Just a small note.
While playing H5, I noticed that during the weeks of wyrms, the message goes "The week when the population of wyrms used to double before they are extinct". So in the world of H5 (somehow), wyrms belong to an extinct species. I'm not sure if you'd revive it somehow?

Damn it, why couldn't they just put dodos instead of wyrms?!
This isn't the first time something like that happens, we'll just try to convince Nival to change that.
I still support the funny weeks, though. My favourite: "The week when Hamster and Berserk Battle Hamster population doubles"
Back to topic
I'd avoid the guard thing if possible, cause we have Vanguards in our Stronghold. Some people would get confused.
I think nagas should have 6 arms, to stand out from the Rakshasas
Quote: My stronghold creatures all made it except for the giant elephants... goblin, orc, wolf rider, shaman, wyvern, troll. How can you call it crappy?
Yeah but some were stolen from Alcibiades and very little of their abilities were accepted. Never mind
I wanted to avoid the basilisks cause there are already units who ride lizards (grim raiders) so I thought having turtles is cooler. They would have quite a low speed though
How about voting on this one? It worked for the behemoths
Quote: D) (not underlined)
Remember- NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS AN UPGRADE
If you please, take a look at the fine example of HOMM2
Well yeah but this is heroes V - everything got an upgrade. I mean, HV follows the even finer example of heroes III. Heroes IV was so radical that it didn't even have upgrades and it was crap, I played minesweeper more than it.

I resent that comment. It is impossible I stole anything from Alcibiades because his pictures don't load on my computer. Besides, the Wolf Rider, Wyvern and Troll remained largely unchanged. So did the berserker until Nival used it for their own dwarves and it had to be changed to vanguard. Even the shaman was changed by me at the last minute. So how can you say the abilities I suggested didnt make it?
I still don't like the giant tortoise idea. Basilisks are cool. You don't have to make them look like the lizards from the dungeon. Anyways we should put it to a vote. So its Basilisk 1 Tortoise 1 right now.
Alright lets remove death roll and put sidestep for the Sentinel. I like your swamp wyrm idea with all the dirty moss hanging from it. Ritual sacrifice would be good if you wanted to make the nagas evil, which i have no problems with. I think they should be more uncaring than evil as in they see no qualms about enslaving the lizardmen and killing their own for use in their dark magic arts.

I knew we can count on you, WarOverlord
EDIT:
Hokay, while we’re waiting for people to vote on basilisks/turtles how about doing something constructive, thinking of the racial ability for example?
I was thinking something like this:
Missionary: Enemy units have a 10% chance to skip a turn.
Basic – enemy lvl 1 and 2 units
Advanced – enemy lvl 3 and 4 units
Expert – enemy lvl 5 and 6 units
Ultimate – enemy lvl 7 units
You’ll perhaps wonder “What do missionaries have to do with naga? Baklava has finally lost it” but I kinda constructed a basic story for the naga:
They were chilling in big cool temples near water worshipping stuff and blah blah blah and then something f*cked up their homeland (possibly some cataclysm), which made them run away from there to the largely uncivilized swamps of Blahblahblah, west/east/north/south of something. There they met the lizardmen who ran away from the wizards and started living in nomadic tribes. The naga, proud and intelligent as they are, quickly made alliances with the lizard tribes (and converting them by missionaries) and started taming animals around them. Building new temples there in memory of their ancient homeland, they vow to rebuild their lost civilization and live happily ever after. That would also explain what are the clean creatures as naga doing in a muddy swamp.
Now, to make things spicier, we can replace the cataclysm with someone/something evil to which the nagas could swear revenge upon and go kick its ass throughout the campaign (another faction, perhaps?)
Your choice.

Yikes, everyone's been busy recently ! I've finally finished reading through 6 pages. At risk of reigniting the arguments, personally I think that although it is important to have community input, ultimately unless we put every single little thing to vote there has to be a small group `in charge`, collaborating ideas and generating something that has a bit of everyone in it.
Anyway, a few brief comments, points etc:
Co(u)atl
Wyrm - as someone pointed out they're extinct...
Mayan architecture
Possible names that could be used - Nyad, Undine, Nymph, Neried, Muse, Siren, Prophet (some of these come from other people)
Could someone show me the DMoMM naga (if it exists)?
I think as the number of towns grows you need something that makes it play differently - a new `strategy` if you will - but this can be hard to think of and probably comes later (?)
Sanctuary is my favourite name, if we keep Wyrm and force that name out could be change the map object to refuge and use Sanctuary?
One idea for racial ability / skill is, since they are neutral, to not suffer penalties from varied faction armies
Leviathan
Some inspiration pics:
(Sorry if I've duplicated an earlier point or whatever, I haven't read the conversation that thoroughly)

Sanctuaries, although not much important, were in Heroes since the beginning and I don't think their name should be changed. What's wrong with Bastion as a town name?
Quote: One idea for racial ability / skill is, since they are neutral, to not suffer penalties from varied faction armies
Wouldn't that be sort of useless in duel mode?
We can make a creature like siren, upg nymph, but what level would it be? We'd also have to change the terrain a little, from swamps to coastal jungles, but that would be similar to the Sylvan town...

The way things are going, I'll be able to join this project again on saturday. Also put my vote down for Basilisk, I realy don't see the point in riding turtles. Another thing, a croc can do a deathroll just as well on dry land, but he can't do a continuous deathroll.

I can't remember where I saw the call spirits ability but it was DEFINATELY not in those pictures. They dont appear on my computer for some reason. But yeah lets just drop it. The stronghold is already finished.
Quote: Hmmm... I wouldnt call it *perfect*.
Oh, Im sooooo EVIL!
I'm still waiting for your so called lineup of creatures for both the stronghold and nagas....
I like your missionary storyline about the nagas but as for the missionary skill, i would wait and see what other ppl have to offer before agreeing with you. I think it was action jack that mentioned something about sacrificing. The concept is good.
Quote: Possible names that could be used - Nyad, Undine, Nymph, Neried, Muse, Siren, Prophet (some of these come from other people)
While all these names are good they are all basically water nymphs and not really compatible with the snake like naga. I like sanctuary as well but it is a building on the map, so yeah... the closest name is refuge. I still prefer the name swamp wyrm/dragon over leviathan. Bastion is more like a place like Minas Tirith... the last bastion of men against the forces of darkness.
I'm with you War-Overlord on both basilisks and the deathroll.

So you're copying off Alcibiades? How can you say then that it is your own vision? Anyways, moving on, here's a tentative list of creatures and their abilities built upon the suggestions of ppl from this post with a few of mine thrown in to the mix:
LEVEL 1:
Serpent Fly: Those pesky third level fliers from the Fortress in HoMM3.
Abilities: Flyer, Toxic Saliva (Needs a name change but what it does is it slows down enemy creatures, ie decreases its iniative. The original name was weakening bite but it sounds too much like the plague zombies ability)
LEVEL 1 UPGRADE:
Cuoatl/Coatl: I don't care much which name is picked. But yeah it is the divine flying snake of aztec mythology.
Abilities: + Consume (Activated. Allows the coatl to steal any enchantment from enemy creatures and transfers it to itself. This is why i choose the name coatl over dragon fly, due to this magical ability. Must be able to reach the creature in order to activate this ability, like lay of hands)
LEVEL 2:
Lizardman Tracker: Alt. names are trapper, huntsman. Your basic lizardman shooter unit armerd with either a blowpipe or spear. If you are going with the spear i would suggest they have like a masai appearance with the long tribal shield and tribal marks.
Abilities: Shooter, Corrosive Bolt (decrease defense with each hit), precise shot (like the marksmen)
LEVEL 2 UPGRADE:
Chameleon Tracker: This lizardman can change the color of its skin. Visually you can see it melt away from green to brown OR it changes depending on what environment you're in, dark red in Inferno, green in sylvan lands, sand brown in academy lands.
Abilities: + Camouflage (like I've explained before)
LEVEL 3:
Viper Zealot: Your standard Naga infantry. Armed with a mace and shield.
Abilities: First Strike (Retaliates before enemy attacks)
LEVEL 3 UPGRADE:
Cobra Zealot: Different from viper. Has a hood. Has a halberd.
Abilities: + Long weapon (Longer reach allows the cobra zealot to hit enemies 2 squares away), + Zeal (like spirit link where the necromancer gains mana with damage done to the affected creature, the cobra gets an initiave bonus for that round depending on the amount of damage it does. say they do 50 damage this round, they get +1 bonus next round. if they do 150 damage, they get +3 bonus. dont know if you want them to have a ceiling of how much bonus they can get)
LEVEL 4:
Sentinel: Lizard on a croc.
Abilties: Enraged, Death Roll (Like War-Overlord suggested, has a chance of not taking damage by rolling to the squares adjacent to it)
LEVEL 4 UPGRADE:
Grand Sentinel: Lizard on a basilisk
Abilities: + Petrifying Gaze (Activated. Turns stack into stone. that stack cannot attack for X turn depending on number of grand sentinels present. stoned stack gains +10 defense bonus due to the thickening of its skin. attacking stone stack doesnt dispel this ability. can only be activated on one stack at a time. Don't know if you want to limit the number of times you can use this ability on the field)
LEVEL 5:
Templar: Large Naga with 4 arms and swords.
Abilities: No Retaliation
LEVEL 5 UPGRADE:
Praetorian: Large Naga with 6 arms.
Abilities: + Meditate (Loses turn, gains bonus to offense and defense for subsequent turns)
LEVEL 6:
Priestess: Naga spell caster with snake for hair.
Abilities: Shooter, Caster, Divine Presence (+1 morale to all friendly creatures)
LEVEL 6 UPGRADE:
High Priestess: Even more powerful naga priestess.
Abilities: + Wrath (activated on friendly stack. if friendly stack attacked, the attacker will be hit with a random destructive spell. Only can be used 3 times)
LEVEL 7:
Swamp Wyrm: Bigger Harry Potter like basilisk creature. body of a snake, head and tail of a dragon. spines running down its back and covered with vines and moss and all that swamp stuff.
Abilities: Slither (Able to move through obstacles and creatures, demolishing obstacles and damaging all creatures it passes)
LEVEL 7:
Swamp Leviathan:
Bigger, badder, cleaner swamp wyrm. Aka less moss, more regal looking.
Abilities: Hardened Carapace (Extra defense points plus more spines on its body, enabling to deal more damage with slither)
We are 2 abilities short. One for the swamp wyrm and the other for the praetorian. Feedback?

Quote: I think it was action jack that mentioned something about sacrificing. The concept is good.
Well demons and dark elves already can sacrifice their creature, and if both nagas and the dragon-goddess of water are good, I see no reason for religious murders...
It would be best to find a third idea about racial ability, then.
Quote: I realy don't see the point in riding turtles.
Well yeah, but when you put it that way, what's the point of dwarves riding bears?
Anyway, basilisk-turtle 2:1.
EDIT:
You know what, I changed my mind. I don't want turtles anymore. Crocs are way cooler, for some reason I was thinking unupgraded versions were also gonna ride basilisks
I think the praetorians should have the shield allies ability, like footmen or dwarf defenders. I dunno...
I dislike the slither ability for the wyrms, although the name itself is cool (reminds me of a song by Metallica).

Well, I think I havent said that I *created* my town proposal alone actually, and havent *copied* from Alc, just that I was inspired by him. You know, I havent been thinking of a naga town before I saw Alcs ideas. I was impressed by it! He made a perfect system, but I saw some bugs and tried to repair them and add some of my visions. Thats all.

Really? Why not?
Refuge is my preferred choice if you don't want Sanctuary to change its name.
Useless in duel mode - yeah, hadn't thought of that; maybe just have it as an ability which no duel heroes have.

Nymphs don't fit in with nagas. Nymphs are like water elves. This is more of a swamp town with swamp-like creatures, snakes, lizards, crocs. in fact every creature on this line up has some features of those three creatures. Nymphs, sirens and undines would all stick out very prominently. It would look like an elven blade dancer standing amongst orc warriors, wolf riders and shamans. the two just dont go together.

Late at night now, so I got some time to post again. Call it fear of being left out, but every few secs of free time I'm checking this post. Anyway, a few comments on the stuff discussed so far.
Quote: Well yeah, but when you put it that way, what's the point of dwarves riding bears?
I know this, it's fairly simple. There are two reasons people ride on mounts: 1 because the mount is faster than its rider; 2 because the mount is stronger than its rider. In case of a dwarf riding a bear, it's certainly point 2 and possibly point 1.
Is basilisks decided yet ? If so, I have something to say about Petrifying Gaze. I know it's classic, but I don't like the idea of Basilisks actualy turning guys into stone. Magic or not, it seems realy strange that a non-selfconsious creature can do such. Personally I like the explaination given in Age of Wonders better, there it says that a Basilisk does not realy turn it's victim into stone, but their gaze is so freightening that it's victims paralyze in fear in such a way that their body turns stone-stiff because of a overdose of fearinducing hormones or something like that. If you guys like it, I could look it up and give it such a twist that it's usable.
Also remember that if you give the Viper Zealot a shield, you should keep it for the Cobra Zealot. If you give the Cobra a halberd, you could fit the shield to it's forearm, it doesn't nesecarily have to hold the shield. BTW why change to a halberd, why not elongate the mace, maces have been know to range from 50 cm - 2,5 m. Just a suggestion.
Does slither in its current content act like flying or does it not work with walls; also is it active or passive.
Next, couldn't we change Wrath to Geyser (again), it fits a bit more IMHO. If not, maybe you could consider giving the Swamp Wyrm Tidal Wave again. Perhaps you could give the Templar/Preatorian the Deep Wounds ability; this would cause the last surviving creature (if damage was done to it) to die when it's that stacks turn. (Example: if a stack of Preatorains attacks some Squires, let's say that this time 14 Squires die and the first in the stack is damaged for X damage, they would die if it would be the turn of the Squires. Now let's say the Preatorains attack a stack of Peasants and 54 of them die and the next Peasant in line is not hurt, the deep wounds ability does nothing).

Fair enough.
Geyser sounds strange to me, although I think perhaps Tidal Wave is too much on the ocean side as opposed to the swamp - the latter being what you're going for, yes?
