Cha!

No sooner had Mina freed the Electric type when the latter was sent flying away by the force of the Absol’s attack.

Pikachu!

Mina ran over and scooped up her youngest team member; the little yellow Pokemon was cleanly unconscious. Mina murmured a reassurance and recalled her, then returned her attention to the fight.

Huh. Mina spared a glance at her Pokedex as Sandshrew’s attack landed. Normal type maybe? She made a mental note to look it up later. Whatever. Lucky me.

She was planning the next round’s attacks and fingering Houndour’s Pokeball speculatively when the remaining hunter suddenly made it a moot point.

“We have better things to do than deal with a horde of children—ta!”

Mina called back her Sandshrew with a curse and hit the dirt.

----------------

Main Group:

The group hastily recalls their Pokemon and takes what little cover is available as the four-wheeler tears away. And not a moment too soon…

KABOOM!

There is a bright flash, a fast expulsion of hot air in all directions, and then nothing but a char mark around the twisted metal shell of the device.

Mina pulls herself off the ground after a moment and looks around. The four-wheeler carrying the hunters away is rapidly retreating from the scene.

“Everyone all right?”

"Yeah." Brona said. "And we really should have minded our own business. Several of our pokemon got knocked out, and those guys are just gonna move on to other Pokemon."

He threw a rock at a tree, trying to get some of the aggression that was building inside of him out.

“So we aren’t going after them then?” Mina asked, her tone restrained. Part of her reasoned this was sensible—they were already on a mission, and they had no easy way to deal with prisoners. But another part of her (the piece currently focused on her unconscious Pikachu and the fact that the one hunter had thrown a bloody explosive at them) was screaming for vengeance and perfectly happy to chase both hunters until she dropped from exhaustion.

"That we can't capture them have nothing to do with if we should not help victims of their attacks. The only difference is that it makes the fight longer and harder for us, but we don't help others because it's easy, or hard, but because it's the right thing to do, right?" Zack shortly says out in the air, without looking directly at anyone.

"So are we heading for a pokemon center? We should report the hunters and as I haven't seen any police here, maybe the nurse is the best person to report it to?" Zack says, now in the direction of the group.

Now looking at Mina "I understand how you feel, but we really should focus on our mission and only change attention when absolute necessary, like this was. I don't think the hunters can continue their hunt just yet either. One of them is affected by a psychic attack, I didn't see if they even get their gun with them and their main source of capturing electric pokemons have fainted. Not to include that all they've left who didn't take any damage is the big fat pokemon. We actually achieved a lot more than freeing the pokemon around us, now they need to take care of their wounds and that'll delay them.
Anyway, look at the fancy equipment they had, they must have some connections with the outside world that ships in these items for them, or a middle man, and I think we both know the most likely middle man in this region. If we can stop the shipping in of all these kind of weapons, then the hunters, not only these guys, but all hunters, won't be able to hunt, nor ship pokemon out to sell them on the black market.
I think in general, to remove crime from this region, we need to take the big ones out first and then focus on the smaller ones afterwards, otherwise my guess is that we'll only produce setbacks not solutions. Though I think we really should wait on focusing our attention on this matter. I hardly think, eventhough we're strong as a group, that we're ready to any kind of big attack on team bandra. We need to get our team a lot stronger and probably also have our pokemons tactically improve eachother, like me and misty with ditto and mr. mime" Zack says, hoping to calm his team mate, not to seek revenge and create a shot setback for the bad guys, but to help pokemons and people of this region more permanently.

Stacey recalls Rattata, and is barely able to turn around, calling Slugma back before the explosion. She turns around, dropping to the ground.

As Mina asks if the others are alright, Stacey can be seen rolling on the ground, a few small flickers of flame rising from the back of her shirt, but steadily getting smaller. With the flames taken care of, she sits up, listening to what the others have to say.

"I also don't know how we could catch up to them, with us using nothing but our limbs."

Stacey calls Mona back out, and treats her burn, and uses a potion on her.

Mina felt a sudden, powerful urge to find a nice flat surface—a desk, or perhaps a wall. But she squashed the urge and tried to keep her tone reasonable rather than frustrated.

“Pretend for a moment that catching up to them isn’t an issue,” Mina suggested, lightly tapping the Great Ball on her belt. “Should we capture them and make some attempt to turn them in to the proper authorities, yes or no?”

She couldn’t help but watch the receding shape of the hunter’s four-wheeler as she spoke, speeding quickly out of sight. How far away was too far?

"I say yes." Brona said, frowning. "But not now. We have our orders, and the faster we get to our leaders the better. That is our main objective, we were to help them as fast as possible. I don't think they'd consider some Pokemon thieves a good reason to let them rot in some ruins or whatever."

"Unless someone one either side cannot accept we do the opposite of what they want, then we either do what the group of people who can't accept doing anything else, in case that's so for both sides, we'll probably have to split the group and finally if neither side absolute must do one of the things, then let's vote." Zack says

"I vote we celebrate we won when it mattered and let a small fish stay a small fish and go for the big fish, so let's continue as planned.

After all, we don't have a the slightest clue what might be waiting us, if anything, these guys probably have set traps up and I don't know what to capture pokemons and getting rid of unwanted visitors. If they're prepared to throw a bomb at us, I don't think it's wise to risk following them before we both have some kind of escape plan and a way to deal with the threat of their potential arsenal of weapons and traps." Zack says.

Mina’s frustration nearly strangled her. She had a plan but not enough time to explain it. If she’d still had Pikachu conscious it wouldn’t have mattered, but without some way of disabling the other hunter—and keeping them that way—it was too risky. And with no one in the group who had a Pokemon capable of what she needed willing to help, all she could do was watch as the hunters disappeared over the horizon.

…aaand they’re gone.

And now with them out of sight, she couldn’t even guarantee the first part of it could work. She broke her gaze and turned to the others in irritation.

“Fine. Let’s go. But I reserve the right to say ‘I told you so’ when this comes back to bite us.”

Mina called out Houndour and had him sniff around with Odor Sleuth while Stacey finished patching up her Oddish, determined that if the hunters were going to escape she’d at least have some trace of them if they crossed her path again. She said nothing aloud but instead mentally recited the list of reasons why letting them go was a stupid idea.

----------------

Main Group:

It’s about 5:30 PM as the group sets off again.

((Roll = 73))

The group continues on through the grassland as the sun sets and night encroaches.

((Roll = 50))

About five hours after the fight with the hunters, the group reaches the foot of the mountains. Visibility has been greatly reduced and it takes some stumbling around in the dark before Brona manages to find the path he took on his first journey through.

The mountains are much quieter with no Ghost types attacking, and the haze that clogged the air for Brona last time has since dispersed—there are no other signs of human or Pokemon. The next leg of the trip is as a result uneventful save for a brief pause when the group comes to a fork in the path, which ends when Brona leads everyone down the left fork up into the mountains without hesitation.

About a mile of travel later Mina’s Houndour stops and growls. A trio of Grunts are blocking the path up ahead, just barely within sight; they have a Graveler out and seem bored, having apparently not noticed the group yet.

((@ ohforf: Read the travel summary again. And yes you may.))

Main Group en route:

Mina tells him.

((

Seriously, role-play it. I have a rather lengthy IC rant I’d like to give. ))

----------------

Main group in the mountains:

Mona slips away along the rocky sides of the path (being a nocturnal species helps) towards the Grunts to fulfill Stacey’s wishes. She’s about halfway there when Draloed calls out his Pokemon. Then there is a moment of confused shouting from the Grunts—

“Didja see that?!!”

“Yeah, I saw a light! Looked like a Pokeball!”

Flashlights veer in the group’s direction. Then more shouting. The Grunts to either side call out a Wispaferyn each and the center Grunt motions the Graveler forward with a dramatic gesture of his hand. Then the whole lot of them charge towards the group, though none of them seem to notice Mona.

Mona looks fearful at the near-discovery, but bravely chases after them anyway; with the Grunts distracted, she readies herself and sprays glittering blue powder at the leftmost Grunt.

((Roll = 72))

The barest edge of the cloud wafts over the woman and she stumbles. Her face slackens and she falls forward into the dirt, snoring softly. The other two Grunts call out attacks before they notice their compatriot has fallen—only then does one swerve around and find Mona with his flashlight. He orders his companion:

“Go for help! Quick!

And the latter turns to run.
