Playing through Torment: Tides of Numenera.  So far, it's quite good.

I've heard some cool things about it. I'll have to check it out eventually.

Would you say it's worth picking up even if I'm not as interested in RPGs as I used to be? I used to play them back around 2000, then went through Fallout 3 and New Vegas on pure nostalgia. I played some Planescape: Torment, but didn't even make it halfway through (this was due to some frustration related to a big misconception and my not knowing that companions can be revived pretty much at will).

If you like reading (that is the main prerequisite, seriously) and don't mind the fact that the game is actually not really a game but more of an interactive novel - go get it. Otherwise don't.

It is definitely a game. Heck, even visual novels that require only to click for the next scene are still considered games. Just a slight nitpick.

I am not sure if you would enjoy it.  The game is very much a CRPG of yesterday but it is nice being able to solve a good deal of the problems without resorting to violence.

Also regarding Planescape: Torment, in my very first play through, I completely missed the part where you gained the ability to resurrect companions too.  It certainly made the game a bit more challenging.

Oh, I had the ability alright. I just was under the impression that its use was far more limited than it really was.

Hardly, you can have book with pictures on Kindle but that's not a game. In Torment you mostly walk around, click on things and read. Yes, there are other features too but they feel like padding. I don't mind that, I play RPGs most of all for the story and Torment is no exception but it's not a "game" for everyone, especially those who want action at least every once in a while.

After playing Tides of Numenera more, I strongly recommend waiting for bug fixes.  I've had the game hang on me once during combat, for no discernable reason and also have suffered a permanent knockdown effect outside of combat, rendering the entire game unplayable.

Also, for those curious, combat is unfortunately the weakest aspect of the game by far.  I'm at a part of the game stuck fighting endless monsters, on top of more summons, where I get knocked down every round or so, thus limiting me to just one action or move.  It's really fun constantly replaying the scenario.

So I started playing The Witness today because humble monthly. I got it fully expecting to hate it. I like the idea of puzzle games and I've played a few that I mostly enjoyed, but I hate it when a game makes me feel dumb. So far it feels pretty formulaic, but the visuals are quite soothing.

So I just finished The Witness. For the most part it was the right kind of challenging, and I would recommend it if you enjoy puzzles. There was one particular puzzle that made me more angry than it should (and not because it was so difficult in itself - I figured out the correct answer almost instantly, but struggled to complete it because of a small ambiguity in visual representation), and the ending left somewhat of a bitter taste in my mouth. I'm sure there was a better way to punctuate the whole thing, really.

EDIT: For some contrast, I started playing Guacamelee. The controls are a bit much for me, but I'm pushing through. Apparently it's better on a pad - maybe it's time I bought one? Either way, the soundtrack and the visuals are fantastic

Midterms are coming up on my front. meh, who cares, it's cheeki breeki time.

Going back a bit to the original Stalker game. because where else can you kill ukrainian gopniks and military.

Also been playing the original Borderlands as well(with the hunter class). Damn, I really wish they've kept some of it's gun designs in the sequels(at least in the Pre-Sequel)
My biggest gripe with the game's designated sniper class is the action skill. pretty useless until much later in the game, if you invest enough skill points in the "Rogue" branch, to make bloodwing somewhat useful.

I'm playing DOOM (2016), and even though my first impressions when playing the Demo were rather "meh", I ended up loving the game. It's highly entertaining and it's just fun. Well optimized, too. I'm getting almost 130 fps at 3440x1440 on ultra setting, lol.

The only thing I dislike about the game is the gun sounds, they're too quiet, and feel too lame. I want the shotgun to do a loud BLAM, not this sound of crushing a paper bag.

Well, now that Mass Effect Andromeda went down the akin-Heroes-7-development lane, I'll have to find something else to distract me. I think I'll get the Witcher 3 Full Edition.

On a side note, I was replaying MM7 a bit, getting until the end only to start again. I always feel the game so ... dead when I get only the last quest to do. Can't even bring myself to keep playing after that.

MM8 ... I had installed too. Maybe I'll play this one more carefully, because I'm not sure if I ever finished it.

But now that the hype for MEA passed, and the things that were bothering started really to bother, and all the deja vu disaster from very bad decision making, felt like Erwin was behind all that, I'm left to wait for patches and, if given too much credit and if they deliver it, a DLC. But simply put, another franchise gone to hell.

So is Mass Effect Andormeda that bad, or it's a solid 7/10 game but oveshadowed by the weight of the hype that was building up to it pre-release?

I'm currently playing Horizon ZD and really like how it appears so well-designed and thought-out. Everything is made to enchance the player expierience (well I only wonder why you need craftable 'traveling gear' to fast travel). Some may find it dumbed down a bit, but I actually welcome the change from Zelda BotW which was quite challenging in the first few hours. Here everything is intuitive and well placed so it maximizes the 'fun' factor. And the graphics are simply gorgeous. It's probably the best crafted temperate-climate world (Europe/North America zones) I have ever seen (there are different climate zones, but that's the one I'm currently in). And also the best looking downpours I've ever seen. And the sound! When it rains you can even hear the sound of water droplets 'crashing' into foliage. Soundtrack is also very good and spiritual (it really fits here).

So far the only things I dislike are voice-overs. Well I know people here are actually descendats of our civilization, but so many voices appear out of place or simply bad. And the whole narrative in the relics of our civilization like recordings or journals also seem like over-the-top. Too ambitious for it's own good, like the devs forcfully wanted to give this game a bit much more seriousness then it really needs.

EDIT: I can't seem to get myself into Horizon after Breath of the Wild. I mean the game is great, but it's just so straightforward and boring. I think the 'slight' difference is that feeling of wanting to push forward Zelda has. Or maybe I simply can't handle two open-world games one after another.

Also got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The game is a joy to look at, pure and simple fun to play. And there are some really well-thought handicaps like auto steer so it looks like my 4 year old niece might actually handle it, we'll see (it's her first contact with consoles). My brother and his wife also dig it so it might fulfill that family get together aspect. Exactly what I wanted from the game.
