I wouldn't want to promote RPs I'm in, but since you asked there is a shortage of players in World of Darkness...

Armaments has been on hold for so long on my part that it will take time to get back into Shariya's head.
And with Mass Effect 2 behind the door it's an endangered species now.
Should I find work things are going to be quite hectic for me.
They al ready are and I haven't got a job.
But I'm trying, I'm trying.

I just had an awesome slide on a slippery floor, for a moment it felt like slow motion. Then I landed Thankfully I only hit my elbow on the fall, hope that won't cause me problems in aikido.
Last time that happened was a couple of years ago on a thin layer of ice, fun times.

Actually that should be helpful for your Aikido. All those nasty falls will remind you that you need to practice your falling techniques

Nah, no need for a roll. Just land in a side position, chin as close to your chest as possible, your legs positioned so that the kneecaps don't crash into each other and slam your palm into the floor to maximize the spread of energy.
Not sure how Aikido's falling techniques work though, never seen it. I bet it's not that different from Judo and Jujutsu though.

Not quite, we have softer falls since few of the techniques bring you crashing down as fast. Maybe a fast iriminage but otherwise I haven't encountered any where you cannot react to the fall.
Most look like this.

If I recall correctly Aikido is mainly based on Kata and not so much free sparring right? I can see the problem there. If you can always see the technique coming and always be prepared you'll never learn how to handle the unexpected, like a slippery floor
I'm sure there are lots of Aikidoka who have the falling techniques in their muscle memory though. In the end the martial art doesn't matter, only the performer does.

I do that too if it's just a softer fall. That looks really smooth though. Compared to Aikidoka we Judoka look like barbarians
Especially the people from my Dojo, we're known for being brutal and more focused on raw power than technique
Quote: Makes for a perfect finish position.
Yeah... Judo wasn't developed for samurai fights. In older martial arts the falling techniques are more focused on getting up fast to avoid being stabbed.
Most of the Judoka I know have techniques that allows us to avoid potential follow-up attacks though.

Technique beats strength, better using something in between. Personal opinion.

I agree.
Our original sensei was a heavy weight guy and thus our techniques were influenced by his strength. Using heavy weight techniques while you're not heavy weight makes you... well strong. We developed muscles quickly but it also made us a bit too focused on techniques that actually didn't suit us very well. Thus we won many matches due to forcing a technique through with strength.
It's different now though but we're still pretty damn strong. Mainly due to our training being way more intense than that of other Dojos.

I don't know, we are supposed to simply feel, follow the opponent's motion. As such we don't try to predict what he will do, of course that is mostly for the attacker who is the recipient of the technique. If you are a defender you will still let the attack come but you'll have to make the choice of holding your position or rising to meet the attack - and which technique will be used. With experience I'll probably be able to guess better the possible variations in each attack but you still cannot fall just because it seems at the opponent is about to throw you, aikido is very combo-able. Sometimes our sensei starts unleashing his combos at random intervals and we are dumbstruck
Speaking of muscle memory that is a given if you want to react fast, recently I watched a video of how to fall safer from a quick throw. It came up automatically next time I was down fast. Anyway I love how rolls come into play, adds a nice touch of harmony. Smooth.
It's interesting seeing how each sensei has his own vision. My signature comes from that, you can always learn what your sensei has in mind but eventually will modify it to better suit your individual style. In my case he's mostly trying to awake our sense of ki than work on individual techniques, also the moves are very akin to a sword's - fluid, abrupt, constant. That was not how he was trained initially but he's constantly trying to improve, currently he has 4 dan.

Yep. And fast as hell itself. He knew how to use his weight properly.
That's one of the things I love about Judo and martial art in general: it doesn't matter what your bodytype is. There are always techniques that suits you.
