BOTH DO APPLY.
1) You own the CD and the stuff on it.
2) You do not claim that you are the creator of the work.

Think of it like this. You buy a programme. Now you own it, right? You can resell that CD. So, if intellectual property is abolished, why couldn't you do that with a CD with a copy of someone else's data?

With the quality of water in some places, that's quite understandable.

Quote: Think of it like this. You buy a programme. Now you own it, right?
Assuming there is intellectual property (I addressed the other case below), then the dude who sold it to you must give you rights to sell it, of course. And WITH intellectual property or today's (stupid) laws, you CANNOT buy or own software. All you can do is RENT it. Period. That's why it's stupid. Even if you spend money on it, it's not yours to do whatever you want with it (including copies).
Quote: You can resell that CD. So, if intellectual property is abolished, why couldn't you do that with a CD with a copy of someone else's data?
Because you will sell the "intellectual property" in it, which in this case, it's yours. Which is impossible, because you said it's abolished. Don't you see the contradiction?
If you are going to sell it for the price of a blank CD that's fine by me tho. But once you sell it for the DATA in it, it means you ARE SELLING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. That can be either yours or someone else's. If it's abolished, how can you sell something that is abolished?
This goes in both ways you know.

Because if you rent, you have to give it back, and you have to pay while you're using it.
Quote: you have to OWN the data to be able to sell IT
You DO own it, or at least a copy of it. You don't have to create something to own it.

Mvass what are you talking about? It is called "intellectual property". You can only own property. So what is it then in your opinion? Something else than intellectual property? What kind of property?

When we talk about "buying" a song, we are using laymen's language. In reality we do NOT buy the song, only a license to use it. That license has specific conditions. The song itself is still owned by the musician or record company or whatever.
If you really DID own the song, then yes, you could upload it to a file sharing site and give away as many copies as you wanted.

haha so the Bible is true if enough people believe in it? If 99% of humanity says that the Earth is a square, you can imagine why I wouldn't assign that argument credibility at all, and neither would science or any objective measurement, right?
And mind you, most of the people with computers share. So your argument just turned around against you.
...in a democracy. Should just see your reactions.
