You could replace the Spearwielder with some sort of crossbow wielder. Another possible unit is the Huskarl (huscarl, housecarl), elite soldiers who carried axes, swords and shield, and were ofter well armoured.

Axe thrower? Not very imaginative, I know, but gets the job done imo.

As for level 6, remember that it needs to be a flyer/teleporter. So, different giants and dragon golems are out. Valkyrie sounds good. A great eagle (or roc) that upgrades either into an frostbird or a firebird might be interesting and symbolic for the whole ice/fire paradox.

For LVL 2 maybe it can be dwarf with rifle (like academy gremlins), let's say dwarf sharpshooter or similar
...and what about frost giant or ettin for LVL 6 ???, i think firebird is also a great idea

What about a smurf Troll unit for tier 3 or 4 ? Potentially shooter. It would definately fit the whole snow / norse theme (it IS where troll lore originated from).

And if anything it would create an interesting effect having a shooter at tier 3 and 5 or 4 and 5 With the troll most likely being a tanky one with potentially no melee penalty.

Also on the note that the faction needs a fast unit - howso? If anything it could make the faction quite unique in not having such a unit.

I would as well vote for Valkyrie on tier 6. Valkyrie / pegasi riders... With some nifty healing abilities.

Trolls would be nice! But not higher and tier 5.
People belived in trolls for hundreds of years, and the idea came from the nordic mythology.

But please no silly bear riders...
Maybe the HERO could ride a bear but not as a unit.

Defenders, yes they are cool.

Spearwielders, no thanks.... more axe-throwers then.

Berserker, should be renamed to Einhijar (cant spell it correct) since they were elite warriors in nordic mythology (of the gods).

Runepriest, yes they are nice. The rune concept is fiting into dwarfs and mythology.

Thane, if you want warcraft copied giant dwarfes then just rename them into giants and make them giants of fire and frost.

Magmadragons, please no more dragons. We have enough dragons already. Yes, wyrms are dragons but they are so much cooler then walking stones. Instead of Crystal Dragon you could do the Crystal Wyrm or Crystal Nidhogg/Jormungdar.

Dunno mates... everything works here. Dwarves are a really creature friendly town, and by that I mean you could get the rock golem which was in discussions lately, you could get a flying birdie, wolves, bears anything... it's really ok.

BUT I wish for only one thing from the dwarves of Homm6 : DON'T BE SO FREAKING OVERPOWERED LIKE IN H5. that's all.

Dragon Golems or Giants would belong on Level 7 anyway.  I find the Fire Dragon good in general shape, but the flaming theme is too bland for my tastes.  Plus, lack of wings means it's not even an actual dragon, so I would have gone with the Crystal Drake instead, which fits into a Dwarf lineup far more comfortably than a fire-engulfed lizard:

The Rune Priest and Runemage heroes are fine IMO, but four Dwarves - Defenders, Spearwielder replacements, Brawlers and Priests - is still too much.  I'd drop the Brawlers / Berserkers, they are quite probably the least inventive unit imaginable.

Trolls would be perfect in tems of mythology and setting, if redesigned - the Heroes II and III guys wouldn't really fit.  Rock Giant-like guys would be appropriate.

And they aren't "evil", or at least don't have to be.

Hmm after reading through here. I got a better vision of what I think could be good, Dwarf based lineups.
And no. Im strictly against anything mechanical in any HOMM game, the dragon golem from H4 was and is still a pitiful, devastating concetp...yet a creative idea.

With a fire based dwarf town. Well, gnomes, magma dragons, berserkers, golems could fit very well. I would really like to see golems in a dwarf, forge and fire town. But then I feel sad for the Silver Cities, Wizards are and still should be their masters and creators of those metallic and cool magic imbued things.

I have two suggestions to avoid feeling "stealing" the golems away from Academy.

Wild golems: By this I mean there could be wild, intelligent golems naturally created by the Dragon God Arkath himself as servants for the greater childs of him, the Fire, Lava and Magma dragons. These (I'll call them Wild Golems or WG for now) Golems ahve stayed hidden in secret caves, caverns for a long time, until the period when Dwarves made the mountains and underground caverns their homes. The dwarves have discovered these unusual golems and told them they are worshippers of Arkath. The golems got enlighted over that and would more than gladly join the dwarves and their other allies to bring forth the will of Arkath! This fiery town could be of the type which mostly consists of beings sticking mostly to the "cozy" caves with forge and fire. You can say this town are a bit conservative but still good hearted.
A town you can draw similarities to Hangvul with and the Flamesteel clan.

Mineral based golems: While the Wizards of the Academy faction focuses on creating metallic based golems like steel, gold, silver, bronze, iron, adamantite, titanium, platinum and ferrous metals (often but not exclusevily metallic).

Well the Dwarves could magically imbue mineral based golems like rubies, emeralds, amber, stone, granite, sapphires, onyx, jade, topaz etc instead. Do differ from the Wizards golems.

Fire focused Fortress

Level 1: Dwarf Shieldguard / Defender / Stone Defender
Level 2: Gnome / Gnome Tracker / Gnome Flamewielder
Level 3: Stone Golem / Amber Golem  / Ruby Golem
Level 4: Rune Priest / Flame Keeper / Rune Patriarch
Level 5: Drake / Silver Drake / Ember Drake
Level 6: Giant / Giant Pyromancer / Obsidian Warlord
Level 7: Fire Dragon / Magma Dragon / Lava Dragon

Speaking of the Giants. They could look like how the Thanes ane. IMO they arent dwarves but Giants. Or you could said dwarves imbued with magics making them bigger...Is it just me or do I get the feeling that size improvement are some kind of promosion for the Fortress dwarves?? Defender--->Spiear Wielder--->Brawler--->Thane. Only except the Rune priests which choose another form of promotion not counting in size increasements ANYWAY! The Giants could be remodeled, reclotched Thanes. With pelts hanging over their shoulders and a furry cape or something. They shouldnt neccessary have this one armored arm, but equal protection of some kind. Maybe a steel armor decored with onyx or something else.

When it comes to a "water" based dwarf town. Creatures native to the snow terrain fits very well and theres alot of great crearues lining up to be a part of this type of dwarf town.

Ice focused Fortress

Level 1: Halfling / Halfling Owl Tamer / Halfling Spy
Level 2: Dwarf Shieldguard / Frostguard / Protector
Level 3: Snow Ape / Yeti / Guardian
Level 4: Bear / Balckbear / Whitebear
Level 5: Rune Priest / Loremaster / Ice Priest
Level 6: Roc / Giant Owl / Frost Eagle
Level 7: Wyrm / Royal Wyrm / Cave Wyrm

Even if Ice focused. They still and will wosrship Arkath, The Dragon God of Fire. They are only more outside of their domain than the other fire based town above. You can say they are more the kind of dwarves you find familiar with Wulfstans clan, the Winterwind Clan. Out in the wild, more friendly to other races and so on. Of the liberal kind.

@ Cepheus

Nice looki'n Crystal Dragon

Remember when I posted all those different colored magma dragons?

Well everything can be turned and twisted I really don't think you'd ever see a town with Trolls as the main race, it's too far stretched and not interesting enough. As such, Trolls can be available as either neutrals or within a faction, such as with Dwarves. Labour force slaves, most likely.

Personally I think the Berserkers are very fitting within the whole Viking theme. I think it would be a pity to take them out.

If one only wants three dwarf units, that still leaves me short of a good suggestion of something for level 2. Personally, I still haven't seen any suggestions that overcomes my general dislike of mixing the humanoid races - Gnomes is probably the best suggestion, Halflings could do, but are a bit on the dull site ... Trolls are just plain wrong in a Dwarven line-up, as they stand for the completely opposite of what Dwarves represent. They could go in Stronghold, if one was desperate to incorporate them. Giants could well do in Fortress, but are ill suited for low level.

I don't think they fit very well, not in their current incarnation at least - Brawlers?  What kind of soldier goes to war like that?  And "Battleragers" in a strongly defensive faction?

There is not such a big difference conceptually between a Dwarf in defensive gear with a pickaxe and a Dwarf who pulverises his enemies with fists - I favour a little more variety.

Sure, from a mythological standpoint.  Though I'm not referring to the Heroes III orcish guys who indeed have nothing to do with Dwarves, more a completely different "Mountain Troll" like the ones in Tzar or the Mountain Giants of Warcraft III:

Minus the shrubs, they are essentially organic Stone Golems.

Vikings were not that barbaric and special "in the real world" you know... most of them used to be farmers
So this is Xerox suggestion for creature line-up II.

1. Defender-Rune Keeper/Hill Guard
2. Troll-Fire Troll/Ice Troll
3. Berserker-Einhjar/Jarl
4. Runepriest-Runemaster/Valkyrie
5. Roc-Firebird/Icebird
6. Mountain Giant-Flame Giant/Frost Giant
7. Wyrm-Core Niddhogg/Crystal Jormungdar

Defenders because its cool with a tier 1 tank and fits with the slow but very defensive fortress.

Trolls because of the mythology. Fire & Ice should be fortess theme.
You could make them ranged creatures, maybe casting body parts of themself (since trolls have regenration).

These replace brawlers. We need to have dwarfs in the town since its the main race. Three dwarfs is enough. And Einhjars are a much better and more correct name then Brawlers, Battleragers and Berserkers
Jarls are from AoM. I dont think they are pretty mythological.
I thougt "Birger Jarl" created Stockholm

Each town has atleast one caster. I think tier 4 is a perfect spot for casters since its in the middle and that runes + dwarfs = best friends. Valkyries brings the possibity of a healing-based creature and female dwarfs.

Fortess needs fast creatures too. Giant eagles aka Rocs that líves in the mountains is cool and it fits with the fire and ice theme.
Since Fortress is not a that mobile town i dont dare to set them as tier 6 since i think Giants are much better then Rocs.

What is an nordic mythology town without Giants?
This is really intersting.
Maybe the Frost Giant could freeze enemies when it attacks and summon avalanches? If there are many dragons, why not many giants?
Trolls could be related to Giants.

Wyrms are very cool. Dragons that looks like serpents without wyrms? Not like the silly h5 fire dragons which should be renamed Salamanders. People want burning dragons and crystal dragons.
I dislike H5 dragons and want mythology and something new and cool.
Thats why we have Core Nidhogg and Crystal Jormungdar.
Maybe the Core Nidhogg could dig itself under walls and the crystal dragons climb over the walls or reflect magic?
