Dragonborn was 50% off on Steam so I grabbed it and Dawnguard too. Note to others: If you buy both expansions, install them separately and play one a little before you put in the other. *MINOR SPOILERS* It's very odd having Mr. Join-the-Dawnguard show up at the same time a bunch of random Dunmer cultists attack.

Durak: You there! Vampires are everywhere, join the Dawnguard and push back the dark menac--

Cultists: RAAAR FALSE DRAGONBORN! *attack*

I tried Deadly Dragons. My level 10 paladin is helpless in the first dragon fight (Master difficulty level.) The dragon flys way too much and can one shot bite him. And his sword just kind of tickles the dragon I think.

Methinks I'll be starting over without that mod. I want my pally to be a paladin of Talos but if he has to be level 45 before he can beat the first dragon he won't be doing any shouts for a big part of the game.

I've played a lot with the Skyrim Monster mod but now I am trying the Immersive Creatures mod and liking it so far.

Dawnguard progress, spoilers ahead:

I'm running around Soul Cairn right now, and I have to say I'm not impressed with Dawnguard so far. :\ I'm going Dawnguard but I get the distinct impression the game doesn't want me to; the internal consistency of the plot is bad that route, and they're trying WAY too hard to get me to become a vampire. They're also a little heavy-handed in trying to hook up Serana with my character, but I'm guessing that would apply whatever faction I sided with.

I'm also a little annoyed at how uncreative the monsters have been so far, but I knew that coming in. Incidentally, do the Death Hound Collars DO anything?

I'm looking forward to getting Artax though. NO MORE HORSE TROUBLE! Just summon and ride.

Best moment in the DLC so far has been gently breaking it to St. Jiub that he's dead.

EDIT 7/28:

Just finished Dawnguard, and...that was it? That was the whole thing? The boss fights were nice (Vyrthur, Harkon) but we never even USED the Dragon Elder Scroll I had to buy back.

I did have a very amusing moment though. Right before the last battle, after Harkon gives his speech to Serana about oh, you horrible daughter you're just like you're mother blah blah...he then turns to you and says "And you..."

I shot him.

Apparently he's supposed to go into a long speech after that bashing you for having no morals.

EDIT 7/30:

Dragonborn spoilers!

I figured out why Gratian Caerellius died. He didn't have a wiki to look up how to do a sideways power attack.

As a side note, after going through the entire Dawnguard storyline without becoming a vampire, the game dumped it on me anyway. Something in that mine—and I'm not ruling out my companion because I brought Serana with me—made me a vampire. Except I'm still a werewolf and still have access to Beast Form. Whaa???

((Also, for some reason I can feed off Draugr. Seriously? Those still have blood?!))

I also made my first visit to Apocrypha. Fun times!

My Paladin of Talos, Talonian, has reached level 25. He's been doing a lot of questing for words of power through the Grey Beards. He is a Breton, under the Lord Stone.

His core skills are One handed(82), Restoration(75), Heavy Armor(64), Alteration (40) and Speech (41.) He wields Dawnbreaker in one hand and a spell in the other.

I'm using the Mighty Magick mod and Forgotten Spell spell packs (1-4.) Talonian has dual casting in both Restoration and Alteration for casting buffs before battles.

Perks:
Restoration: Expert Restoration, Respite, Regeneration, Necromage, Dual Casting

Alteration: Apprentice Alteration, Dual Casting, Magic Resistance 1

One Handed: Armsman 3/5, Fighting Stance, Savage Strike

Heavy Armor: Juggernaught 3/5, Well Fitted, Tower of Strength

Attributes(enchantments included): Health 305, Magica 197, Stamina 120.

Here Talonian is doing a killing blow on a dragon. The battle is a night. Master difficulty. He is still in steel plate armor, some pieces have enchantments.

Dragonborn spoilers!

Ended up reloading a save from before Serana vamping my werewolf; just recently went through the Temple of Miraak. Incidentally I figured out how the vampirism happened; if you give a Potion of Blood to a follower and s/he uses it, the game thinks you used it and gives you vampire powers if you didn't already have them. This neatly explains how I was feeding off a Draugr when I couldn't feed in the first place; I didn't, she just used the Potion right then.

Thanks for the heads up. My paladin is grudgingly working with Serena and definitely does not want to become a vampire. Here he is at level 34 in dwarven armor (with a dwarven circlet instead of a helm.) He has just killed his first mechanical dragon (added by the Immersive creatures mod.)

I have the Hearthfire mod and am using "HearthFire - Windstad Manor - Fortified and Upgradable -by OH" and "Guards on Your home -hearthfire- Updated" which fortify the Windstad Manor nicely. For a nice sum of gold. Talonian spent about 50,000 on what first mod adds (the second costs nothing) and still doesn't have everything built that is possible.

As for the manor itself, Talonian has been building everything himself, improving his smithing skills quite a bit. The furnishings for the first floor and second floor, including the exterior, is almost done but the cellar has not been touched yet.

Dragonborn spoilers!

I'm currently trudging through the Dwemer ruins with Neloth. Telling him I needed to find the Black Books was fun; he was practically squeeing at the thought of TWO power-mad Dragonborn running about.

On the topic of Dragonborn-the-first, Miraak stole a dragon soul from me, but I've currently cleansed three of the stones so far. I've also been digging up pirate treasure while wandering around and additionally I ran into the Mead Hall and am doing the questline for the Rieklings there. They're cute, but they make me want to play with subtitles on as I can only understand about half of what they're saying.

Edit 8/5:

Apocrypha again! The level design there is very impressive, though I'm at a loss as to what use the font of X things are. Maybe they're more useful to someone who doesn't have double digits of all the Ultimate restoration potions for Magicka etc?

Haven't gotten to try out my new power yet; all three sounded really impressive but I ultimately when with the Unrelenting Force boost; the Fire boost sounded fun but generally if I want to conjure something I'll cast a Conjuration spell. And that's usually at the beginning of a fight rather than the end.

Dragonborn ahoy!

Bralsa's quest is depressing. Hey girl, I got this big Nordic ruin I want dug up, here's 500 gold to go work on it. No? You still want to drink your life away? I reopened the mine you know. You could do that instead. STILL want to die of alcohol poisoning? Really? Why??? *frustrated* I can convince the barkeep to let her slowly kill herself, but I can't convince her not to!

Also, for some reason my Steam play time reset, so it thinks I've only been playing for 3 hours instead of multiple hundred.

Those look nice. My paladin is now using
Lost Paladins of the Divines Wrath Armor, minus the shield since he goes one handed with a spell in the off-hand.

Dawnguard Paladin Armor Reborn is another style of paladin armor.

For an elf I'd consider using this:

I'm not going to retire my paladin but I'm probably going to start another character soon. Something like this:

Class: Mystic Archer
Core skills: Conjuration, Alchemy, Archery
Secondary skills: Alteration, enchantment

Once he gets the bound bow that will be the only bow he uses. Poisons will augment the bound bow to hopefully keep it viable in the endgame.

I have the "Throwing Weapons Redeux" mod so throwing potion bombs will also be used (they are supposed to scale with alchemy) but I've never tried them so I don't know how well they'll work.

I really don't want to turn him into a stealth archer. Alchemy is a main skill so he'll use an invisibility potion if he really needs to vanish.

I have not decided if he should wear robes or light armor.

Make him wear some templar esque robes, and then make him summon this over the clothing.

Will look well with the bound weapon theme.

...

Personally I've gone back to Oblivion. Going to go for an Imperial character completely focused on Alchemy... wearing leather clothing and a knife only.

Wandering around, picking roots and flowers, if someone jumps him he'll give a quick slash with a paralysis poisoned dagger, then hit again with a damage fatigue/health poison and watch the enemy try and get up on his feet only to tumble down again due to negative fatigue.

Just feels so good to do that. Also he'll enhance his stealth capabilities with invisibility potions and stuff. Alchemy is just so veratile in Oblivion. Will use Mercer's Ingredient Overhaul to make alchemy more balanced... rare ingredients will have über-effects, while your common mushrooms will at most heal a bit.

Fun times ahead.

Thanks, that bound armor mod looks nice.

The Mystic Archer was actually an idea I came up with when thinking about how to make a character that alchemy was important to. There had to be some way of delivering the poison (throwing potions are too expensive to make to be used exclusively.) And I did not want a character to be turned into a stealth backstab/bow build. And my paladin is all melee with no ranged so I decided to go with archery for a poison delivery system. And I've not used bound bows before so, a conjured bow it is.

I found a few druid mods that add some spells. I'm going to try out the conjuration ones to give my character more of a druid flavor.

The mod looks interesting. But in the comments some folks are saying the bow is overpowered. Maybe they were playing on lower difficulties though. What do you think about the bow?

I looked at the forum and see the spell tomes are scattered all over the place. Unless they can be found with a quest marker or bought somewhere I'll probably miss many of them.

Edit: Oh, I see there is an "easy tomes" file. Yeah, I'll probably get that one. I don't mind "working" for the tomes, and would prefer to, if they were quests for them or something.

Not very balanced at all if I recall correctly. As for spellbooks I usually just add whatever spells I want via console commands ^^

Might wanna use one of the different druid mods then.
