No non-d&d game may use that creature.
So it never gonna see daylight in any non-D&D game.
Their most copyrighted creature, but it's a pretty leaky copyright since it's almost certainly Lovecraftian in origin, and indeed bears a decent resemblance to the Cthulhu.

Look at the Heroes VI Discussion Thread...
I'm just mentioning it here because with the inclusion if this image there, the predictions are being narrowed down.

So that's goodnight Vienna for my dreams of an academy faction, that'd be quite sad .
Anyway considering it has to be something new, its better to think other tips that the christmas tree can give us. Maybe a sylvan-dungeon mix.
Shiny decorated race stuff maybe ? Oh sorry, we have haven for that.
Anyway guessing is boring, but if its really a race which reminds us of the christmas tree, i'll remember your comment .

Of course if its a tree like this :

Then it would be some kind of beer-loving faction now that would really original. Thank you Mehmet Altın for your contribution .

Alright we might want to stop this before 1)nighty becomes more exposed 2)I lose my patience. The occasional joking around is cool and even encouraged but this forum is getting too negative lately. I will not allow that, sorry guys.

The Naga seem to be going for an Indian theme which makes sense considering from what religion/"mythology" they come from IRL. Obviously though, that doesn't mean all creatures need to come from that such as the Medusa which is from Greek mythology but could also be a Hero I guess similar to how the Sea witches are heroes in Warcraft 3 and have their iconic medusa-hair.
They look very civilized and I guess this means that they will stay true to their original description as very wise and not seeking conflict etc. It seems like they will be a nice counter to Stronghold, they seem to be the opposites of each other.
Obviously, they are going to be associated with Water magic. Atleast.
This is my hope Naga/"Sanctuary" as I like to call them.
Core
Kappa - Kappas are not from India but they still fit very well was an early creature for Naga. It would be interesting to introduce some Far eastern creatures to HoMM which pretty much only draws inspiration from mythological creatures in the Western world.
Apsara - The Apsara are actually related to Water elementals and are nymphs of the ocean. They were seen on the Christmas tree. The Apsara is more of a support unit.
Basilisk - This time, the Basilisk is more serpentine and aquatic. This great and popular H3 creature finally returns, three games later. The reason that I made the Basilisk core, is that I want to open up more doors for the Makara to come into HoMM and more spotlight on the new creatures. I also did not want two reptilian aquatic beasts at the same level.
Elite
Makara - The Makara is a deadly but sacred aquatic creature that is related to Shalassa. They look like a mix between Crocodiles and Hippos.
Medusa - This time, the Medusa is actually a title for a Naga. She keeps her ability to turn enemies into stone though.
Samurai - This is based on the super awesome numerous male Naga warrior concept arts we have seen in the past. I will cry if we don't get him. xDD Unfortunaly, the Naga seem to look awfully humanoid. ;(
Champion
Rakshasa - The Rakshasa from H5 was voted as the best creature on HC and returns to become the Naga's champion in H6 similar to how the Pit fiend turned out to be Inferno's champion. The original Rakshasa actually comes from stories in Hinduism in India so they certainly fit the theme.

One of the things I want with a new faction is to introduce some completly new creatures to the franchise that we have never really heard about.
HoMM has always been very focused on creatures and units from Western culture, religions and mythologies and I think it would be very interesting to expand now. Asia has tons of possibilities for new creatures.

Xerox: Don't think that's something that can easily be done in the internet era when everyone is posting their suggestions for new creatures and factions. And it depends on the person as well, myself I didn't exactly know what a Lamassu was before that Sveltana artwork but chances are if they started to focus more on Asian creatures, I'd find them familiar from Final Fantasy or something.

Actually I think that since the Nagas are obviously Asian themed, we're kind of forced to take a look into Japanese or Chinese mythology. And I think it woul be an awsome idea to let some fresh air into the series.
Would love to see some creatures from Japanese mythology like the mentioned Kappa, a purely Chinese dragon, something similar to the Fujin or Raijin, a Kodama, Kitsune or a Kirin.

Agreed, asian monsters have their own games, most asian creatures (such as kappa and hippocrocodile) don't belong into homm based games.
I'm not really a fan of asian things in general so I may be a little bit one-sided in this opinion.
There are a lot of Asian creatures in HoMM already. But you would not know, since all you know about legendary creatures apparently comes from D&D 3.5, and it doesn't cite its sources!

Quote: Naga's, Rakshasa's and Manticores is all I need asian, the less known asian-things I rather see left out.
but this is a losing battle, everyone loves the alien-like asian stuff because they are alternative.
Quote: @Nightterror: Every creature can look good and bad. Don't judge anything just because someone made a funny pic. If the artists are good they could make any creature look brilliant.
Look on google, all pictures of kappa are eighter pathetic, ugly or just silly.
Thats more to your liking, NightTerror.

Kappa drawn for D&D. What says you now? D&D is good, right?
So other than Nagas, Rakshasas and Manticores you don't want any other Asian creatures in HoMM? That means Genies too? Ghouls as well? Efreetis? No Golems either? No Phoenix? Lamassus? No Gogs and Magogs?

Dexter, I find that the central point for the Phoenix legend since it expanded far west to Greece and Egypt and far east to China and Japan, must be Persia. In any case, Phoenix doesn't originate surely either in Greece nor Egypt, it is an Asian legendary creature.
NightTerror: Even the normal Monster Manual had many legendary Chinese and Japanese creatures, and I bet you loved them but I guess you didn't know that they were from these regions.
Bludgeon: Yes, and last time I checked, Israel and Arabic regions are part of Asia. NightTerror included that parts of Asia when she said it's ok for Manticores to be in.

I have absolutely no clue, what NightTerror is trying to say by calling Japanese and Chinese legendary creatures stupid.
If it's their bizarre appearance or abilities, then I'll have her know that such bizarre creatures existed in the mythologies and legends of every culture and every corner of the world.
Even creatures that appeared as more sensical in D&D, in the legends they were completely bizarre.
For example, the Harpy. The harpy was practically a bird with a woman's head and breasts. The only human parts on a Harpy, was her head and her breasts, and other than she was like a bird. Imagine now a bird with a human female's breasts on it? Bizarre, no?
Other famous legendary creatures had very bizzare abilities that have been forgotten in the sake of creating a more sensical image for their modern counterparts. For example the Werewolves in Romania could swallow the moon. The Vampires could live a normal life, open up business in a distant town, marry and even have children, which would be born without bones.
Just as the Harpy's apperance and the Vampire's abilities were remade to be more sensical, so could the Far Eastern Asian creatures have the same done to them.
