INFERNO (Ancient Egyptian themed)
Core: Devourer (gluttony), Ammit (wrath), Overseer (sloth)
Elite: Efreet (greed), Succubus (lust), Pit Fiend (envy)
Champion: Devil (pride)
Neutral: Imp (core), Nephilim (elite), Brood Mother (champion)
NECROPOLIS (Aztec themed)
Core: Anubith, Zombi, Loa

Xerox's ideas are good, I would also like to play with factions that look like that. The best idea is that the Inferno's creatures represent the Seven Deadly Sins.

I would love a jungle/swamp faction that looked like this; there is a jungle tileset, so I'm thinking we will get a town for it, and the Aztec-themed HoMM III Fortress fits perfectly.
Town Name: Bastion/Ziggurat
Theme: Lizardmen town, with an Aztec theme; many temples, tiered structures, and animal motifs.
Core: Pincer, Lizardman Archer (shooter), Serpent Fly (flyer)
Elite: Basilisk, Gorgon, Lizardman High Priest (caster/shooter)
Champion: Quetzalcoatl (flyer) or Hydra, depending on whether Hydra stays with Dungeon.
Racial Ability: Blood Rituals-Bastion/Ziggurat heroes can sacrifice creatures to confer strong buffs onto their creatures or themselves.
Hmmm, I like the idea of the racial, but sacrificing creatures when no other towns have to for their racial seems like it could weaken it a little; any thoughts? I think it is unique and fitting for the theme but want to make sure it's balanced.
Pincers should resemble something like Mirelurks from Fallout: armored crustaceans with large claws. Mirelurk

Please people, please, please, please, please, I beg you to the bottom of my heart, to the bottom of my soul, please STOP inventing names for creatures! I am crying and begging you!
What the hell are Ammit, Loa, Caplata, Incarnate, Darkmantle, Crimson Ooze, Marzanna, Giant monstrous undead Spider, Greenvise, Mimic, Pazuzu.
How do you suppose such *strange* stuff to appear in a game like Heroes? Creatures in these series must be based on true, well-knows mythologies, not on local ones, because they must feel more familiar to the general public. That sells.
I do not mean to offend anyone, but proposing such weird names is ... not serious.

Quetzalcoatl is a real name, for what it's worth.
It's an Aztec snake deity, if I recall correctly.

haaha okey
Like SwampLords Ideas, but maybe without the lizard high priest thing as an elite, the lizard priests should be heroes instead.

Yes this
Quote: Quetzalcoatl is a real name, for what it's worth.

maybe with a new, better name then?
Quote: Mimic is one of the most famous (used by other games extremly well) of D&D monsters, if they use the iron bull gorgon, they can also rent the Mimic from D&D, lufia, golden sun, diablo, many games used mimics already.
so what does a Mimic do, and where in diablo are they ?

Quote: Incarnate, Darkmantle, Crimson Ooze, Marzanna, Mimic, Pazuzu.
Didn't "invent" any of those.
Incarnate is there in a dicationary among others like priest or knight.
Darkmantle, crimson ooze and mimic are from Dungeons & Dragons. Heroes 3 already had a monster from D&D, it was the beholder.
Marzanna is from slavic mythology.
Pazuzu is also from mythology, though I don't remember from which one. It's a sort of flying demonic critter.
I'm surprised you didn't pick on tlaloc . It's a aztec deity of rain IIRC.

Quote: I think the leonal creature you are talking about looks like this:
Centaur lions are known as Liontaur (from Quest for Glory) or Wemic (D&D).
that creature would fit awesomely in a savanna-faction, one of the many themes they are missing
there maybe the gnolls also could find a home

Quote: Ammit
Ancient Egyptian, appears in the Book Of The freakin' Dead (c. 1550 BC), so it's one of the oldest out there.
Quote: Loa
Spirits of the Voodoo religion.
Quote: Caplata
Not too sure about this one, although it may be a derivative of Cipactli, a giant crocodile of Aztec mythology.
Quote: Incarnate
Derived from Incarnation, meaning embodied in flesh this can generally be seen as a god in disguise.
Quote: Darkmantle
DnD creature.
Quote: Crimson Ooze
Not a DnD creature although Grey Ooze is.
Quote: Marzanna
Slavic goddess associated with death, winter and the harvest.
Quote: Giant monstrous undead Spider
May come from the Greek legend of Arachne, who was turned into a spider by Athena, although this isn't certain.
Quote: Greenvise
DnD creature.
Quote: Mimic
DnD creature.
Quote: Pazuzu
King of the demons of the wind in Babylonian and Assyrian mythology.
Yes, I was nerdish enough to check up on this.

Get stuffed, all the common stuff is clichéd as hell, so why not pull a few more obscure references out?

I like the idea of gnolls, but not so much this guy, lions are already overdone as status symbols IMO, I don't want another 'lions as proud warriors' race.

Easy fix, change the lions face/head into the that of a baboon (or something else of course )
But yeah lions are overdone especially since the academy has the Rakshasa

My guess is a swordsman, like the one on H5 cover.

Won't work, the body shapes are too distinctive.

Oh, it's not that I don't want to see lions, I just don't want to see them as a race, I'm perfectly happy with them, wolves and a few others (maybe water buffalo) appearing as 'true' neutrals (ie, won't ever join you).

What's wrong with Quetzalcoatl as a name? I think it's very fitting for an Aztec faction, quite flavorful, and all-around a fine name.

Okey you're right, I just meant that if a creature happen to have a name that is to weird the developers can always change the name and give their own twist to the unit.
Quetzalcoatl - yeah i guess the name is fine, man I need to learn more Aztec mythology. :/
