Lol. Then he needs to learn to respect others and stop thinking that everybody must like the things he like.
Maybe he needs some help...
Im okey with dwarves as a faction but i think they could have done a much better faction than dwarves.
If they wanted something in the north they could have made an norse faction...
Atleast that would be better than dwarves...
Oh, and i dont think rune magíc is strange, i think it really suits the dwarves.

yes maybe he do, or someone has hacked his account( i know this is very off-topic to discuss LiZaRdMeN here, so i post something on-topic too)
I think that fortress may win against sylvan, but the fairest method is to take two level 1 heroes(one from sylvan and one from fortress)
Take two fully upgraded towns and wait 3 months and then fighting the battle in lava terain

About the Dwarves:
On the moment I noticed you revived the thread, I added the sentence in the end. I think Dwarves are okay as a race, as much as they are okay as a single creature. It's just a different point of view, the classic or the innovative.

Still going on about this? xD
Dwarves are a race but I personally would still have preferred to see them as 1 single creature, a whole faction based around them isn't very interesting, in my opinion.
It would have been cool if they had based the entire faction on Vikings though Keep the tier 1 as the only dwarf, and go with norse mythology. Plus a specialization in ice instead of fire would seem to fit more in that sense. I think they wasted an opportunity here. Just my two cents.

Though most Dwarves are portrayed as mistrusting arcane magic, they have what is known as 'deep' magic. They can always tell what direction they are facing, are highly resistant to arcane and illusion magic, and have an almost magical ability to make things of amazing quality.
There weapons making is awe inspiring. Fight a dwarven warrior in a maze of tunnels. You will be convinced they are magical. Some of the strongest priests are also of dwarven blood. They are said to be able to speak to the rocks and the mountains, and stand strong when others would have fallen a long time ago. They may not be able to cast firey bolts of death, but they have a magic that is all their own.

You're talking about such traits as if they are universal facts...

Of course not. This is just another aspect of them that people don't often see. I have read stories that have Dwarves as technology crazed individuals that run if they hear the word 'magic'. Like most creatures, they very with the story teller. If you like them, they will be more powerful. If you don't they might be worse then garbage gnomes.

Eh, there is no such thing as universal lore. There are some facts that are generally adopted by just about any fantasy world, and some that vary greatly.
I'd summarize the general idea of dwarves as such: They are short, have long beards, like living inside of mountains or underground, beer and gold.
Everything else is up to the creators, be it an aversion to magic (the Warcraft dwarves can't be any offensive casters, although they can be healer classes like priests and paladins), or magic on their own.

First off. Dwarves deserve as any race bein their own race and faction!
Second: The thanes and warlords are not dwarves, but either as the first name says a race called Thanes or we copuld also call the Giants. If you have to say they are overgrown dwarves, use your imagination for natures sake! I for example thinks that they are magical rune enchanted dwarves, the only worthy dwarves honored to be magical strenghtened by runes on their armor, though they may not be visible.
Third: The berserkers and brawlers are naturally overtrained dwarves that reach a muscle mass tha makes them just as high as an average sized man.
Fourth: Whats so wrong with dwarves riding bears? Its a fantasy inspired game! Chew a little on that. It should not be taken as a real life, realistic, fantasy infused game!
*Sigh* Well now when I got that off my chest..

I prefered Steamtanks . Moles are mostly for digging underground, although they were a decent unit for the tier.

From what I know Tolkien has studied Scandinavian/Norse mythology and has taken most of the fantasy aspects from there. The Vikings believed that there exists a world inhabited by immortal magical beings, among them elves and dwarves. Following the norse tradition all were great wariors and smiths. The elves were able to give the weapons and armor magical properties. While the dwarves extracted the best ore for their weapons and armor. The dwarves were also excellent smyths with quite a temper and love for all kind of festivities involving drinking The ways of the dwarves and elves are very similar to the viking way traditional way of life. Vikings wrote using runes. Some runic incsriptions performed by the priests were supposed to give enhanced powers or protection.
The celtic culture has an entirely different version of elves and dwarves. The elves and dwarves are small magical creatures that live in the forest and have a strong binding to nature. They can talk to trees, animals and do a little illusion or charming magic. They're not harmfull at all, appearing as peacefull reprsentatives of nature gods.
I believe that there is a confusion between these 2 types of dwarves in HoMM as well as in many other games. Rampart for one used to have creatures from celtic mythology such as leprechauns, fauns, druids, centaurs, etc... so dwarves would've fitted well as creatures in that castle. However elves and dwarves in rampart failed to be consistant with this celtic view as they were taken from the norse mythology familiar to most via Tolkien's fantasy.
Hence I think that the fortress faction is quite consistant, since it is quite close the nordic mythology. Remember that one of the most important gods for the vikings is Thor, god of thunder, this is quite consistant with this faction having creatures capable of casting thunder.

Nice essay! I think that dwarves are fine as having their own castle, but it needs a few more other units. Changing Thanes to Giants and the like would improve it vastly. Also, taking the Dwarves off the bears would be good.
