If you do that your main will be at a lesser level in which case it's just as bad. Unless he already has reached lvl 20

Here's a frustrat[ed] strategy
I had me a level 23 Deleb w/ Expert Enlightenment. Good so far, right? I mean, that's fuel for the War Machines. I tried to go easy with multiple skills because I didn't want to get Flaming Arrows buried under a sea of freaking perks I didn't need just yet. Nope. So the gods toy with me and give me Dark Magic too. The heck am I supposed to do?!
So I've got Enlightenment, Dark Magic, and Attack. Problem is, not once does Battle Frenzy come up, not once. Not once. Did I mention that not once Battle Frenzy didn't come up? So I've got these stupendous pwnj00killudeadwithmyballistakeke stats and no Flaming Arrows and no Luck. I might as well be using a pea shooter without those add ons.
My artifacts were lousy. My stats were:
22 attack
2 defense(courtesy of a shield. Can you believe I was level 23 w/ Expert Enlightenment and never got a lick of defense?)
9 power
22 knowledge
My buddy gets 2 pieces of the dwarven set, and ring of speed and ring of celerity. Oh yeah, he's warlock and first town he took was another Dungeon. So I went up with this crippled Deleb against a Sinitar with a 14 defense and double the troops. He's immune to my Frenzy. My 9 spellpower means my Puppet Master sucks.
I got precious little support from my artifact merchant wagons. The relics are awful, and I don't get enough resistance arties. So I try to kill his luck with 2 cursed rings and the cloak. Lol, he's got 40% magic proof to his creatures and decides to nuke me with Armageddons, in spite of his irresistable magic. Helluva war of attrition. He finally beat me for the first time with that tact..just kept nuking me. Once he got Deleb I had no secondary with which to carry on the fight. Score one for him.
My beef? Oh yeah. It's real tough for Inferno. And, I'm convinced now that if you go War Machines you need to go luck.

hah I think you need a lot of familiars at first Too bad there is no familiar specialist, that would give more chance of getting them join you on the adventure map
On a single-castled map it's difficult but with two towns + external dwelling you can pretty much completely drain the enemy warlock. He can still hitnrun the familiars, though. You'd need like 400 of them to feel comfortable ~~ 600 feels better, 800 insta-pwns warlocks. But hey, that's impossible to get.

With random maps you can never be sure of what towns are going to border you. I had 3 towns to his 2 (out of an 8 possible on the map) but mine were Fortress and Haven.
My familiars didn't have much of an effect of my fights with him. First, because I lost a lot of them fighting the computer players. Dumb move, I know. And second, with his boosted initiative, my familiars got blasted before they even took their turn.

well, with swift mind available to warlocks, things are much worse for demonlords ;-X
you can still try sorcery + counterspell + Curse of the netherworlds to kill single stacks of matriarchs/mistresses that prevent the counterspell from working.. you can also split the familiars and put them far from each other so at least half of them will steal the mana..

*bump*
It's been a while since I made this topic, ancient HoF times when the world was still young As you have probably seen tote presents you with even more options for driving your opponent insane so let's waste no more time - the shrinks are depending on us
Have you ever witnessed kshatras slaughter half your army in one furious whirlwind strike before you even move? No? Good for you. But imagine the horror that strikes your opponent's heart when he is annihilated before he even has a chance to react.
Requirements: Extremely high knowledge, mini arties with speed/init/attack. If you have luck even better.
Evaluation: If your knowledge is 25%+ and the enemy faction has low speed or init units it can work just fine.
A classic way to annoy someone is make his attacks all but ineffective. I can think of no better way than thunder thanes with runic armour/vampirism/battlerage combo coupled with the effects of the four dwarven sets ie +40% magic proof, mass endurance, mass deflect missile. Hardcore. If the opponent does manage to reduce them to 1 you can still depend on last stand and rune of resurrection.
Requirements: Pretty much stated.
Evaluation: The full dwarven set part is kind of elusive as is getting both summoning and dark for dwarves
You know what is evil? Stop an enemy in his tracks. Repeatedly. Go motw multiple hives abuse!
Requirements: Summon hive, sorcery, motw, good mana/spellpower.
Evaluation: Easy to get but requires timing with fast units.
Another typical annoyance is when the opponent steals from you, rob him first! Rune of magic control steals vampirism, rune of battlerage makes it more fun.
Requirements: Soldier's luck.
Evaluation: Easy.
Easy to execute and powerful, Haggash's centaurs act first, chieftains boost them and they shoot twice. Can be used with excruciating strike but there is usually no reason to try, nothing remains
Requirements: Preferably good luck/morale/archery.
Evaluation: Easy.
What's not to like healing your magnetics while hurting the opponent? Let them keep hitting, you'll keep fireballing .
Requirements: Warlock's luck, fireball, ignite, motw, phoenix cape. Some defense would be nice.
Evaluation: Takes good spellpower but it's fun.
Why does academy have all the sadistic tricks? Don't answer that, rhetorical question. Feel the power of archer's dream, initiative arties, morale and mass haste! Seriously broken just like your rival's morale.
Requirements: As mentioned.
Evaluation: Takes some luck assembling the set but it's possible.
Another pain in the butt, I introduce the teleporting berserk/battlerage battlegers! Teleport amidst your enemies and watch them stun their key units to the death. Just activate berserk rune before the teleport for maximum havoc.
Requirements: Teleportation, rune of battlerage/berserking.
Evaluation: Kinda easy, just takes timing.
Along the lines of die hard units check this out. Barbarians with defense, bloodfire and shout of rage. Hard to lose rage, gain at insane rate and amount
Requirements: Blah blah.
Evaluation: Hard to get both shout and enlightenment.

one the most frustrating action I made :
I was against a friend. I had about 10 shadow ladies remaining (with no spells left) and he had a stack of warmongers. I attacked while being invisible, whip strike triggered and casted frenzy. about 90 of them were still alive. oups. fortunately, I had casted slow on them, and my hero got to act twice, and my ladies once before the warmongers. just enough time to move away the ladies and cast 2 insanely powerful firewalls between them and the warmongers.
it's quite fun to see a stack walk through 2 whole firewalls and die just before it can attack you
the most furstrating hero I made was probably a sylvan hero with rain of arrows, hive and blade barriers.
once, my friend had a huge stack of rakshasa kshatra. I covered the whole battlefield with blade barriers. he couldn't attack without suiciding several of them
a funny counter to griffins is to put a blade barrier / a crystal, where you think they'll battle dive / rush dive.
my friend also had wyngaal with all the best decreasing / increasing initiatives arties, mass slow, mass haste. his units could act twice to 3 times more than mines.
note : all those heroes were made with the duel hero editor.
ah yeah, I once "cheated" too. vittorio with triple ballista, flamming arrows, the engineer ring and runic war machines lol

Haha, nice one, but with Arcane Crystal it's not very effective since that spell is best used to hit multiple enemies and not just one.

This isn't a thread that is likely to help you improve your H5 skills though you could get some ideas If I were you I'd check the table of contents, there are many faction strategy discussions that could help you improve.

Quote: Your stack has been frenzied and it is your hero's turn, but obviously you cannot Cleanse ! The best solution here is to Teleport your frenzied stack between his armys, so he takes the damage ! This is the best counter obviously, but if that isn't possible , because your troops are too mixed in front with his, you can also go for another solution , teleporting your archer stack away from the frenzied stack...
yeah I did that in a duel with Zamfir. luckily for him there wasn't many left in the frenzied stack (only 50 war dancers) and that killed some banshee's and some ghost dragons.
anyway I lost the duel.

you can do really nasty things with duel heroes. especially if you modify directly the xdb files like zenithale, I think you can give them almost all the abilities you want.
(vittorio with remote control? )

How about a Sylvan Hero with lots of mana, High Druids giving spellpower to the Hero, Runic Machines, Imbue Ballista + Triple Ballista and that Ring of Machine Affinity. Then Imbue a powerful Implosion or some other destructive spell, and it will be a carnage.
I don't know if this thread is for only combos that can be achieved in-game (e.g. without editing the duel heroes), so sorry if this was off-topic.

1) Stacks of Pristine Unicorns + Last Stand + Regeneration + Health Artefacts/perks = They will hardly ever die, while the Arcanes and Daruids finish you off.
2) High Druids + Expert Light + Ressurrection = Massive Ressurrection combo
3) Dirael + Expert Summoning + Wasp Swarm + Rain/Imbue arrows = same effect as Hive + Motw, but more powerfull and one time. High Druids can help as well.
4) Imbue Ballista + Tripple Ballista + High Druids + Rain of Arrow + Generic mass Spell (preferable mass Vulnerability, Fireball or even Meteor Shower) = Painfull... Just painfull.

I think the funniest imbue case I have seen was when I imbued meteor and the three favoured enemies were adjacent. Carnage Now if you add pendant of mastery, slippers and init arties for the druids to boost your spellpower before you act
