Why Jabanoss loves his Troglodytes
Just like many unit in heroes the Troglodyte is a humanoid. However this little fellow sets himself apart by being more unique.
What makes them so special?
For starters you can see that he have an entirely different posture, instead of having a straight back their heads are combined with their bodies without necks. This sets them apart from most other humanoids such as Minotaurs, Imps, Gnolls, Orcs and Goblins.(And then I don't even mention the obvious ones such as Elves and Dwarfs)
They also lives in a very seemingly primitive society, but that is not the case. The Troglodyte is just as intelligent as any other humanoid in heroes, and that is what allows them the be powerful warlocks. Making them a race of great potential and variety.
But does these thing really make the Troglodyte awesome?
All that is of course just personal opinions, but I believe he really is. That he look so completely different from the other humanoids is very good thing. In a game like heroes with so many creatures and units around things like variation is of outmost importance. Same thing goes with his "primitive" appearance. The troglodyte clearly shows that just because you are intelligent doesn't have to mean that you live in fancy castles with golden armors. The Troglodyte is a perfect candidate to unite the forces of the underground and he does so by having his own unique style fitting the Overlord and Warlocks of the underground.
Overall thoughts about the Troglodyte
The Troglodyte is so lovable because he sets himself apart from all the other races in heroes. He does so by representing variation and uniqueness, he as a unit might not have been so special. He was pretty weak and only had immunity to blind. But as a race and heroes the Troglodytes were the most memorable race in Heroes 3 in my opinion.
That we would see him return as a race in a future Heroes title with setting in Ashan seems highly unlikely. But the idea of him return as a neutral unit is too awesome to even hope for.
The Troglodytes should return one way or another, they are too awesome not to be included...

Well they are pretty much the only creatures in the whole HoMM mythos that we can actually call our own.

Serpent Flies too, I think? Though I would rather ignore them... Hide them somewhere and blame King's Bounty or someone else for creating them.
H6 has come up with a lot of new cool creatures though. If you don't like them, well, it can't be helped...
H4 and H5 did have a few of their own designs too.

You like the H5 pit fiend more than the H6 one? (at least in terms of concept)

About creatures I would love to see again (note: I don't know almost anything about mythology and don't care if something I say doesn't make any sence):
HoMM3:
- Gorgon (I like it, don't know why. But they were really hard to beat in H3 since neutral ones grow very fast for a level 5 creature. And somehow I think they would fit well in Stronghold)
- Roc (Probably the creature I miss the most in Ashan. In a world full of gigantic monsters, weird demons, and full of magic, why there's not a single gigantic flying beast? Well, who knows if they don't put it with Academy - somehow I believe it combines with the arabian theme of Academy)
- Medusas (I simply don't understand why they didn't made Medusas instead of Coral Maidens. I mean, Medusas would also fit Sanctuary, the "watersnakes" faction. Well, if Coral Maidens can someway paralyse enemies, then I don't mind not having medusas )
HoMM4:
- Mermaid (She could be a neutral related to Sanctuary - we need creatures that are scary not because of their strength but because of their magical habilities. And Mermaids are one of these creatures).
- Sea Monster (I don't like the design, but a sea monster of some sort is actually what we need as a boss related to Sanctuary)
- Nightmare (I like more the H4 design than the H5 one, and since centaurs in H6 look more like an horse than H5 ones, it makes more sence to have nightmares similar to H4 ones)
- White Tiger (For a bigger variety we also need some "small" animals too. Wolves were great in H5, they could be very dangerous especially if combined with the Phantom Forces (they helped me a lot in the mission of HoF campaign were I had to save Duncan), I hope to see something like them in H6 - maybe Panthers ).
HoMM5:
- Rakshasa (I like having them, don't like to have to fight them . Probably just a must have in H6 if Academy comes back, since most of people think they are one of the best additions in H5 )
- Hydra (I love their design in H5. But I would like to see one with 8 heads (one for each square surrounding them except 4 behind them).
- Wights/Wraths (I love the creature that personifies Death, even if it's cliche)
Well, but I wouldn't mind if they bring back other creatures (or create new ones), just hope they don't bring back devils. Never liked their designs, and somehow they don't actually have a feeling of "the most demonic creature there is". If they want to bring Devils, better bring something more monstruous and interesting than the H6 Pit Lord. I would rather call Devil to the H6 pit fiend than to the H3 or H4 Devils.

No offence but Rakshasa was the lamest creature in H5 imo. In H6 it's the radiant whatever thing.
--------------------------------------------
Why let's say Blizzard kept the main units and characters from WC1 in WC2, WC3 and WoW, while in HoMM they feel like doing recreation every time.
They need to just "forget" this Ashan misunderstanding and turn back to the old M&M universe.

Actually, on this forum, the Rakshasa was voted for the best creature in the whole series.

That's an awesome list Nightterror!
I agree with most of it with only a few exceptions like the mummy, nightmare and druid.
However why don't you like the H2 version, they were cool in my opinion even if I didn't use them so. (I have only played H2 for like an hour tops.)
But cool list, I might do my own later...

I'm thinking mainly about the Troll.
I guess the Medusa, Mummy and Genie are as cool as their H3 counter parts.
And you pretty much covered what I think about the H2 Druid as well.

Bone Dragons have been iconic to the Necromancer faction since H2.
The H6 "champion" is a friggin' joke compared to the Bone Dragons terrifying presence. BEHOLD, the joke that is the H6 Necropolis faction!
Zombies are SUPPOSED to be mindless easily controllable vassals of the undead. This is also the reason they, and skeletons, are among the lowest creatures in the Necropolis hierarchy.
