Late-game Fortress while being sieged. Go defensive, just send out your numberous guardians and keep on defending until they die (meanwhile you try to handle enemy flyers and shooters as usual). Once all the 'free' shield guards are gone you can annoyingly start to cast Divine Vengeance all over the place.
Probably takes some luck and fantasy but I'm sure it'll do.

I'm sure there are ways to get around this strategy that I'm missing (and I'd love to hear how some of your would do so! ), but I sorta ticked off a friend recently by using Razzak with only a stack of Magnetic Golems.
Now I really love golems... IMO they're the best defensive unit in the game because:
1. They're mechanical. Immune to poison, life drain (vampire abiltiy, or vampirism spell), and mind-affecting spells (no blind, no puppet master, no frenzy, etc.), and they aren't affected by low morale.
2. Enchanted Armor. Any damage caused by spells (except fist of wrath, supposedly) actually heals them instead of hurting them, so even warlocks can't really hurt them despite having irresistable magic. Also, IIRC, they're immune to buffs/debuffs because of this ability.
I added a mini artifact that increases Defense, HP, and Initiative, and then took Stand Your Ground and Evasion (not hard since Razzak starts with Defense-->Vitality). Also, every time I had a choice between attack and defense at map features, I always took defense. By the time the game ended, My Magnetic Golems' defense was somewhere in the 70's, and they had tier-4 or 5 HP.
Outside of Defense, I went with:
Sorcery-->Mana Regen, Arcane Training, Erratic Mana
Destructive Magic (skipped all perks)
Enlightenment-->Intelligence
And of course Artificer--> Mark of the Wizard
I built my Golem Forge, resource/growth buildings, complete Mage Guild, Artifact Merchant, and Library before anything else in my town, filling in the gaps to raise town level with requirements for those buildings, the gremlin building and it's upgrade, and the Upgrade of the Mage building.
When I finally went up against my friend, I just moved my gremlins and mages off the field (I carry them along for creeping just in case), and stuck my stack of golems in a corner (where they could only be hit by 3 enemy melee stacks at a time, only one of which can be a large creature) and kept issuing the Defend command over and over... they could withstand hits from stacks of 30+ tier-7's and lose less than a week's growth. I put Mark of the Wizard on them, so every AoE spell I cast would also be cast on them, "resurrecting" a few, and if their numbers got too low, I could just cast the spells right next to them to get double the effect. With well over 450 MP at around level 20 (due to Enlightenment and Intelligence), and reduced casting costs (sorcery perks), and Artifacts, It wasn't all that hard to outlast even a necro opponent (which he was, thankfully not Zoltan though). Then, after taking out his ammo cart quickly so he'd run out of shots for his Skele-archers and Liches, I could toss out Armageddon to take huge chunks out of his over-sized army at a time, then heal my golems back up with fireball (I happened to pick up a phoenix feather cape). Meanwhile, the stack of golems would pick pieces of his army off with retaliation strikes as well.
My Golem numbers did bend a little, but I managed to slowly bring them back-- I think I only lost about 25% of the few hundred I had overall before the fight ended... he lost about 90% of his total forces, including the extra troops he'd been raising the whole game, his strongest hero, and I took all his artifacts. It was just a matter of rushing him after that... remember I still had other stacks with me, so what he had left didn't put up much of a fight. Even if I had lost, I did enough damage to his army that the full game's worth of Titans, Djinns, Raks, and Gargoyles I could still bring out from my town with another hero probably would've finished the job.
I think I may have skinned that cat a little to well though... he hasn't wanted to play since, even when I told him I wouldn't play as Academy, let alone use Razzak.

Things are never that simple. Unless you have armageddon and possibly destructive boosters that is not enough to win a game against a good opponent. A few examples:
Sylvan's arcanes shoot first with favoured enemy golems, maybe with luck. Or emeralds hit them first anyway.
Dwarves get dwarven luck and resist more than half of your spells, maybe use rune of elemental immunity.
Haven casts magical immunity on its paladins or crossbowmen and keeps hitting you. Etc.
Either way in a balanced map you rarely if ever get to the point of having 8+ tier 7 and that is usually with tier 7 dwelling too. If you have the battle on week 5 with many golems and good spells but neglected army growth you are normally at disadvantage, by end of week 2 it's recommended to have colossi and castle.
Edit: And yes necro is quite vulnerable to destructive, especially armageddon phoenix combo. Academy can get magic protection arties to make things worse. Still necro is a better rusher than academy and can attack them before they gather strong forces.

i was just tinkering with the viability of a knight with sorcery...
i think that maeve could be a good candidate. if she has empathy and sorcery + teleport assault and mass haste and a buttload of paladins, she can keep teleporting paladins to a favorable position to take advantage of their jousting damage while increasing atb at the same time! empathy would be improved by her "special mass haste" and sorcery would also cut down on casting intervals
can we say paladin rushdown!

and sorcery doesn't "trigger" with mass haste / power of speed
on the other hand, dirael with sorcery could be interesting. if you don't have rain of imbued arrows... (or if you don't want to be imba )

@asheera: oh yeah...forgot about that...i was wondering why i didn't try this out a long time ago...
@fauch if the knight did have teleport assault, he would only have to cast mass haste once(assuming no counters), then the empathy + sorcery would kick in for the teleport spell.
heck now i remember, i think on the good side only the mages have teleport assault *whacks head*

as for dirael, she is my favorite overpowered sylvan hero. the few times i played with her i always managed to get dark magic, frenzy and the archer's dream set(which is like expert sorcery for ranger specials)
don't know if sorcery works with ranger specials though...

Sorcery works only for spells (and not mass ones), it doesn't work for abilities like Mark of the Wizard, Benediction, Rain of Arrows, etc.

@ebbafan
your idea could work with demolord but you'd have to be very lucky with skills (leadership, enlightment). Just imagine those pitspawns/pitlords or even hell chargers with searing aura

I'm not sure what you mean with Searing Aura? That one triggers when the units around the Hell Stallion act, not when the Hell Stallion itself acts.
But the Fear ability could indeed prove very deadly triggering many times because of fast acting.
