Rikku decided it best to keep their element of surprise, since they seemed to have it for now. Though, just letting Victor venture to the upper area without anyone nearby, to provide backup, was not something that was even to be considered.
Rikku stood ready to ascend the stairs should the need arise. Carefully, s/he studied the stairs Victor climbed, making mental notes of which ones seemed safest.

Doom makes it about a third of the way up the steps before one gives way. His foot suddenly plunges into open air, and the pieces of the broken step fall to the ground with a muffled clatter.
The noise draws attention from the people upstairs, and one of them pokes their head over the edge of the rotted flooring.
“Oy, visitors!”
The head vanishes and from the top of the stairs descends another individual. He’s armed, but his movements are careful rather than outright hostile, and he lacks the pointed ears Doom and Rikku found themselves possessing—he looks to be an ordinary human.
“Hail and well met,” he says cautiously, “and who might you be?”

Abaddon picked up one of them and pretended to be terrified of it.
- Oh no, it's trying to kill me! Help, help! Oh, wait, the damn thing's dead!- he threw it near Rikudo's feet.- the dangers of the marsh? These things are the least dangerous for what I have seen. Although you can't admire their ferocity.

Mark nodded towards the goblin "What the green-skin said. Hell, even a peasant equipped with a farm tool is more dangerous than these creatures, but alot more timid." then the thought of the Black Fangs crossed Mark's mind "Actually...peasants are a lot more dangerous than this, some of them are actually more scary than regular soldiers. Hehe"

"Peasants are not dangerous, unless you are the naive type. I tell you what, back in my days we killed people, dissected them, and found out their secrets. There was some interisting stuff that was found, such as how they did do their magic tricks. The most interesting tricks was found on dead peoples corpses, even on some dead beasts too. They had many secrets, but in death they was easy to find. I once fought a interisitng fellow who's sole ability was to ignite, a few minuttes later i looted the ability from her corpse."
And then the thought hit him: "....... but in worst cast scenario it does not apply to this world, hopefully not."

Dr. Doom cursed his bad luck. He was hoping to get to the top unnoticed and use the element of surprise to his advantage. Anyhow, this man (seemingly an ordinary man) did not seem hostile yet, so there was no need to rush into action for now. Doom lowered his staff as a sign of peace, feeling that his new body is more than able to fight bare-handed.
"My name is Victor. I passed nearby when I heard a noise coming from this abandoned tower and submitted to my curiosity. Might I inquire your name and purpose here?"

A contest? That would be fun to enter, under different circumstances. Right now, there is almost nothing that sounds the least bit fun. Only thing that would be right now, would be getting back into her own body. However, may as well play along, and see what's going on.

He seems to be relaxing slightly, and his companion peers over the edge of the floor again to wave at the pair. “Just a simple bit of Alchemy to cure wounds and injuries. They aren’t usually this hard to come across, but with every group on the island looking for one they’ve become somewhat scarce.”

That is, for the simplest potions—I’m sure there are some more advanced techniques for the more complicated brews with which I am unacquainted. Doom cringed a bit at first when he heard Tidus' voice from behind him. He was certain that he told this man to guard the rear and he wasn't used to having his orders questioned, let alone disregarded. However, his companion raised a few valid questions and seemed to put the man upstairs in a chatty mood, which was always good for gathering information, so Doom let them talk for a bit. When it seemed like they stopped, he decided to fill the gap in the conversation as quickly as possible, changing its course to a more intruiging direction.
"So, Brent Filiant, how do you fare so far in this contest? Any luck?" He asked, as friendly and casually as he possibly could.

Glenn finds a trail of child-sized footprints in the muck. They could just be from another Halfling, except their maker appears to have been alone and wandering aimlessly. They meander deeper towards the center of the swamp.
