Hey all,

this may be a little late but i didnt start playing Heroes V until recently.

I thought i was an expert at heroes since i have been playing them for ages (except for IV ,...for obvious reasons) but i was having a lot of trouble with scenario 3. i tried building up the inferno castle at first since i thought it would be easy, but that didnt work, i tried building up the inferno and south sylvan town, but that didnt work.

A method finally worked for me, but looking at a few other explanations here i realize that the success in this scenario depends mainly on what the actions of Gilraen are and the luck he has picking up recruits.

FOr me i avoided the sylvan town and built up inferno town as much as i could. this included safely taking town the creatures guarding the orange key tent and getting a grunt hero to pick up the imps, devil, and demons.  When Gilraen or his other strong ally finally comes down south (most likely from the NE, take your hero and first take the South sylvan town (so the green hero will concentrate on taking it back) kill the phoenix' and take the NW castle.  if you are not chased (and even if you are) take the recruits from the NW castle and make your way NE to take the other one (ignore the druids for now).  take that castle and grab the recruits there, then go over to the druids and take them out. when i did this, Gilraen just stayed in the south castle and didnt move. it could have been a bug but he never moved and i was able to get other sylvan creatures to join me and finally i came down and just destroyed him very easily.

Like i said though, this may not always work and it depends largely on what the other heroes are doing.  If the green heroes come down early on and you take the south castle and go NW and they STILL chase you, then just keep taking the nw and ne castles and kill the druids ASAP so no new creatures can come each week.  The only way to beat a big army is to keep attacking its bases and making the creatures it can use less and less available to them...while your army grows, so dont forget to upgrade your inferno castle and getting the imps, demons and devils, just in case you need those creatures.  for my hero, i found that expert luck and logistics were most important, as well as expert gating.

good luck.  just keep experimenting

Well, what's the best strategy here?
I see, i lose my elven units over time,
do i necessarily need a town or can i just go with diplomacy
and try conquer Ewelen?

I dont understand the strategy where people want to finish the map as soon as possible.... I remember playing a guy on heroes 3 multiplayer a few years ago and he told me that i still had "a lot to learn" because i didnt rush him second week to take him out.

Play to enjoy the game and give the comp a chance to become its best so you can find a way to destroy him

On the ship i got some of the elves to join me and then i killed the enemy creatures along the way.  I first took out the sylvan town, and then I took out the inferno town and then hired a hero to pick up all the loose resources i didn't collect along the way.
With a built-up Agrael and good inferno troops you shouldn't have much to worry about from Green.

What i like to do sometimes is before i go out to attack a player i will leave one creature spot open on my powered up hero and i will get a weaker hero to follow me...so that if creatures want to join me, then i can keep them or i can pass them to my weaker hero. It works well usually.  Good luck

Build up the south

finishing fast

Skylord, on some maps, if you don't finish fast, you're bound to lose. For example, in the 3rd inferno map, if you take it slow, build up, etc, you'll be overwhelmed unless you come up with some berserker-type strategy (use frenzy).

Fair enough csarmi.  I just like to not feel like i have skipped a level, haha.

Level 3 of inferno was difficult, but i managed to draw it out as much as possible.  i think i didnt take over the NW castle until the 6th week.  Granted, it is a lot easier sometimes to finish a map quickly, but it is still possible to win if you wait longer, you just have be where the enemy hero is not,

2nd campaign, 2nd Mission, end battle glitch?

Hi guys,

I recently completed the 2nd mission I think it's called The Promise.  Anyway after killing the blue knight infront of the tomb Lord veyer auto attacks and I lost to him yet it still went through with the cut scene and then the next lvl.

I just feel I kinda cheated slightly or maybe it was a glitch as i've not patched.  Has this happened to anyone else?  I tried looking up some walkthroughs and they made no mention of it.

As a person that likes to do things the right way I feel I should go back and do the lvl again but if it's only the first fight with the blue knight that matters then i'm happy to leave it and carry on.  One of the objectives is to keep your hero alive so surely if I failed the final fight then it should have been game over?

That's what i'm thinking so i'll probably re-do it later as it doesn't take long.  But if anyone else happened to do the same then let me know.  I tryed clicking the objectives button but the game doesn't like to show you once the lvl completed message pops up.

@ Swift It's not an error.  That's supposed to happen.  It may be possible to win but I never have.  Even if you lose that fight you win the mission.  The cutscene explains it.

Thanks Phoenix, That puts my mind to rest.  I think I was to busy thinking about the problem to take in what was being said during the cutscene.  All I really noticed at the beginning was that it had suddenly turned into a show down and wondering how could that be if i'm dead lol.  Will get my ears tested asap.

I'm sure it's possible to win as I only just lost, had I maybe had time to collect a couple more units or to upgrade them, anyway thanks again.

I can't remember any teleports on the map! Maybe it was talking about an underground passage. Those you will have on the map. Plenty.

Visit all of the Hut of the Magis you can find! They reveal land and you can land on them with your boat.

Hi all!

At the beginning of mission 5, which bonus do U suggest me to choose? I've heard about the "betrayal" of the elves: elven units are going to leave Agrael day by day. So what if I choose the druids and after a few days they aren't even with me? Do I have to recruit a Sylvan hero and give Agrael's army to him in order to keep my sylvan warriors? PLS help me.

I think you ment mission 4, "The Ship". My suggestion is that you choose the druids. Elven forces will desert Agrael (only him) every day until the end of the map. So, what you need to do is go with Agrael and attack the first sylvan castle. Just follow the road to the east. If you see Master Hunters on the road, attack them (approach them) because they will join you. There are two such groups. After you get to the elven castle and conquer it, as quick as possible go to the inferno castle underground. Just follow the road back west, go underground and take the road east. When you capture it, buy a hero (it is recommended that the hero is elvish, although it can be inferno too), and give him the remaining sylvan forces. Then with your elven hero go back to the castle you first took. It is very important that you do that really quick because the troops that start with Agrael are very good. Too bad he can't keep them.

Mission 3 - heroic difficulty

finnaly managed to win third mission on heroic.

Being a total Heroes V noob - only played Haven campaign before the Inferno i must say i found this mission very challenging . This post will not give you a 100% bulletproof way to beat this mission on heroic. There are to many variables for my current abilities. It did  involved many save/reloads - this map is very unforgiving - not many mistakes you can make . I don't mean to say that there is only one way/ precise order in witch you must do things, only that whatever you do you must minimize losses.

This map(entire inferno campaign - faction) has clearly been designed to be a rush map. Take town buy troops run to the next town before the enemy catches up with you and anihilates you. Kill spawning druids ASAP ! Outmaneuver the powerful but slower enemy heroes. This is not my style ... Especially not on an unknown map. I like a slower pace ...
It took me about three months to kill the druids. However at that time the victory was clear. The victor is decided in the first 4-6 weeks.

After failing this mission a couple of times i went back and redid mission 1&2. "Phantom Forces" is essential for the battles with Gilraen and the other green heroes. Without it i doubt you can beat him and another 2 heroes on week 5-6.

First time i did mission 2 i've chosen the 2000 "dust in the wind" gold. Gold and troops don't matter on mission 1&2 but "Phantom Forces" is a fantastic spell, it allows your hero to skip magic skills altogether and concentrate on more mighty skills.

War machines is probably best used on Demon Lord and easy to get too (ATT & KNOW the Demon Lord's main stats boost ballista damage) ballista will help on all battles(extra help from ammo cart)    , catapult helps a ton with town sieges (duh !), the tent helps with  the pixies. I've got tent&ballista skills only after the main battle with  Gilraen. If you can get them sooner they will help a lot.

Luck - expert luck ASAP. And use the enough luck boosters on the map//castle. You will need to demolish the enemy's Master Hunters and Druids before they can demolish yours. MR combined with the aura of the War Unicorns will give you a decent magic protection or ypu druids and hunters.

Rest of the skills I've got Gating,Attack,Logistics & Defense(swift gating, vitality, resurcefulnes).Resurcefulnes might not seem very hot for a main hero however i found it helpful.
Hellfire will also prove useful especially if you manage to get your hands on a SP boosting artifact.

I've chosen the 2 PittFiends. (the 56 horned daemons look nice too beause o horde building and external ...)

Week1 Day1:

Finally an inferno castle. After two missions of running i could use some rest. Unfortunately the castle is crippled (max 2000 gold income per day // no devils). Build imp upgrate // + 2000k gold building // market place // resurce silo. Much latter will optionally build succubus and rest of the units. Get gold pile near demon external. visit morale//luck boosters. Hire new hero - more imps. Position new hero at imp external and Agrael close enough to the castle but with a head start towards Gilraen.

Week2 Day1: New hero gets imps, upgrates imps & buys imps from castle
and delivers them all to Agrael. Agrael should have now ~130+ familiars the 8 Succuby the 20 hounds and 6 horned daemons. Attack Gilraen(keep the PitFiends out of the fight because Gilraen is likely to target&kill them). Try you best not no lose any succuby and to minimize familiar loses.

You have a week to gather// flag as much as you can. Ore mine, Pixie building , Gold Mine , Gems Mine . Further on that road to the right there is a Crystal mine. Didn't know about that until later in the game . Getting it on week 2 would help tremendously. Backpedal towards the sylvain castle get the lumber mine and the sulfur mine. Attack all creeps around the castle (except the druids guarding wood).

~Week3 Day1,2: The new guy should get on his wy delivering you a fresh wave of familiars. Kill the priests guarding the second gold mine(expect heavy losses) and capture the sylvain castle. From now on build a structure a day towards the capitol then (market place, resource silo//pond..) then focus on the creature dwellings. After you capture the town get back on the horse (wait for the new familiars) -> there are some peasant huts on the right(extra cash), mill to the north (perhaps worth stationing a new hero there).

Week 4+ : Gilraen and other green heroes will come. Don't waste a penny on the inferno town yet. Make sure you have enough money to purchase all creatures and maybe have some of them upgraded also. He'll have more troops (almost 2 to 1) however you'll be inside the castle walls. Be sure to have max luck, use "Phantom Forces" on the hunters. If you manged to get a morale artie + booster you can mix the remaining inferno troops. Dismiss // send away the inferno troops if the morale is a problem. There will be 3-5 heroes including Gilraen. Reload if you lose hunters//druids. Try also to keep most of the dragons alive. Between enemy raids recapture lost mines and level up on the sylvain troops provided for this purpose for you by the druids on the beginning of each week. The red border tent unlocks a +1000 gold artifact (NE of the first silvain castle)

When you fell strong enough (you now have enough resources gold to bring up the inferno castle as well - unnecessary ) fallow the left road .. kill earth elements ... take western green town ... kill druids in center of map ... explore map - visit stat booster buildings. Nothing left to do but capture the NE - third sylvain town and end the mission. Congratulations !

I must be really terrible at this game. When I tried the campaign I got stuck on "The Ship" on the easiest level. Any good walkthroughs anywhere, beyond the one I can see just above? (I don't have Phantom Forces, maybe that's the problem... and I don't want to redo the first however many just to get the spell either .)

The mission difficulty depends mostly on skills and perks you have. In campains it's always good to focus on magic. The reason is that spells carry forward to next mission, creatures don't.

I really think they should tell you that. It's kinda like making sure you use all primary skill increasers on the map, except not so obvious that the bonus is permanent. After all you don't keep artifacts. Or do they already say, and I missed it?
