Here is the replay of the final battle of a game I recently played.
It shows the power of Inferno with Light Magic.
Even if really rare, I had the chance to build a Demonlord with Light magic spells. Map was Day of Colossus and the battle took place in week 4. The opponent had a not so good selection of spells which probably cost him the game.
My skill selection:
Expert Gating, Hellfire, Mark of the Damned.
Basic Logistics, Scouting
Expert WM, TRiple Ballista, First Aid
Expert LIght Magic, M. of Wrath
Expert Attack, Excruciating Strike
Expert Luck
My selection of light spells: Haste, Regeneration, Righteous Might, Divine Vengeance, Anti-Magic, Teleportation, Resurection.
(Got Lucky with the Mage Guilds and the spell shop)
Inferno with Light Magic
Please comment on the replay and especially on the Army selection. For Week 4 Day of Colossus, with Inferno, what army line-up would you suggest? I also had the 2 Pit-Lord Dwellings built but as the enemy surprised me it was all I could have bought in this time frame.
So anyway, what creatures should I have bought / what dwellings would I have prioritied?

You should always try to get light magic with demons. Its perfect for them, just like it was attack in hof days for sylvan. A perfect 2% skill... always have it. In day of colossus you should build/get skills for a week2 break-fight.

Kinda hard breaking with Inferno week 2, and as my guardians were a pack of Emeralds I thought the enemy will have trouble with them too in case of a rush.
Another question: Do you rush to the second town in week 1, or do you take the mines around and leave the town for early week 2?

True, you need some luck with guardians. But orcs for example break in week 2 no matter the guardians so you have to be prepared for them. I take the 7th lvl building and 2nd town in 1st week.

Losses could have been avoided by turtling the gargoyles.
Crystal Dragons don't actually have a breath attack so he might have done much better in this fight imo

Yes they do. And no matter how he had shielded them they act first and reach the back line. There's a small chance their breath attack would only hit the gargoyles that shielded the main stack but..

well exactly my point.
There is a small chance that the big stack gets hit in the first attack. Instead of the 100% if the gargoyles were left unprotected...
And with multiple one-gargoyle stacks you can cover this big stack for 2-3 turns.
The breath attack is more like something that procs not an actual breath attack that hits every time in the desired direction.
So this game could have been won with just several gargoyle lost

Well I'm not so sure my losses could have been "way" lower for sure but Crystal dragons does have Prismatic Breath..... (and sure I could have hit the Motw ones dbl.... bla bla.... but then It vould not have been so close to suicide... (btw it was from a "hero" style game I can't retreat from battles.....

Some people don't appreciate the irony in this Besides even if they hit only small units the first time they'd hit hard the second time, it's not as if they are slow.

I was pointing out that is was close to suicide only because you made some errors and I was just trying to show them to you so next time you'll do better

The 16 dragons was controlled by the other player, so such battles maybe can't expect much
But losing around 100 stones, wonder if the battle is worth the fight? Alot of goodies after that fight ?

I'm perfectly aware of that. He's a very good player, but even good players make suboptimal choices.
