rune of captation can steal spells which are already active on your creature?
though, I didn't quite follow what happened, I was playing a duel against helmar, I had cast deflect arrows on my thunderthane and then used the rune of captation to steal stoneskin from his flamelord. then it was a bit confusing, I can swear helmar cast dispel on my thanes. then, when I checked his thanes, they still had both stoneskin and deflect arrows. most logical conclusion seems to be that I stole deflect arrows and his priests recasted it right after.

Or you failed to steal it in the first place But this has little to do with the topic.

a quick question...
If I specialize in Ballista what's best to have Expert Luck or Expert Enlightenment?

Luck probably but then it depends on how much enlightenment boosts your attack/knowledge(demonlords are perfect that way) or whether you have other luck boosters.

Yeah I guess as a Knight you're better of with Luck.
Luck for Vittorio, Enlightenment for Deleb
Besides my Knight will have a more offensive orientation otherwise...

@Azagal
And so you see that Rune of Charge is clearly not overpowered.
But I don't get it, how is the rune of charge too powerful? In what why is different from when Stronghold, Sylvan or Dungeon charges towards you?
(note I'm not asking because I'm cocky or think I know everything about this game, I just want to know so I can use the rune of charge to the fullest )

Thanks, I'm gonna watch it as soon as I get home.
And by the way since this is a tactic thread, I might share a few tips.
If you start with specific racials that you don't want make sure you remove them before visiting the Sphinx.
That same thing if you want a skill that is really hard to get. You can try getting it by removing the racial perks and maxing the racial skill before you visit the Sphinx. By doing that you will have exactly one skill point over to try to get the wanted skill.
However this could be expensive as the chance of the skill you want to turn up is very low.
(in other words it might still be better to take easily accessible skills first and then hope to get the specific skill, just like Azagal described on page 6)
For example if I have a Barbarian and I don't want to have the "Might over Magic" perk. Then I make sure to remove it with the memory mentor before I even visit the Sphinx. I do this because it only cost 500 gold at level 1 as opposed to 2500 gold at level 19.
(sorry if this is already obvious, I just felt like contributing )

What's even better is that you can get the expert versions of skills you don't need once you hit 19 early and mentor them for 500 a piece instead of 2500. Take Necro and Haven you only need Expert Counterstrike and Necromancy to get the bonuses from the map. You can do that at lvl 1 train troops/raise dead and then mentor it away and keep a lot of money.
Quote: how is the rune of charge too powerful? In what why is different from when Stronghold, Sylvan or Dungeon charges towards you?
In anycase it's a lot easier to block a charging Sylvan or Stronghold (or Inferno, not Dungeon since they'll hardly ever want to do the charging) as they all only have 1 or 2 stacks that can actually reach you on their own (=8 speed out of which atleast one is always a flyer). All the other stacks either need a bloodrage buff, Tactics or Tactics and Aura of Swiftness to work. Now you can easily work arround this with good positioning, blocking movement paths and picking tactics yourself. That way by thinking ahead you'll always atleast prevent 1 stack from reaching you on your side and if you did really good you'll prevent all of them from hitting you first turn or you'll make him hit something he/she really didn't want to hit.
Rune of Charge ruins all that effort. Out of the 7 Fortress units only 1 has the speed to to reach your turn 1. Out those 7 you only want 5 to reach the melee if you plan on charging. Only the Thane out of the 5 can do that without Tactics. If you take Rune of Charge suddenly all the other 4 creatures get double speed!! The totals: Shieldguard gets 8 = he can reach a big creature on the other side in a straight line, the Berserkers and Magmas get 10 speed so they're next to impossible to block without good terrain and the Thane gets 16. Now you have 2 units with 10 speed and 1 with 8 and 16. You can block maybe 1 of those with favourable terrain the other 3 will get through no matter whether you get tactics or how clever your positioning is and that's what's broken about it. Some faction need every turn they can get before the melee starts and charge just completely flushes that down the drain. It's retarded.

Yeah you may be right, "Rune des Stürmens" might be a bit to powerful. XD
In any case it feels kinda pointless talking balance about H5 when Heroes 6 is just around the corner, so I'm just gonna drop the subject.
And as far as the tournament goes I simply trust in those with better knowledge.

not sure, so far I would say no, but in a few years there might be lots of nostalgic people saying how homm5 bests all the new games in the serie

well, i dont know personally anyone that plays homm5 - all the friends switched to homm3, saying that homm5 is unplayable ( dv, imba runeee, wyngaal etc). Tote featured a lot of cool stuff, patch 3.1 however wasnt enough to fix the lame balance ( who gives a crap that there are alternative upgreades, when they are poorly balanced and/or kinda boring ?). Then, the skillwheel introduced in Tote looks like a fan made - if it was done by a fan modder - great, really well done, but when a company desides to give all the perks to every race, instead of finding some NEW and original stuff, you begin to ask yourself - why should i give a crap about this game, when even the developers doesnt seem to care ? Really, homm5 has TONS of wasted potential, and the sad story is that only a few more patches could have fixed all the problems.
The game was just left unfinished.

Has anyone witnessed things like this?
Magic mirror on enemy units?
Sum/Dark Aca with Magic Mirror vs. Dark/Destro Dungeon
Dungeon Hero trying to cast Vampirism on own units - bang, mirrored to another Dungeon stack... WT?
First, it came out quite OK, instead of Hydras it was mirrored to invisible stalkers in a good number, but second time - trying to cast it on 12 Mistresses to disable Blind, bang - mirrored to 5 blinded Furies who were standing beside a stack of 10 vampirised Cats that were right about to act

Counterspell yes but irresistible will still pierce through an immunity. Problem with counterspell though is that units can trigger it too plus even if the hero decides to cast anyway he'll still play first in the next action due to sorcery.
