I know, I understand that's really good, but I'd rather work for 8 hours a day and earn $10,000 a month than work for 4 hours a week and get $1000.
Then again, if you're only working 4 hours a week, you can easily get an additional job - but good luck trying to find one that pays that much.

It's barely anything if you work 8 hours a day. And I got the impression that usually he works much more than 4 hours a week, and still gets paid $1000 a month.

$1000 dollars a month for 4 hours a week is great.... if you could live on $1000 dollars a month. Which you can't. Health insurance alone is going to sap at least half of that, most likely, because no part time job is going to pay full benefits for you.

I guess he gets paid a fixed amount for working.

I guess in US there are a lot of things more expensive, but the problem is that some things are the same in price, like computer hardware and software (games)... and then Americans wonder why Romanians and other poor countries pirate games so much...
Hey, if Americans get around 2000$ a month (or how much?) then a 40$ video game is simply nothing. Oh and now I understand why those from richer countries who play MMOs don't complain about the monthly fee.
2000$ a month is a dream-job here, even if it requires 8 hours a day to work.

Actually, the average is somewhere around $3300 a month. But, even with that kind of money, who'd spend $50 (or $60) on a video game? Why not buy it on ebay for $20 or less?
And the monthly fee sucks, no matter how much money you make.

In Sweden the average is around 4000-5000$/month.
I think I finally understand why people from other countries whine about monthly fees
And stop whining about 8 hours. Its a school day for me on wednesday. (ranges from 14:30-16:00, starts 08:20).
I do wish scholl started an 9:20-10:00, im so tired in school as are my friends. Especally on wednesdays, I almost fall asleep.
And why do you need to be poor if you pirate games?
Pirate Bay comes from Sweden and is moderated by swedes. Pirating here is not a serious "crime" and you cant get any punishment for it. And Sweden is certainly not a poor country.
We even have the "Piratedocrats"/"Piratelicans" who are political groups you can vote on.
I dont know how to say the real name in english, but its "Piratpartiet" in swedish.

..sorry, i have to admit that ive read only the opening posts so far. So i want to throw in a point that is might be said already.
About 3 years ago i also had a 8h5d aW job with a good salary and all the conviniences a big company provides. Still it sucked hard time. It felt like being prisoned.
My point is that not the 8 hours do suck, it sucks that HAVE to be there 8 hours per day, no matter what. The complete system is wrong!!
At that place there worked a women, who took 8++ hours per day to execude her job, and still she didnt make it. It took me 4 hours per day to fullfil my job completely from day one on, and after organizing and automatizing only 2 hours! But thats exactly when the problems beginn.
You have to stretch your work back to 8 hours. Otherwise youll be in big trouble with the other peeps that doing almost the same job, which should be THEIR problem, but it is yours. So instead of going home after doing a great job within 2 hours, you are FORCED to sit there and "act-like-you-are-working". Thats when the prison feeling comes.
Plus there is always one aswhole in your "Team"(haha), that wants give others and maybe you a hard time cause they feel better in their own primitive unfulfilled life. Most of the time those unable idiots are "higher ranked" then you. So the current system also sucks hard time on that point.
I really got sick with this system and luckily enough i managed to escape of it. Now im a selfmade business man with a 12h7d aW working time, but guess what, im happy like nothing else about that.
My workers get paid per hour, and they can choose on their own how often and when they want to work. The loan per hours is good (not overwhelming) plus they get more when i see that they do more per hours then the others. Noone is allowed to act like an ass, and if i would notice that, i would give that person the hardest time of his life. I think thats the better system, still not perfect but better.

You suffer cuz you have no time?
You should check the south Koreans and Japanese for inspiration cuz a normal student there stays in his/her first school 8 hours and 5 or 6 hours the second(yes they go to two schools in a day).
Imagine what the workforce does.

Not very inspiring, they are the countries with most suicides, most depressed people and they (Japanese) even have their own word for death cased by overwork.

Maybe a little off topic but...
Doesn't the Japanese religion (Shintoism, is it?) actually encourage a suicide at some situations?

Shintoism is neutral towards suicide. It encourages people to commit suicide to avoid dishonor, though.
