Yes!, THANK YOU!

FINALLY! It works that way! must be something they decided to take out of the hotseat (vs computer) games, it makes sense i guess.

The way your suggested, setting it up through single player custom games works perfectly.

I have been trying to solve this problem for months, great to finally solve. it's a great game and even better without a blindfold.

I completely agree with you about the blindfold thing.  They changed it in a patch or something and I was confused like you.  Jolly Joker explained it to me so now it makes sense.

yea someone found which patch was the guilty party and a patch to reverse this change but the only patch the found wasn't free. I think it's stupid blocking the view of their turn, of course if you haven't explored where they are moving than that's fine but in your own territory, that's just dumb and annoying.

Probably an object on the map was placed outside the usual boundaries - it shouldn't happen but unfortunately it can.

Map is unmoddable now.

New (unofficial) AI patch for Heroes 5 ToE

Hi to all HoMM fans!

I have created an AI patch for ToE that significantly improves on the AI performance. I loved the artwork and design of Heroes 5 but was somehow not satisfied with the AI, after I had experienced the glorious AI in Heroes III back in the ol' days.

This AI patch is a full rewrite of the AI inspired by the spirit of H3 and the chess computer program Fritz that has proven that a computer AI can be a match for world champions. It is meant to give the strategic gameplay of H5 a boost by playing against dedicated AI opponents who know the ropes. This AI does not cheat, on higher difficulty levels the only advantage it has is the lower starting resources for the player.

You can download the AI patch from www.bonddisc.com/ref/H5AI_31.zip. This zip archive contains a readme with simple installation instructions.

Included with the AI patch are three new maps (Icy Defense, Island Hoppers and My Home is My Castle) that are intended as a challenge for veteran players.

I hope you enjoy playing Heroes ToE with this new AI.

You can also find additional information for a community driven effort relating to this AI patch in  Ubisoft's Might and Magic Legacy forum.

I will also make this information available in the Modders Workshop forum once the board allows me to create a new topic. It appears there is a minimum post count requirement and I am just new to this forum.

Welcome to HC Quantomas.  And someone that likes H5 to boot?
I like the ArtWork and H3 as well. <imo> You've hit on the biggest snag with this version, along with the Editor-woes.

This effort of yours will be a great improvement. Putting this in the modding Forum is a good idea, since it is a game-mod. So, you're a programmer then?

It's a completely rewritten AI. It implements its own ultrafast pathfinder and as such is capable of evaluating magnitudes in order more possible paths the AI heroes can take. It has technically a lookahead depth of seven days (turns), compared to something like three days for the original one.

Still there are issues, particularly in the end game that still need improving. As such I see the AI patch as a work in progress. I have now posted additional information in the modding forum, to explain a bit in which direction we can move.

Thanks. Yep. The AI patch is a C++ project that involves pathfinder and AI logic.

The included maps are merely interesting maps that I found valuable in testing the AI. They were originally created with the RMG and tweaked a bit. I felt that the selected maps stood out in comparison to many more created by the RMG and were worth sharing.

But beyond that I can imagine to reenvision the ToE campaign maps. Too many challenges are simply to build an army to beat garrison X. With an AI that can hold its own against veteran players, we have many more options to redesign parts of the maps to create a truly interesting strategic contest.

In a way I believe that the AI is the core of a strategy game, and once this works, we can delve into using it for many advanced and interesting gameplay features.

Hello,
I've been downloading 3.1 from quite a few sites and all it ends up saying: The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are trying to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify it's integrity,and try again.
Can someone help me?

You are doing something wrong. I dled it myself and got one executable file as I always did. It is not supposed to be unpacked, you simply run it. If you are using internet explorer try another browser

I downloaded with chrome. It was an exe file and when i double-clicked it that message appears... Do i have to put it in a specific folder? I just start it right away.
PS: I just tried with firefox the other day and didn't work either.
PSS: why are the files that i downloaded all have different sizes? The latest one contain 78.919 KB. How much is it suppose to be?

You just run it and it patches the game. Don't recall size, I deleted it again. Just make sure it matches your country version, that's all there is to it.

I just realised my download was interupted of some sort. The page i download from says it's about 120 KB but it's only 78KB when i downloaded it... Do i need internet download manager or something to fix this?

Where the hell is this file? i cant find it.
And does someone know, is there a way to restore relic artifact in the academy and dungeon town artifact shop ? It is annoying since 3.1 relic is missing from there. At least for me

It's in the data.pak of the data folder in the game directory if memory serves. And I think relics do not show if the map has too many of them, it is not academy's issue.

Yeah, maybe on map has lot relic, but mostly not what i want, especially hard to find chackles.
And black market is yet offer relics, but it is not on every map, and if it is on map mostly far from town.
I recently play random maps, and experienced that on the earlier generated maps (before 3.1 or hof rmg) still works the relic in town market, so i thought there is a way to restore it in patched games too, or mod something in the rmg template or stg like that.

Why would you want to do that? The game is in much better shape with 3.1. But if so.. you will have to reinstall the game.

Hi, Iīm here again to bring you bad news. Now they do, but they donīt apply the ability well, they do the whole damage to all creatures with retaliation (not attacking)


Could someone kindly explain this bug to me? Does the Paokai's retaliation strike do full damage to each of the enemy creatures standing adjacent to the main target now? So it would do more total damage on retaliation strike?
