Firewarriors are supposed to be ranged nightmares. I say keep them that way. A smart player will find a way to disrupt them with melee units, vehicles, gernades, etc. There are a lots of ways to do it. Without mines or turrets, the Tau need some advantage. Their melee units aren't that great, their Relic is worthless, and you're forced to chose between infantry and vehciles. (I always go for Patient Hunter myself because I'm one of those people that love firewarriors.) Crisis Suits are ok but tend to die quickly. Broadsides are decent but only when their railguns are deployed. I will say the vehicles are quite powerful. The Hammerhead and flyer (can't think of the name) are particularly nasty.
One gripe I have is how worthless shield drones are. It'd be better if they were automatic instead of manual. I usually don't even bother and just get a second captain.

Shield Drones worthless...? Shield drones own! I always use them!
They do require a bit of micro... but I usually have all my FW on nr.1, I just press next unit and S, next unit and S and I have all shields active...
And I agree, Fire Warriors are supposed to be ranged super units. Oh, and I also go Patient Hunter
But I'd like to say... Skyray > Hammerhead because of the Missile Barrage
Also, you'll have to choose Mont'ka to get the Hammerhead.

I must disagree with you here. Necrons were IMO overpowered i Dark Crusade but ow in Soulstorm they are perfectly balanced. They are my favourite race and I spended hundreds of hours playng with them. The flayed ones are supperb at harrasig enemyes. You teleport the necron lord unnoticed at the key structure and summon there the Flayed Ones ad after that you summo theb back at the moolith. I this way you can distract the enemy while you are slowly building your restored monolith. After you have done that the necrons are unstoppable. The Necron warriors after you make both upgrades at the summoning core are very good at defending the monolith. And all the time I focus on obtaiing the restored moolith.

No, this is how the Necrons should play, according to the uncyclopedia.
Necrons
Widely considered a n00b army, due to their special "We'll be back" rule. Roughly translated, this rule states that any player using Necrons automatically wins the game. Necron players are also permitted to use as many models as they like regardless of points cost, use loaded dice, and give a dead leg to their opponent whenever they feel like it.
Necrons are supposed to be undead machines which roam the galaxy destroying all life they encounter. Apart from creating extremely repetitive and mindless games they bear a striking resemblance to the Terminator robots from the film with good ol' Arnold Shwarzewhatever. Just remember that this does give you license to;
a)Sue every Necron player you see for plaguerism.
b)Question every Necron player as to why they have chosen such a cold and heartless army and relate it to how cold and heartless the player must feel inside.
c)Beat up every Necron player for defiling the glorious legacy of the Terminator films.
d)Beat up all Necron players who say "We'll Be Back," in an Austrian Accent.
e)Feel good about yourself regarding how much you have/will enjoy/ed beating up children smaller than you and how much they deserved it.
Fans have begun to suspect this army was only created when Gamesworkshop recieved a vast sum of money from the coca-cola industry and thus created "living, killing, invulnerable coke cans of death and destruction". During the editorial stages, they were changed to undead skeletons to make the influence less obvious even though they kept the Coca-cola logo on all of their model's behinds and vehicles right next to the "Made in future china" bumper.
C'tan
These are giant scythe wielding hooded star gods who for some reason have found it amusing enough to hang about killing things for the Necrons. We dont know why. We don't care why. There are Four C'tan in existence, the Nightbringer who whiles away the millennia by carving his way through the Imperial guard one at a time, the Deceiver, whom merely sits about watching events unfold then descends at a later date to claim it was all his master plan only to get a mean scolding from Tzeentch, the Outsider, who left the C'tan before they released their first big single "Star Mangled Canner", and the Void Dragon, who has infiltrated the heart of the Imperium and now works as a toilet janitor on Mars. It is rumored that he actually is MacGyver.

@Omega:
I have a fatal problem which I need to address...
In a game with Oscarius today I had the advantage, I held him off with a combination of Fire Warriors, Pathfinders and Stealthsuits, as a bonus I had three Devilfish transports to help me retreat my units if neccessary (it really helped)
Then I look at my resources bar and sees 1000, 500... what the hell am I doing??!!
That's one of the most basic things in strategy games! Never have unspent resources!
Oscarius was pumping out Defilers and Chaos Raptors and I only had 2 FW, 1 Pathfinder and 2 SS teams, that means 8 cap
I forget to spend my resources when things are going too well, I should start hotkey-ing my Barracks or something so that I can quickly get more units...
Os had to disconnect but he had clearly won the game, I need to fix this problem of mine.

Another article.
I love this quote:
Quote: "Part of it was that we wanted to avoid StarCraft comparisons," says Ebbert, comparing StarCraft's Protoss with 40,000's Eldar, and Blizzard's Marines with GW's. "StarCraft just lifted the 40,000 universe wholesale and brought it to videogames. Ironically we came out six years later but we had to be careful of looking like a StarCraft clone, even though we were the originals."
