ok is it just me or is level 5 a joke? it was a piece of cake and about 5837598357 times easier than level 3 and 4. I passed the whole thing without losing 1 unit. i find it stupid that level 3 and 4 were so much easier...if anything each level should get slightly harder...it doesnt make sense...lets hope the necro campaing is better

I think this bug occurs if you defeat Gilraen before capturing southernmost Sylvan town. It happened to me once. You gotta restart the mission

Quote: I have finally figured out how to beat the third mission on heroic (and have done so consecutive multiple times to test how it works). It does require the occasional bit of saving and replaying the occasional battle, but once the techniques are worked out (or if you are an expert who doesn't make any tactical mistakes) then this will work for you. Everything major needs to be done in the first six weeks. Then you can play around getting to level 24 and continuing on to the next mission.
By day 12 - Capture the NW town.
ON day 29 - Capture the South town.
By day 36 - Kill Gillean.
By day 43 - Defeat the Druids.
The key to accomplishing all of this is of course based on what happened in the first two boards in selecting skills and what bonuses are selected for missions 2 and 3.
The most important piece of all this is: You must have Summoning Magic by the end of Mission 1. You must have Fire Warriors by the end of Mission 2 (and of course the most obvious thing that everyone has said - PICK PHANTOM FORCES as your bonus on the 2nd mission).
All other skills are your choice. (Although I would recommend getting swift gating (logistics/pathfinding/gating) as well. I also had attack and defense before starting Mission 3.
As mission three starts, everyone seems to think "get the pit lords, get the pit lords" Do not bother with the pit lords. Early damage is not going to be the key to winning this board. Initiative and speed are. So choose the 4 nightmares.
In your first two turns, you should build a tavern and get a second hero. The second hero will grab the 15 demons available to the south of your city. (He will be able to make it back to hand them to Aeriel who will have purchased the 16 imps from the city, hit the imp crucible for 16 free imps, and then hit the morale boosting flag and be ready for assault Gilraen on the next turn.
Key thing to do before the battle - Split your familiars in two groups of 25. When you start the battle, only use 16 imps, 25 familiars and 15 demons. Don't use anything else. Have them gate to the druids/hunters as you can. Summon fire elementals. (You should be able to summon at least 10-11 of them... if you can't then you really got hurt in your spell power.) As time allows, phantom them. You will probably finish the battle with only a few imps or demons left, but you still have all your hell hounds, secubusses and nightmares and 25 familiars (who you should consider splitting into groups again to perform similar tactics).
The next thing most posts tell you to do is collect the mines around the southern city. DON'T BOTHER. (Although I found it very useful to at least get the ore mine which is easy to steal - I would have gotten the wood also, but I don't like assassins.) I also recommend building up the inferno to the next income level (town?) as soon as you can. The extra income will help buy creatures and building in the NW town. Also, keep pulling imps and demons with your second hero.
Over your next few turns, you are going to have a few minor battles - DO NOT capture the south city. However, follow the road to the east (right) of the city north. We are going to fight two battles along this road, the horde of hunters and the swarm (450 zombies) one is tough, the other is a piece of cake. The hunters is the tougher of the two. Create some fodder (like you did for the first battle with Gilraen.) Again, don't use nightmares or sucubusses (and if you think you can handle it, save the hell hounds too). Again, gate next to the hunters, summon fire elementals and phantom them. After the battle fill up with the magic well to the right of the zombies.
Now for the easy battle. The only thing you need to use is a single nightmare (or use the four in one stack) - won't matter much. It will help if there is some debree on the battlefield as it will slow the zombies down some, but before they hit you, there should be at least 4-5 stacks of fire elementals who would have already taken down 1-2 of the 4 stacks of the zombies. So, what is the nightmare supposed to do? RUN. Avoid all attacks (unless a zombie stack gets down to a few where if it attacks it could risk loosing a phantom stack - just make sure you have enough intiative on the waitlist to run away before one of the full stacks knocks you down.) You will probably have only the original stack and perhaps a phantom stack left at the end of the battle and be drained of mana, so fill up at the well on the beginning of the next turn (or this turn if you haven't already) and continue up the road to the west.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to get the frenzy scroll, so keep going until you get to the earth elementals. Again, repeat the same process. Save some mana if you can, you will need it in the next couple of turns. Not going to go through the battle strategy again, especially since this battle is a piece of cake.
Continue to head north and kill any hero you see that has a low creature count. The green AI will have about 4-6 out there easily. When you can, attack the castle. Again, this is a very easy battle and you should have this task completed before the end of the 12th day. (I had 4 nightmares and 7 succubus and 15 hell hounds left after the battle for the town was over.) As soon as the city is captured, build a mage tower and then druid stones. As time allows get treants, a capital, a citadel and a castle ASAP (in that order). If you have expert logistics, you should be able to make it back to the building that produces high level sylan creatures. Take control of that and buy the treants there. Wait until day 15, and buy the 2 additional treants. Go back and buy out all creatures in town. Start collecting some of the mines in the area.
This next week is a building, scouting and experience phase. Head to the NE city but don't go further then you need to. You aren't going to be able to capture the castle as it has dragons. Kill extra heroes that don't need to be scouting the map. If a weak one gets through and starts heading south, catch up to him with your level 1 hero and smite him with hordes of imps and demons. When you get to day 22, buy out the city again (by this point, I had disbanded all my inferno creatures in the NW town - morale penalties aren't worth it), but leave the creatures there to defend in case of a rogue hero. Also, buy the additional treants again. Agriel should head south by day 25 and then easily capture the city on day 29.
Buy out the south city of creatures. Now, GET NORTH FAST! Gilraen will have his army and will also successfully get the Frenzy scroll. This is an ok thing. You should make it back to the NW city and hold out there. He will follow you somewhat... if you can hold to day 36, buy out the city again, and also upgrade to ancient treants. Then, go after Gilraen!
This battle will be tough... but again, you can beat him. (It is easier if you don't have Hellfire/Hellwrath abilities as they drain your summoning mana, but I had it and got by.) Gilraen likes frenzing your Treants... which works great - just keep your creatures away from your treats and his creatures will go down quickly. I usually wound up with 10-16 treats after the battle with him. (Everything else was desimated.) However, this is now enough to get back to the NW town. Wait around until day 43, get a new horder of creatures and go after the druids.
If you haven't moved your second hero to the south town yet, do that. He can be a transporter in the future. (Once the druids are dead build up agriel's army.) Defend your towns. (Green shouldn't move for a while.) As your army gets larger, clear the path to your southern town and get additional reinforcements. Get Agriel to level 24 and then attack the NE town which will go down easily. (Two towns to one.)
That's how easy it is. Keep in mind though that it took me 6 months to accomplish this idea! Let me know if this works for you. (I also had to reply mission one about 6 times to get summoning magic, so try not to get frusturated!)
i see you sure have a good explanation
do you need a good army for it? to capture the tows at such short notice and to kill gilraen and the druids?
How can u split creatures??

I have finally beat the third mission on normal level.
My steps to beat mission 3 :
1. Build Blacksmith and buy Ballista and First Aid. In Mission 2, Agrael reach level Ballista extra shot and Expert War Machines and Phantom Forces.
2. Kill Gilraen on the gates.
3. Capture the first Sylvan town (NorthWest) and hire heroes for collecting resources and Sylvan troops.
4. Go to the south and capture mines (esp gold). Then go back to the north through NW town and get Red Keymater (kill ent).
5. Defeat the Hunters and open Red Gate and get artifact and sources.
6. Go to second Sylvan town (South) through Arena and kill Earth Elemental. Kill Sylvan heroes and capture second Sylvan Town.
7. Get gold mines and changes troops from infernos to Sylvan.
8. Go to north, change direction to south first to get Blue KeyMaster.
8. Turn back and swap the ents and druids.
9. Go back to Arena and refill the troops from both Sylvan town. Remember to fill hunters and druids.
10. Get Frenzy Scroll. Get Orange KeyMaster. I send my demon heroes with inferno troops to open Orange Border and capture Military Post after several weeks.
11. Then Gilraen comes from North town and kill emerald dragon which block my way to north city.
12. I go directly to Gilraen and kill him using Frenzy and Phantom. He was tough and I loose a lot of troops. Beware of hunter and druids.
13. Swap some resources and refill troops then kill Death Knights for artifact.
14. Go to Blue Gate and defeat Emerald Dragon.
15. Capture North city. I'am very suprised this city is guarded by some weakest dark creatures like Skeleton and Zombies. Very easy to defeat.
My conclusion :
1. Use Agrael on every battle and for upgrade level.
2. Upgrade town and build creatures esp range attack
3. Hire heroes for collecting resources and capture mines (after the guard defeat by Agrael). Logistic is usefull. Buy creatures and sent them to refill Agrael troops.
My confusion :
1. After get 3 Keymaster, I just get resources and artifact.
2. The Sylvan city is not guarded well.

many say one should capture the NW town first to abuse the bug.
however, if you are INDEED good at tactics, there is really no need for.
heroic:
what skills you take in mission 1 & 2 is almost unimportant. you always have attack and logistics (i hope you have!!). i for my part decided to go for urgash's call (i.e. dark magic and luck) and leadership (to combine high initiative boost with mass haste, mass slow - how i like nightmares with ini 25 against ini 5 opponents... ^^). biggest help is to get mass slow during missions 1 & 2, but you don't need it (i did not have mass slow :-( i really had NO effective spell except phantom phorces; and mark of the damned often lead to crashes (i hate buggy games ...)).
what however is something i would not like to miss is the logistics special 'fast gating' (i do not know the name in english...)
so what i want to say: it is all about tactics. without slow and mass slow, without mass haste, without any good damage spell (i had lightning bolt and eldritch arrow ... yeeha!), without summoning spells except the free phantom forces it is still possible to do it.
my way on heroic was the following:
- choose the pit lords as bonus. nothing else. you will need their casting power as well as their incredibly high HP.
- in the first town build tavern and buy a hero. an inferno hero. if there are two, choose the one with the better/more troops and war machines. if you want an easier way: restart until you get deleb. however, you won't need her. buy all troops in town and give them to your hero. with your second hero run south and get the neutral buyable creeps, with agrael fetch the free imps in the east.
- run towards gilraen. it is ABSOLUTELY important to keep your pit lords out of battle!! gilraen will kill them. save before battle. try the battle with succubi, when you do it right, you will loose no succubi at all. only cannon fodder: some imps will die, there is no way to stop that. however, try to have your losses as low as possible you could need every single imp.
- you will be a bit spare on money. i did not do it by myself, but i would advise you (despite what others say) to build up inferno. exactly one week. because at day 1 of week 2 it could be a great thing to get fresh inferno troops. sylvan troops are a bad choice to have before week three. well, i did not do it by myself but i would advise you to build money buildings and creature buildings. but stop it on week 2 day 1 and start concentrating on your sylvan town.
- after defeating gilraen, defeat all creatures on the road. let your second hero pick up the goodies. you should not loose more than a very few imps, if you lost more than 10 then your tactics need great improvements ... i doubt you will be able to do it my way in that case.
- directly head for the sylvan town in the south. capture. you should not loose a single creature here. for some extra money go east, capture gold mine. here, use all your troops wisely! you can kill all priests with low losses. they should get only their shots in the beginning, after that your gated forces should do the rest. if you have mark of the damned they should fall quickly, otherwise use your spellpower.
- if you want, kill the cerberi, however they are a great threat to your troops due to their high ini. get +1 attack and head back to the sylvan town.
- go to the left of sylvan town and upwards. defeating the treants without losses is stupidly easy. get spellpower in the corner.
- let your second hero head back to the first town - he will be part of an army chain.
- if you want, free the gem mine. this battle is also a bit tougher, you will loose some troops, however if you do it right this is negligible. go on and free mercury and the +1 defense tower. do not go against the assassins that protect the health ring!
- now do NOT face the phoenix! since you can copy only one stack with phnatom forces i doubt you will be able to defeat them, except you have specialized in destructive spells or summoning (elements). rather go back a step and leave the road where unicorns protect an exp shrine.
- kill the unicorns (easy) to get xp.
- you should have reached the end of week one now.
- day 1 week 2. buy a new hero (i hope you saved all the money you found!!) and all inferno troops in town. run towards your second hero waiting for the troops. let your second hero transport those fresh troops to your main hero waiting in front of the magicians.
if after all your fights you still have enough troops left to kill the magicians without big losses - then of course you do not need to wait for backup troops. when i reached the magicians i still had my pitlords, 6-7 succubi, ~20 demons and ~40 imps. if you start battle with all troops, magicians will kill almost everything you have.
if you wait for backup then you will loose a big amount of imps but no important troops.
as i said before, i did not build up inferno, i built up sylvan. so i only had a little bit of inferno backup: imps imps imps. my third hero gave these new troops to my second one coming from sylvan town with some pixies and blade dancers. i decided to use them as cannon fodder.
in my case i gave all important troops that should survive the battle against the mages to the hero coming with backup. i had 5 stacks of imps, one small one (consisting of 2 imps) and 4 bigger ones, i think each being 6 imps. why? to have for all of these 3 imps gated. tha last creatures to be attacked are the 2 imps. okay, not true, two imps called one imp as blocker and well, that imp was sacrificed for mark of damned activation ^^. so gate like hell and block the mages. they have to cast now. as a tip, gate BETWEEN them, not in front of them. give them no opportunity to defeat 2 stacks with one shot. the blade dancers should survive 4-5 attacks, that's a lot of time you get to kill the mages with spells or direct attacks.
the battle against the mages will be the hardest one. promised. okay, mayne except gilraen, but here it is necessery to keep important troops alive and sacrifice only fodder.
- after the mages have been defeated, get spellpower if you want, however maidens are really tough. go to arena and choose attack (agrael and raelag should always only choose attack; with high ini advantages, attack is incredibly better than defense).
- now head to the west. there is another big stack of creatures, the earth elementals. but though they are in big numbers, they are no problem for many gated creatures and a directly attacking hero. your losses should be minimal. do NOT face the water elementals for upgrades!
- go ahead and capture the NW town during week 2. some enemy heroes might be around with respectable army but if you stay in town you are invincible. NOW you have big advantages: 3 cities. your inferno army should now be quite small. in my game i had only the 2 pit lords left, everything else was dead. switch to sylvan troops now. what troops? pixies, hunters, druids, unicorns and treants. if you want, go for dragons, however they cost a lot of money and are no big use against gilraen.
- from now on there is not much to say: you have 2 gold mines, 3 cities whereas one does not need any more support (inferno). that is 10k gold per day for 2 cities. build up while your hero goes wandering around. go killing the druids with your new troops from the NW sylvan town. you can do it in week 3, but week 4 or even week 5 should be ok, too.
- now concentrate on conquering mines and useful artifacts. the fight against gilraen is much easier than you might expect. that's it.
the first 2 weeks will be hard, because you have to defeat many priests and hell lot of magicians - with your starting troops only!
try to get every battle you get for xp. every level up helps during these 2 weeks. however, keep your losses low: do face no casters if possible and treat shooters with care. melee is only a problem if they are fast with high ini (maidens, grim raiders, cerberi).
some tips for tactics:
- if you face a small army, only fight with pit lords. until 25 assassins kill one pit lords they are all dead long before that. if you face strong melee as earth elementals: gate everything in your army first. confuse elementals and lure them to the corners to get your hero extra shots. if really necessary start with some 3-imp stacks in the beginning - sacrificing 3 imps is not such a big loss.
gating and luring - that is what you should do.
with phantom forces either copy succubi or big stacks of yours. you won't need PF very often i hope.
- i am good in tactics, but i often saved before a battle. and often reloaded. especially the mages took me a long time to defeat. but i did it. lost 24 imps, 40 pixies and ~20 blade dancers. that is really okay against 44(?) mages. i fought also cerberi, maidens and grim raiders, for them i needed also some reloads.
and, it is a pity, i had to reload very often because mark of the damned with weakening strike caused a crash almost always when i forced an activation by retaliation. some foughts would have been much easier without that bug ... :-/
good luck ^^
and: if you mastered this map, you are the king. it is the hardest campaign mission i know. stop playing heroic afterwards, make yourself an esy life ^^ :-)

Quote: This thread is for postings questions, tips and walkthroughs for the Heroes 5 Inferno Campaign.
Hello, I'd like to post my walkthroughs for individual scenarios of the campaign but I'm afraid that if I don't start a new thread with each one, they will simply get lost in the general thread. I'm intentionally playing at normal difficulty so they can help a larger public, and they're intended for new players although experienced players would probably find some interesting tidbits.
Each strategy is somewhat big and is written in the format I used for all my Heroes 2 and Heroes 3 (including expansions) strategies for the Astral Wizard website and available now in certain faqs at http://www.gamefaqs.com
My question to the moderators and the community here would be: is it ok to start a new threads such as "Qd's strategy on Inferno campaign mission 1", "QD's strategy on Inferno campaign mission 2", etc or will I get flamed for not following protocol? I'd like some feeback on my strategies, it would make writing them more motivating.

2nd mission
Sorry if the solutions for the second Demon mission of Cultist campaign exists. but...
when i was playing (and trying to reach the Mausoleum), the nasty things happen.... when i'm at a few paces away from Stefan (?), he charges me with his lackeys (... he's tough), but the worse is...
Veyer!
the nasty "loyalist" demon warlord who were assigned by the Sovereign to sieze an artifact (that Agrael needs in order to successfully stage a Coup d'Etat)....
He warped straight behind stefan just like the two foes are in the same league, joining a duel cue. and after i finished stefan off.... Veyer came in play!!! ..... even i spend least casaulties along the way as i can do. (and recruiting hell mobs to aid my fight) it still tough for me it seems he doesn't lose any guy along the way to the mausoleum... therefore he has more men than what i have and ...i think Veyer himself is more powerful than Agrael
ANYONE who got through both please tell me how to get through this mission WITHOUT applying cheatcodes.
1. will i automatically lose this mission of Veyer got there first
2. which one of three starting bonus should i take?... (for me... a Succubi squad (8 gals)) seems to be the most useful. as shooting gals are more useful than a clone spell. or did other bonus better?)
3. at the second hellish recruit station. i can employ hell horse thingy, Pit Fiend, and .. the toughest of all infernal creatures.. Devils, beside the devils, which one is better choice (i have limited budget in hand! during that mission) between Pit Fiend or Nightmare/HellCharger?
please tell me ... gimme solutions to win this mission while playing NORMAL difficulty....

I just killed the masoleum guard (maybe Stefan) and then come Veyer through portal or Distant Travel spell and them defeat me.
But after that I have a scene that Agrael get the Heart of The Griffin and suddenly my mission is completed.
It was very strange for me but it was. Now I am playing Necropolis.

i think if veyer defeat player. it means...

but...
you claimed that if he wins that combat. the story goes on
(simply i've just restarted a machine when things got worse)
anyone had any solid claims on that? that agrael's fight against veyer is scheduled to be defeated (that was just like japanese console Turnbased strategy on consoles where it's "event")

go subterrainian and defeat orange player. then build inferno creatures, especially the pit fiend. forget trying to develope undergroud, as soon as you get 15 to 20 pit fiends begin going back to groud level and taking some mines and gold here and there. your toughest challenge will be in the beginning when you go underground you will get about three visits from green player. if you can defeat each attach, he will give up. then you will have to go above groud and develope lower half of the map and gather as many emerald dragons and other sylvan creatures as possible. you will need to recruit from all your towns in order to get enough to defeat the last standing green player
