southern part of a map and Gilraen. Go back to the second town and wait there for enemy. I've played that way two times and in each scenario Gilraen split his army to other hero and run away to the north-east. This hero, packed with big army, came to me. I killed all of them (with big help of defend towers) and Raise Dead + Decay spells.

Hunt down Gilraen (10 Treants) and kill him.

I tried this strategy....after capturing the second village, I had 5 gem dragons, 10 Ancient treants, 15 Unicorns (highest upgrade), 100 blade runners (the upgraded ones), 40 Master hunters and about 80 Sprites.....Had an enemy hero on my back, so I stayed in the second village to defend....There he arraived with one HUGE army...9 Gem dragons, 100 Druids and hunters, tons of sprites.....AND 60 UNICORNS!! I didnt stand a chance at all.......any help out there please, this mission is killing me

In the Lvl4 you can gather a great sylvan army with diplomacy (especially master hunters). However you lose some sylvan units every turn so capture inferno ASAP. I suggest not to build sylvan town above druids and develop inferno instead. There are plenty of mines underground and a lot of resources on the map so you can get very good *native* army. Also you can get 7 Pit lords per week due to military post.

If someone is interested in how i did pass it, you can read all the bad-english-very-long text above. Thanks to syzygy.

I did pass it with syzygy's method. Captured first sylvan town in a few first days. After that i cleaned and took mines with hero and his Inferno troops. (2 pit fiends, 15 demon(tier2), ~80 familiars and 15 succubi). In the town i tried to build every turn and built only dwellings+money income buildings. In the Inferno town, i built only Marketplace+Town Hall. When 1 month and 3 weeks passed, i took all my army. (something like 4-5 emerald dragons, ~60 archers, 8 trees, ~50 dancers and sprites, ~25 druids, 20 unicorns, all upgraded) and headed through phoenixes and captured the north-west city. I could have much bigger army if not the my-own-mistake wastes of low tier troops on a few neutrals. After i captured it i got attacked by their army with enormous amount of troops.(45 unicorns, 6 dragons, 120 archers, 45 druids, 300 dancers, 400 sprites) I did fight them with what i had(listed up there, on taking their city did lose almost nothing). Had a very hard win, left with 1 pixie and 25 hunters. My strategy was killing their archers with mine(they were more, but i had level 20 hero with more attack and max upgraded ballista), killing their catapult, killing all flying creatures and trying to kill all what left standing under the walls and can't enter before their hero kills my troops. Took a lot of turns to kill them, but with illusion spell i made 4 packs of 50 archers(was a bit lucky though with "incorporeal" misses), succeeded in killing/holding all their dragon and sprites before they reached the archers. After that win i was walking with my hero with 1 dragon, 15 hunters, 1 pixie and 4 druids and suddenly Gilraen came out of nowhere and attacked me. He had 11 trees and a few hunters, but i won. After that i went to kill druids. (8 trees, and 4 packs of 8 elder druids). With combined fresh populations of 2 sylvan cities i went to their last one and captured him very easily.

A little status on this one from me....instead of waiting in the second village, I started a run for the third....and the hero with that huge army followed me instead of taking the village back, but he was slower then mine hero. so I reached the third city and there was Gilraen with only 60 sprites! Kicked his a$$ easy and started to run again! This time the enemy hero took back the village....I will continue this missin today, and my plan is  to run around and summon creature each week until I'm strong enough to take him out. Or just make the run for the druids and third town.....does the mission end then, or will it be added a objectiv?? Since druids is in a dead end where the enemy will reach me....

U guys can try mine . Its not very difficult if u can attack with a weak army at first , then everything later will be quite simple cause the guards are quite weak at that time . Heres exactly how i played .

1)Choose PF as bonus , i tried to attack as soon as possible . I took the 2 gold mines quite easy , but other mines guards were too strong for me , so i ignored them . I captured the second town , collected resouces enough for upgrading Saccubi and hunters also .
2)By Month 1 week 3 i had 13 Up saccubi and 14 Up Hunters . i bought all stuffs at blacksmith . First i killed about 700 zombies on my way by these army . Its quite simple , just gating and using ice to freeze them , they killed me almost nothing .
3)13 Up saccubi and 14 hunters wasnt enough for 80+ earth elements , so i decided to wait 1 more week . Now with 18 Up Sac + 7 PG and 20+ Up hunters i killed them .
4)I captured the Third towns at the end of Week 4 , its not very difficult cause of my high LV hero . Then i took all the mines around , no guards at all .
5)After that was Dragon , of course and espicially triants , total 7 a week . It was  quite easy to kill enemy hero at month 2 week 2 .
6)Month 2 week 3 i attacked the last town . Yes , enemy had Stronger Army , 9 E D while i only had 5 , but my hero's LV was 20+ compared to 2 of the enemy . Its quite close but i won al last .
7)1 More week for army . Then i finished all at Week 4 month 2 . The last game was very very easy , i thought destroying sources of Druid magic would be very difficult but in fact 1 week army was enough for auto-combat , lol .

ok well i took a very different approach to the 3rd mission since i couldn't beat that dumb elven hero in my 4 initial tries.

So, what i did was capture all the mines, you should be able to/don't worry about the troops for now. However, do NOT capture the elven town closest to you. the scenario is designed so that when you capture that town, the druids begin their thing and the elven hero (g something) starts gather his guys. instead, just develop the inferno town and with the help of all those mines, you should be able to gather a nice army soon. focus on capturing all the mines ASAP even the ones defended by mages.

through all this, southern city will develop EXTREMELY slowly so you don't even have to worry about them going at your back. they will never recruit their own hero at the southern city.

Now, when you have a decent amount of troops, go capture the north east town. that's what i did cuz it's weaker and in my opinion dragons are easier than phoenix. then start focusing on that elven town. get a secondary elven hero to store all the elven units or vice versa. capture all elven mines to the north west and pin the hero against the north west city. keep him there while sending reinforcements via other heroes or the spell. you can take as long as you like because the druids will not do a single thing til you capture the southern town. it's important tho that you do NOT kill the druids at this point because cut-scene will not happen til you capture the southern city. you can kill the tree ents tho if you want. then when you think you are ready, capture the southern town which should be pretty easy.

now, the north city should have two heroes. one in the garrison and one at the door step. garrison should have most of the troops. whoever that door guard hero may be, when you defeat him, you'll get a cut-scene as if you had defeated gilarenrwr23r whatever his name is. then you can capture the town or continue pinning them while you kill the druids. either way, you now have 3 cities and all the mines so it's just a matter of time to kill the elves. yes, it may take a bit of time, but at least you'll beat it.

Can you explain me how you did it ?

If you cheated, I agree with you that its easy to win the phoenix battle with 14 hunters (tier 1), 8 succi and lets say 40 cannon fodder.

First the phoenix always have the initiative in the combat.

Second they can travel and kill your cannon fodder in the first turn of the battle.

Third, even with phantom forces in succi or hunters the phoenix can kill them all easly.

Fourth your hero initiative isnt enough to keep your army copied long enough to kill 5 PHOENIX.

So I'll be glad to hear how you did it in the second week of the game... thanks.

I havent cheated and it wasnt too easy.
If you have empty slots in your army, split some inferno units to fill them. Put your succubi in the corner, hunters near them and all others ahead of them. Use gating with all inferno troops and attack phoenixes ONLY with shooters, others should only live as long as possible to prevent phoenixes of blocking your shooters and clones. Make some clones of hunters and then when you run out of free space for new clones, attack injured phoenixes with your hero.

I'm having hard time to beat the fourth level "The Ship". My approach was to conquer the city of the second demon (orange player), build an army and attack through the NW underground exit.

Anyone can give some tips in how to win this level ?

Thanks

The first time I did this campaign I took my sweet time, chose gold over experience from all the chests, and used every nickel I had on recruiting troops, then I'd wait a week and recruit again, etc.  By the time I made it to the dragons in the final battle, there were like 250 of them.  For each week you take, the number of dragons grow, and I took forever.

I redid the scenario and screamed through it as fast as possible without buying any extra troops.  I made it to the dragons in record time and killed em no problem because there weren't many at all.

Making haste is the key on this scenario.

hi, i killed 30 black dragons and get to the last town but their army always stronger than mine, no matter how fast i try, is there any tactic to beat the last town defense ? thx

If you have conquered 3 Sylvan Towns you will be able to out produce the last town.

I parked Agrael outside his town to keep him inside.
Then i recruited sylvan creatures until I outnumbered his.

It takes a LONG time but it is possible.
I just waited until i had more creatures than him.

I then took all my inferno creaturesand usd them to soften him up and then attacked with the sylvan creatures.

It was a pretty easy victory.

Im glad im not the only one that had trouble with inferno mission 3, my tactic was similar to many ive read here.

1. Take the sylvan castle in the first week
2. Take all the mines surrounding (minimal losses) while building up to dragons
3. Near the end of month 2 go and take the top left sylvan castle.

Now here like many others i was attacked by gylian(sp) with near double my army in sylvan troops 9 to my 5 dragons and the like, with him at an equivalent level.

A lot of you ended the mission here but try this tactic and you should be able to take him out in a costly battle.

1. Make sure he attacks you in a a fully developed castle.
2. I blocked the castle gate with 14 treants
3. The treants were attacked by the dragons and unicorns and both were rooted blocking all other access to the castle for most of the fight.
4. Kill the unicorns and dragons down till there are only 2 or 3 left to lessen the damage on the treants
5. Defend the ancient treants who will receive a lot of punishment, every hero turn animate dead on them and i was able to keep them up.
6. Kill off the range then the melle stuck outside starting with the vicious hunters.

It was a pretty awesome battle and i escaped with around 20 hunters and druids, though i was getting pretty worried on how difficult the campaign might become, im nearly halfway through the necromancer one now and thankfully there has been no level like it yet.

I tried dk186's strategy about for the 3rd Inferno mission and it worked a treat.   Except...

I left the Southern town alone and was capturing mines with my Inferno army.   Early in month 2, the Elves from the two Northern towns started coming South, killing the blocking stack of Phoenixes in the West on the way.   Their armies weren't too awful though and I was able to defeat them, including Gilraen.   However, the "Kill Gilraen" mission objective didn't get ticked.

Now I've conquered all the towns and defeated the druids in the circle.   I've had the "The Green player has been defeated" message.   But the game won't end because the "Kill Gilrean" objective is still unticked.

Talking of being ticked off, I'm ticked off.   If Nival are going to force you to play the Campaign missions in order, they might have taken a little care to make sure every possible combination of happenings in a mission is thought of.   This isn't the only post where someone has done something *slightly* out of order and ended up stuck in an unwinnable mission.

At least I know enough to come to this forum.   What happens to the casual gamer who gets into the same position but who doesn't know enough to come here?   His game is ruined.   Shoddy work Nival.

For those that are having problems with the inferno campaign, I'm posting the save of the 5th lvl, and the save file of the 1st lvl of the necro campaign.

Inferno level:

KEY TIPS:

1- Its extremly important that you can pick as much money as you can. You'll need it to upgrade units.

2- When you start the lvl go to the first island in front of you. Use the magical stone to expand your view of the map (you'll need to travel through sea).

3- After that, go to the island where there's a building where you can upgrade your units (mostly you wont beat the map if you dont upgrade your units). That building is protected by unicorns (save before the fight to minimize the loss).

4- After that, go to the island where you have an entrance to a dungeon. Follow the path through the dungeon heading north (protect well your mistress, save often before dificult fights), then south east in the crossroads.

5- When you reach the south east part of the dungeon go up and conquer as you like the buildings that you can hire units. (I conquered them all with my start army, save before fights). From there, build a realtive good army (spending your money and getting more from nearby enemies, islands, etc). Upgrade your units often. There's a island in the map that have pit fiends protected by ents, go get the pit fiends .

6- From here its straight play. Dont fight every enemy you enconter in the later islands, dont be greed. In dungeons explore everything... you'll thanks me (there're good rewards doing that). Fight only necessary monsters to get to your goal (or to recruit units).

7- Make it haste cus the later you reach the elf, more dragons will be waiting for you in the final battle (I've fighted 30 of them).

SAVE FILE:DOWNLOAD

-------------------------------------------------------------

Necro level

This level is easy play it yourself, if you loose the first time, you'll get it the second .

SAVE FILE:DOWNLOAD

Have fun

Well, at last I did find a way through lv3 inferno heroic, and suprisingly it was very easy. So time to share

1.choose PF as bonus. Fight gate without PF and succubi losses, you may take them out of battle if its necessary.

2.Capture southern town asap. then saw mil, gold mine to the left, gem mine. I pass the mines with mages and priest.

3.Try hard to fight neutral monster, if there is PF or succubi losses, load and play again. Dont up Inferno town, only town hall and market, you may need horned demon for archers block, too.

4.end of week 3, i have all sylvan dwelling, but no upgraded one, and did pass through the red gate to collect mercuries, and capture crystal mine. The sulfur and gold mine guarded by priest still not (i didnt want to lose all my creatures)

Till now there is nothing special. I had a hard time fighting neutral monster that the druids creat, many losses. End of week 4, gileran (or wtv his name is) with an army 2 times as mine come to me. His army is all upgraded, 6 emerald dragons, I had 3 greens. I tried to fight him 2 time, all lose. Then I run, direct to where I saw him appeared. And OMFG, he did capture all my mines, but not the town !!

Some bugs, definitely. I comfortably take the north east town (guarded by 100 pixies) with full build, upgrade my army and ... wait. After 2-3 weeks his army is nothing compared with mine (6-12 dragon) and I almost want to hit the auto combat button

I never fought phoenix, or dragon etc. Gileran does it all for me )

Yeah, the inferno cam is a little bit tricky. In lv2 if one choose phantom force and build Agrael up the right way, it is a lot easier in lv 3 than normal. Lucky me, I have phantom, but my skils are quite dull. I dont have Leadership, which is very necessary to mix inferno and sylvan troops in early game, provide Diplomancy to lure some huge sylvan neutral monsters, and is a good combo with gating. (double gating ability, I guess). But I do have Logicstic (Quick gating) and move 1,5 time longer than that Gileran, thats why in the end game I have the pleasure of chasing him everywhere (dont want to kill him yet), that Sylvan bastard

Hm, smt is wrong here. You said you have 13 up succubi AND 14 up hunter in week 3 ??? Where the hell did u get your wood ? I mean, Succubi dwelling require town level 9, means alot of wood. Hunter, lv6 too. And there is only 1 saw mine guard by lots of blood fury. I tried to play most wood-oriented and still dont have enough wood. Do you really play in Heroic ?

U were right , i guess . Last time i was too lucky cause i had enough wood . All my saving files was deleted accidently , so i have to play again from the beginnng , how sad . This time i only have enough for Up Suc but now im more expericence , the second mission i chose Phantom as bonus and the third mission simply do phantom , gate , phantom , gate (its amazing , phantom image can gate ) . Last time it took me 8 weeks but this time 6 weeks only .
