Windhelm looks cold, I'll give it that. I really hate the town otherwise - wherever you go, you hit a huge, solid, uncaring wall. Hence I feel really sorry that my turbo-awesome dragon-language-philologist doesn't have a shout that works like a battering ram.
Winterhold is the place for me - there's only one site worth visiting and it doesn't take running around for several minutes to find it.

Technically it has the whole College so I do not count it as not running around much . Besides, too few places to drop off loot for my liking.

I can tell you that unless you seek a specific thing, morthal isn't worth visiting, I think that dragon bridge outclasses morthal in size

Every time I pass through Morthal a dragon decides to attack, most of the populous is dead or missing; now I tend to steer clear of that place, blood-dragons have a tendancy to K.O me outright.
Edit: Also I have taken to playing in 3rd person, it seems to enhance the enjoyability of combat. (for me anyhow )

I've been playing the game in 3rd person ever since Oblivion. There are issues with the direction at which you're pointing as you are unable to quickly gather herbs from inside buckets without picking the darn thing up, but overall it is much better for melee as it avoids the bouncy motions when u are staggered or when u do power attacks. And you can enjoy the looks of your armor and satisfy your vanity.

I have to admit that the game becomes a bit more interesting when you advance enough (some 30 hours or so). It's still not my kind of RPG and it's way too repetitive to make me like it a lot but it's definitely the best Elder Scrolls game for me (with Morrowing still beating it in the atmosphere aspect). If the Bethesda people hire some external party to design the NPCs well - as it is obvious that this task is beyond their abilities - and focus more on the role-play instead of the exploration of copy-pasted dungeons + hack-'n-slash, I may even become a fan.

Woah Woah, I have to admit I underestimated the Thalmor big time. These guys are the masters in their game of deception

Actually this time around the dungeons are quite an improvement. Even though stylistically most are similar and you can find places that were copy/pasted into one another, Bethesda surely tried to make each dungeon's pathways unique, albeit somewhat similar in style and architecture.
Though you could say Oblivions' forts and cave systems looked more natural, I remember full well there were identical forts in the range betweem Chorrol, Imp City and Cheydinhal. Here, I found no zone to be completely identical.
And of course, they made some fantastic visuals this time around which benefit the exploration part. Eldergleam sanctuary is but one example.

So many bugs?
Yesterday i was during a mission for Wulfric, to conquer a fort from the Imperials. I was on a horse, and i wanted to "steep" to create a dramatic entrance, but suddenly my horse and me flew backwards and up in the skies, where i could ride around for a second before i fell down again.
And i could repeat this as many times i wanted until i restarted the game.
I have a video on my cellphone, but i'm lazy, so you'll only get the text.. ;P

What I mean is that their overall design is very similar. So far I've seen 3 types of dungeons out of 20-25 explored - dungeons with Draugrs, dungeons with Falmers and dungeons with some sort of Bandits. They could have different caverns, halls, etc., but in the end in every single case you get there, you kill everything on the way - usually without any difficulties - you loot whatever there is to loot and you get to some doped-up version of the predominant monster in the neighbourhood which guards some chest with more gold and special trinkets than the rest of the chests scattered around. That's the case with the regular dungeons at least. Those which are part of some major quest usually have much more imagination and work invested in them and I can't tell the white black and claim that they are not well-made. But they are the minority.
The Dwemer ruins are however - without an exception - an excellent achievement.

Haven't been there yet. Not sure what is the purpose of that sinister grin but like I said - there are dungeons which are much more unique than the predominating remainder and if I was the lead designer, I would have expanded them at the expense of the template-based dungeons.

Has anyone got married yet? I find all the female npcs fairly ugly... so i married Ysolda simply so i could dump all the stuff i hoard in her house.
I did find a slightly more attractive one in some small town, showing cleavage and all. Im gonna marry her once i have enough money for the mansion... just gotta find a polite way to get rid of ysolda lol
