Do you play with mods? maybe you could try this one which replaces dungeon with nexus (the town from tales of karador, with some little changes)and say what you think, though it isn't 100% finished, a few texts don't appear :

i recently started to play the homm V (tote 3.1) campaigns and ive a problem - the game runs fine 4-5 mins and then laggs like hell for about a minute.Normally i play on very high with max anti alasting and max filtering, reduced them firstly to normal with no anti + no filtering, and then to very low, but the problem remains ...

The alternate upgrade units in ToE really makes the game more fun and complex. I bought and played ToE first, and just recently started to play the original HOMM5 campaigns. I must say it's not as fun to play without the alternate upgrade units and the other new features introduced in ToE.
Is it a way to play the classic campaigns from the original HOMM5 with the new features from ToE (including the alternate upgrade units)? Some mods or something perhaps?

Disable hud
A while back I asked how to disable the hud for clear screenshots. However I can't find my previous post in the thread. Could someone please remind me how to disable the hud for better pictures.

Mean interface? I vaguely remember you add some lines in the game's code and when you press C+I the interface disappears. Check here for more information, after you unlock the console you follow the instructions under Assigning the console's hotkey.

i am at the 2nd map at tote campaing with the orcs and i have to reach the last clan:ull dash or smth.the way on water is blocked by rocks and on land it doesn t seem to be one.help?

Get close to water and summon boat. Must have bought lvl 2 talisman from the town first.

help for tote
i am a new player in this game and i am stuck in campaign mode. the heart of darkness.. how to hire or produce more heroes? we start with 2 then one i got it in main castle. one more i got when i release it from prison but still i need more heroes  please help. stuck here for a long time now...

Hi everybody!
I need some help! TOTE-flying to the rescue! This is where I have to find the tears of Asha to finish a ritual! I've checked out the obelisks,the 2 maps but can't find way to the tears or to the enemy city!Please,give some information about this.

About MMH5-T.o.t.E. 3.1 installed on Win.8
The very good news is: It works like a charm.
It is version 6.2.9200 of Windows Pro that I just installed over my installation of version 6.1.7601(SP1) of Windows Home Premium Edition.
All mods are functioning without any known bugs, just yet.
Anyone dared to try that stunt yet?
Let us, all, know about what could be going wrong under Win. 8(any edition).

Now, I am using a full edition of Windows 8.1
The game is, still, not showing any lag, graphics templates failures or, anything else for that matter.
This edition is the 6.3.9600.xxxx and, still lots of updates and upgrades to its own main file system, every month.
Display's VGA card driver is at 14.200 and, proves to anyone that, improvements are never a waste of time and energy. Helps a lot on the 3D graphics rendering of any game played. Must be enhancing the old C++ encodings of this aging game, positively.
You must use a special app. to scan your machine's inner chipsets to get the latest in both sound and video device drivers.
Here are a few of them that can help a lot at device driver searches:
DriverMax v.7.x
IObit's Driver Booster v.1.4
esupport's Driver Agent's latest build(subscription is needed for that one though)

Destroying Walls
Heh can someone please tell me - do walls and towers repair themselves instantly? if I destroy a wall or tower and then flee, can another hero then attack in the same turn and have the towers/walls still destroyed already?
