Can you resize the video (as in stretch it in a different aspect ratio)?
Any decent player should support this, what if isometric resize a movie so its unwatchable because of the resize? Its simple stuff like that. Kind of not that needed, but its also a nice tool to have when its first needed.
Can you apply full screen without popping anything up when you move the mouse? - Absolutely useless - why would you need it?
Why would somebody not need this? Media Player Classic got this, if you accidently hit your mouse a display won't popup and ruin your screen and watching experience for the next 5-50 seconds.
Can you extract audio? - Does this have anything to do with PLAYING a video? LOL, this is more an editor's job
This is a need, otherwise i would have to manually edit movies to add in sounds and simi things. If i i got messed up framerate on 1 video of "Lets slay Ubisoft" but the sound track is perfect and yet my other version got a trouble with sound but got a perfect framerate.
I cannot image why your not saying this got anything to do with playing movies.
Or can you look at the CODEC details with it (depends on the codec obviously)? - I don't know what you mean by this, but File->Properties pretty much says details about the CODEC used.
Never messed in this area so i do not really know to much about it, but it can be usefull. compression, methode, framerate, alot of things.
Quote: Point is, almost all game trailers are in .wmv format
Said who? Besides somebody could allways dig up a convertor or watch it online somewhere.
Xvid, Avi, OoG or was it Ogg, and alot of others. Most is heck alot better, and .wmv is not open so its made so people would need windows. Actually that is breaking the law to some degree too!

Of course I'm not saying Media Player should be hard for a "newbie" to operate but at least GIVE US MORE TECHNICAL GEEKS some more options geez. Microsoft never listens

I'm done talking with noobs who accuse WMP not even KNOWING what File->Properties displays.
Here's an example:
Length: 02:08
Bit Rate: 4.20 Mbps
Media Type: Video
Video Size: 848 x 480
Aspect Ratio: 1.77:1
Audio Codec: Windows Media Audio V9 Standard 96 kbps, 44 kHz, 16 bit, Stereo (VBR)
Video Codec: Windows Media Video V9 Advanced 848 x 480, 27.81 fps, Q=80 (VBR)
Don't tell me the above doesn't tell Frame Rate and details, etc
Quote: Said who?
*sigh*
If you actually DOWNLOADED some game trailers you would know

I wouldn't say that if i were you. Try TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress, see how many options are. (of course it costs but what do you expect?)
Oh and btw, the "bitrate" is not constant in most formats. That only displays the average I think. Do you even know what a "Gold frame" is for example? You say it's not important? I don't care. But watch who you call noobs next time.
Oh and I wasn't talking about what codec is used, but the CODEC's properties, not just the "sampling rate" or bit rate or basic 'average' stuff. This is not only useful for editing -- it is also useful to find out some stuff from certain frames etc. (even if you don't edit).
Mind you I'm expecting a "who cares about that" response from you, but I just outlined why it sucks more than others. ANY additional feature that it lacks makes it worse. Period. It isn't subjective. Subjective is the "That sucks anyway" or "Who cares about that?" when you can't counter my criticism properly

As far as I know I wasn't even talking to you. Can you stop quoting me when I DO NOT even talk to you?
Read above what del_diablo said and see what's with that "noob" word. It was like an WMP newbie

Yes, but the most important feature for a player is present in WMP, while it isn't on other programs. That makes it better no matter how many other "useless" features the others have (I'm talking about being able to PLAY as many formats as possible, and this includes wmv)

Well personally I don't like that attitude, especially in william

The most important feature?
who uses .wmv anyway? Even MPEG4 is better
(I can say the same about the other features that it lacks, that they are "important" for me, and they obviously are!)

And using the features I mentioned are more important than "game trailers"
how is that different argument?

One more time:
The most important feature for a PLAYER is to PLAY as many formats as possible.
Changing the Hue of the video (an example - it's also possible with WMP but that's not the point) is simply a "bonus" feature, but it is in no way as important for a player (for an editor it is) as to play as many formats as possible.

Xvid:
http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/media/
http://www.starcraft2.com/movies.xml
Nintendo apparently does .FLV and refuse download
Most of the trailers is also availon on streming sites such as youtube and veoh.
gametrailer does not offer a direct download.
Still search for your .wmv trailers.

@ASH: Then WMP sucks.
If that was the case with player everyone would be using something like media player classic.

I'll just give some names of game trailers with wmv, too lazy to search:
Lineage 2, Warhammer Online, Neverwinter Nights 2, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Sacred, Heroes 5
And the same producer doesn't count lol, so Diablo & Starcraft are only 1 = Blizzard

Trailers are usually available in wmv or MPEG and real or quicktime formats. I haven't yet seen a trailer with only one format.
But why are we spamming this thread again?
To make this somewhat on-topic I note that Win98SE is the best OS I've had so far. Win2000 being the worst. i couldn't stand it and got rid of it in a month. Win98SE lasted as long as microsoft supported it.

Warhammer
Sacred has wmv files even in-game
As for NWN 2 and MK Armageddon, I can't find them anymore, but I HAVE THEM AS WMV files on my comp... I don't care if you believe me or not, but I'm sure if you'll search hard with Google you'll find out yourself
And the Heroes 5 one was posted right here on HC, that's where I got it
ok enough with this

I disagree. The most important feature is being able to play audio and video formats regardless of how many formats it can play.
Btw, TheDeath, can you cut that "this is subjective, that is subjective" stuff out? I see that you mention that a lot in other threads and it just gets annoying after a while. After all, this is a thread about computers so who really cares whether something is subjective or not? It doesn't matter so why do it?
