The thane maybe but excluding the brawler seems funny.

Agreed - as I see it, the Brawler is deffinitely a Dwarf.
But Nival have certainly not been very systematic in their approach - that's true. Like, if they didn't use the word "Dwarf" in the Thane description on purpose (because it's not a Dwarf) why didn't they use it in the Brawler description? And why does the Brawler stand as tall as the Human? So ... I don't know.
But I'd still say - no matter what the Brawler is, the Thane is not a Dwarf. The Brawler certainly doesn't fit the regular description of Dwarves of "Iron discipline" but since there are 6 different clans, that might the explanation. I wonder - does the campaign storyline say anything about that?

Actually no. But they seem to be inspired by the Thibbledorf(?) Pwent character in Drizzt novels. He is the wildest battlerager/berserker dwarf from Bruenor's clan and he started training other dwarves in this style of combat. He had a spiked armour and gauntlets and would charge blindly at his opponents without thinking trying to tear them apart, punch, bite or hug them! Can't be a coincidence!
The campaign says nothing except maybe a clan's name. There is a berserker in a cutscene that informs Wulfstan of some news but everyone sees him as a fellow dwarf, didn't notice anything suspicious.

In Fortress, there's only one Dwarf creature: The Defender/Shieldguard and mabey Spearwielder/Skirmisher.
That's it.
Who that said that these Dwarves were created according to LOTR, he is wrong.
Were ever in LOTR Dwarves that has something with mind control? that do magics? that ride on huge mammothes or bears? Which are HUGE? Which Teleport? (Yes, Thanes/Warlord suppose to be a Dwarf)
Dwarves are small men and women, that's it.

There are dwarves among us in real life due to a ganome which isn't prevalent. Mini-me is an example! However they have nothing to do with the fantasy dwarves.
And it's not about mind control as going into rage requires little conscious thought. You aren't even thinking so a mind spell wouldn't affect you much. About the mounts dwarves adapt to their setting and climate. Pretty natural if you ask me.

GL, no one said THESE Drarwes are created according to LOTR. Don't know where you got that idea. It was pointed out that dwarves as a race have existed for a looong time.

I said the Dwarves here are not really Dwarves and they can't be a race.
Some of you said that mabey they come from LOTR or The Hobbit. I think it's not from there.
Okay?

I feel Ubi proved they can be and successfuly so. They are fun to use and have a different and creative gameplay. The only minus is yet another dragon and the ganeric feel of the dwarves. Things that can be overlooked but could have been vastly better.

I believe you are referring to the first reply on your topic. "The Hobbit" was mentioned just to show that Dwarfs as a race exist, not that the Dwarwes of Heroes came from there.

Exactly.
And, GL, if you read the first page you'll see that dwarves can do magics, enter a berzerk state and ride a bear.

In a race, there are different kind of people.
Let's talk about animals: tigers are not a race, but felines are a race, because they include tigers, cats, lynxes, leopards, tigris, panthera, etc.
That's what I meant: There's only one kind of Dwarves, all the others are not Dwarves.

if theirs enough dwarves to make a race, then they make up a whole race (ish), thats what would happen in real life, although i dont think a dwarve would be foulish enough to ride a grizzly bear

Not really.
In biology, race is used in reference to different kinds of living beings of the same species (usually humans). However, in fantasy literature most humanoid species are called races.
If you think about it, they usually are races of the same species. In biology the common definition of a species is that creatures of the same species are capable of interbreeding and producing fertile offspring. Remember that there are (for example) half-elves who are... "fertile".

As for the "giant dwarf" issue, I'm afraid those are simply... giants. Just like the entire Dungeon faction is a Warhammer rip-off, so is the Fortress faction. Take a look at the Mountain Clans from Disciples 2, for example.
