Yeah, I know that the Dungeon is a rip-off of Warhammer Dark Elves.
I played Fantasy Battle in times it was Heroes II the newest version of the game. And - It is a succeeded rip-off. Whole Dungeon was remodeled to match the faction, and it does match.
About the adaptation fact - What could be a trouble of adopting in such a situation? In a world of magic, where the most dangerous and lethal creature in the surroundings is already on Your side after taking a pact with it's "mother"?

Well, every tradition has to start somewhere.
(...)
So - You now see a beginning to a new tradition.
The tradition of The Dungeon as a reptile-loving, blood-obsessed dark elves living underground in matriarchal society, with a cup of slavery.
Quote:
That was in reference to the actual castle within the Heroes III town screen, which sure as heck looks like as close to an underground prison-like structure as is reasonably possible to me. With similar logic I could argue that the grassy plains around Erathian towns aren't Castles, or that the swampy areas in Tatalia aren't Fortresses. The name comes from the central building.
If You do want to look at the city name like this - So be it.
There is but one phrase I want to say: "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet"
If one really can't cope with the fact that this is the new dungeon - let him create a mod to change the faction name.

Thing is, it's not a new tradition at all, but a recycled, stale, unoriginal clone of Warhammer's ones.

Chill out, I honestly don't care about the name myself. I was just trying to fish for the logic in whatever you were talking about with the buried Greek antiquity and the absence of an actual Dungeon.
