Quote: What I meant by forge scare is that now, when someone says "guns" people automatically think of bazookas and machine guns, not of early ones.
And an alternate upgrade arquebusier is really that bad?
Yes and No
Many of forum member though of FORGE factions when someone say anything about firearms
it's not that bad. in fact.... archer should be replaced with Handgunner/Harquebusier. the upgrade should be Musketeers and Sharpshooters
did all of you read too much swashbuckling novels? (or want everyone to go to swashbuckling schools?? )

Quote: Heroes of Might and Magic series is a MEDIEVAL FANTASY based series, not a more modern or sci-fi series.
According to the core storyline of Might and Magic (which is closely intertwined with Heroes no matter what you say or think) that's far from the truth. Let me repair that statement once again
Quote: Ubival's new Heroes of Might and Magic universe is MEDIEVAL FANTASY based, not a more modern or sci-fi setting.

I don't see anything wrong with guns, provided they're limited to one town. Admittedly, guns would have a high damage, but they'd also have low initiative, which would even things out, and probably low speed as well.

well the thing about guns is that soft bores were not invented until long after the invention of cannons.
and handguns themselves were invented far after the invention of cannons. They had power but a crossbowman or longbowman still had advantages (barrage, bodkin arrows(pierces most armor), and power)
if what people say abnout guns making previous weapons useless... well i'll just leave it at a peasant with a crossbow could kill a knight with a lifetime of trainin in realife.

Hand cannons were in use as early as the 13th century but were just that, cannons small enough to carry, and therefore, heavy, unwieldy, and required a second person to fire if a suitable site couldn't be found to mount them.
The next step up, the Arquebus (about where I envision HoMM6 would be), was longer and thinner, and more importantly, had a matchlock trigger, so could be used by a single man. Nevertheless, they were still big and heavy in comparison to crossbows, and still took a long time to load.

I say yes.
But not on all units. Just very few, like units in Academy should get tanks (aka dragon golem) etc.
And Havens archer should get an alternate upgrade called Muskeeter.
Summary: Yes, but not 99% of all units and factions should have it and the game should not be 99% abbut guns....

There are a couple of "guns" I can imagine in HOMM, not really, but somehow yes after all!
The first example would be a cannon, somehow like this, if we want to stick to a good appearnace:
The second one would be a flame thrower. There isn't any good picture on internet, but it would be enough to have just a simple machine that casts fire. I know that flame throwers aren't really guns, but since fire was inwented millions of years ago, it wouldn't be a hard thing to put it into the game. Maybe in a mechanical town.
Oh yes, and if we would have guns, just in mechanical towns please...!

Fire has been around since Neanderthals roamed the earth, if not before, but flamethrowers are much more modern, with the first recorded being used by the Byzantines after the fall of the Roman Empire, and while fire was in use before that, flamethrowers appear not to have been.

Okay, but exactly what use is a flamethrower going to be, because fire is only useful vs. ships, and I suspect naval battles are going to be as rare now as before.

Ergh, Academy already had guns (Gremlins). Deny it or not, they're magically powdered guns.
Greek fire (of course it won't be called that) is a representation of how semi-modern day weapons could exist in olden days. After all, it is Might and Magic, and I'd say guns fall into the category of Might.

People do get hurt by fire, but it's going to be a lot easier to use magic or fire-arrows than by flamethrowers, which in the medieval period were big and bulky, and therefore, not easy to use against infantry.

Exactly, that's why flamethrowers or any other elemental based weapons will be redundant because of spells.
