Some map features, rivers for example, require that you first select the tool that made the feature before you can use the erase tool that is found on the tool set.

Thanks, Vlaad and rdeford. I figured out how to select things. Unfortunately, I'm still having some problems. Whenever I load my map (which is just a little experimental one), the game dumps me back to Windows. I did the checklist function, and there are numerous issues of "object and craig intersection."
My understanding is that this occurs when scenery and ground don't perfectly match up. Would such a problem be enough to cause the game to crash? There aren't any other problems, as far as I can tell. Thanks again.

As far as I remember, no. (The only thing that used to freeze my editor - but not crash to desktop - was when I left the passability check ON, and tried to load my XXXL map again. I had to open a tiny scenario first, turn the option OFF, then load my map.)

The editor's map check command does not give meaningful results. The object and craig intersection errors will not cause any problems when the map is played. You can fool around and get rid of some of them, but never all.
The only time one of my maps crashed to Windows was when I placed a starting hero right next to the outer edge of the map itself. I moved the hero one square inward and the map stopped crashing. I would suggest looking for things such as this.
If all else fails, start over again with a blank map and reconstruct your previous map. Test it every few steps as you add objects to the map and shape the landscape. You will soon see when it begins to crash. That way you will learn what the problem is.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. It crashes when I try to play the map, not when I load it on the map editor. Any idea what might be causing this?

Never mind, it seems to be working. I pretty much redid the map from scratch. I do have another question; how do you set the camera in a custom map? When playing the map, I find myself very limited in my camera movements. Nor is there any sky.
Sorry if this questions's already been asked. Searching for camera on the forum brings up a lot of things unrelated to my question, so I'm not sure exactly where to look.

There are script commands that will move the camera around and set the angle of view, but they are programmed by the map maker and triggered by player actions during game play. Basically, they are for creating a special situation during the play of the map, not to set up the camera for general game play. Writing a bug-free, effective script to create custom situations and custom game play is a BIG subject and so complex that I advise against it unless you have a computer programming background.
But back to your question, as far as I know, during the general play of a map, the player sets the camera view using the game's controls. Read the game documentation to learn how to use the controls. I no longer have H5 installed on my machine, so I cannot go take a look in order to give you a specific answer.

Yes, I realized that. My answer should have made it clear that placing a starting hero on the outermost square of the map in the editor caused the map to crash when I opened the map with the game to test it. I believe that this particular bug was fixed with one of the patches, but my point is that it is likely still possible to do things in the editor that will cause the map to crash in the game. The remedy is to test frequently as you make your maps so you can find out what to avoid. With H5, experience is indeed the best teacher.

I created some maps for HeroesV but there is one thing I'm not able to do: dig huge holes/abyss in the underground, like in the Abyss arena (Duel mode). Anyone knows? Thanks in advance.

i got 2 questions:
How the hell can you edit coordinates of an object like z=-4 and rotate them for like 45°?
How can you edit moon weeks avalible in a map?
Someone please answer.
EDIT: And how to create multiple creature(armies) which you fight like normal ones?

First one is simple, in the Properties Panel (the box at the bottom on the left side) there is an option called 'Rot', that means Rotation. When you change it from 0 to 0.5, it is rotated in a 45° angle.
Above 'Rot' you can change the z value of the object.
second I don't know, never cared for weeks, but the third one you can find here:

I've never found a way to dig holes underground and I don't believe it is possible. Instead, I use the crater objects in the Lava Objects set. I assume that's how the folks who created the custom maps for the game did it. I suppose that it is possible that there is a different object set for the arena that I've never seen. Maybe you should try opening one of those maps with the editor and copy-paste the huge holes into your maps.

I'm sorry Zenithale, now I know what you wanna do.
The abyss in the Abyss arena (how funny) has nothing to do with digging holes, they are objects. I don't know why, but Nival disabled them for ToE. To get them back, go to the Subterra objects and search for Zaglushka, the last object in the list.
Then you click Zaglushka red, click in the Properties Panel next to Shared on the three ... and you are in the folder AdvMapStaticShared. Hope you can follow me.
There you search in the same folder Zaglushka is in (Dungeonwalls) for the following Objects:
WallCornerDown_01.(AdvMapStaticShared)
WallDown_01.(AdvMapStaticShared)
WallDown_02.(AdvMapStaticShared)
WallDown_03.(AdvMapStaticShared)
WallDown_04.(AdvMapStaticShared)
WallInnerDown_01.(AdvMapStaticShared)
They are all above Zaglushka and they are all you need to build an arena like Abyss.
Hope that helps

Campaign heroes
Hallo,
I played a self made map with campaign heroes, but when I retreat in battle I can't recruit them again in the tavern. Can something be done about that?

I don't know to go about changing the current moon week during the course of play. However, assuming you are working with TOTE, the script function:
GetCurrentMoonWeek()
Returns the ID number of the current in-game week type. The constants corresponding to the various week types are described in the appendix
HOMM5_A2_IDs_for_Scripts.pdf For example, WEEK_OF_DRAGONFLY = 5.
You can use this constant in your own script functions to both time and coordinate the scripted events that the player experiences as he or she plays your map.
NOTE: None of the H5 versions prior to TOTE have the GetCurrentMoonWeek() function.
