Ok I think this warrants some explanation. Sure, on paper it does seem as you say. But each time you dispel a frenzy/puppet and hit with your nasty-damaging unit on the enemy's pathetic defense you are one step closer to victory. And magical immunity can prevent you big stack of paladins become a dark magic plaything long after your mana is gone because of these pestering familiars. If knights had as much mana as the demonlords you would not enjoy what you would see.

i prefer dark magic in every game and i play always with controlling magic, but in heroes light magic is better than dark
sure, with dark u can kill creeps better, but in end battle, light magic wins
first of all, dark magic can be resisted and it ruins the casters plans and strategies
because of my luck, my first frenzy or puppet are always resisted, so i hate them
and dark has no strong damage dealing spell, when light has divine vengeance
and the light magic doesnt really need high spell power, while dark needs very high one
and the light magic faction have very good units, so they can fight without any magic (only dispel), when the dark magic faction (necro) has very weak units and is nothing without its magic
of course, inferno has very strong units,but hasnt high spell power

We were talking Light vs Dark, not specificly Uber Knight with Light vs Defense lacking Inferno with Dark

Summoning magic:
I mean summoning element,duplicating units,phoinexes and rising dead can get you double units in game lol

Dark: Very universal magic, just like Earth Magic in Heroes 3, Mass Slow, Mass Confusion, Mass Weakness and Suffering, Puppet Master, Blind, Vampirism, excelent choice for every race, sadly Barbarians can't learn this.

Light: Works same as Water Magic in H3, Plenty buffs and have ressurection spell, my favourite magic for good races like Sylvan(it is needed for Nature Luck) or Haven(very good synergy with Luck and Attack)

Summoning: Must for Undead, 3rd favourite school, main spells are Raise Dead, Summon Elementals, Phantom Forces, Arcane Armor(Very helpful with Vampire vs Neutral creeps, Phoenix(OP Bird with crazy stats, yeah he is expensive, but can help on equal battle)

Destructive: Only Dwarves and Warlocks, Dwarves for Magma + Arma + Master of Fire + Ignite Combo, most times have 0 loses, Warlocks have crazy damage with this school, empowered spells + warlock luck + destro masteries and elemental vision I get 2k or more dmg from Implosion or Deep Freeze, sadly, Dungeon can not have Black Dragons + Arma anymore, because of racial skill. Very good support to dark magic and useful from early to mid game.

Runes: Some of them are imbalanced, like 2x speed, battle rage, etc. Yeah I know Dwarves are slow and have crappy attack, but still runes make super tough.

Warcries: Well, if they worked likes runes and Stronghold have normal spells in Guild, this could awsome, have quite goodies like Fear my Roar or Horde Anger, but except Fird Aid Tent they can't reduce loses.
