What the hell? Kane readied his legs against the bottom and shot out of the water toward the edge of the pool. He landed in a half crouch, his hand locked around his knife buried in the sand.
"Not enough shadow here for you to kill me, Melony. This place is all sun, better give up any attack." he growled at the girl, and then looked over at Carrie just a few feet away. "Sandstorm." he whispered.

Ouroboros started chuckling until he saw Carrie get up and glare at him. "Oh son of a-"
Carrie yelled at him, "YOU!!!"
Carrie then summoned her powers and pushed Ouroboros into the pool with her telekinesis and tried to drown him. Ouroboros counteracted it with his own telekinesis, lifting himself up out of the pool and back onto land. He then wrapped her up in a telekinetic prison, leaving her immobilized.
"I got her incapacitated, Melony." said Ouroboros. "Nothing to fear from this one anymore. Now you can go kill Kane all you want without this little nympho getting into a temper tantrum. Augh! I got water up my nose!"

Again, she gave the joyless, bitter laugh. "Do what you want, Kane. The only way I could ever stop you would be by killing you, wouldn't it?"
She waited for him to put his pants on. "Now then. Explain everything, all the lies you told me, why you murdered all those people again and who this b*tch is. And you better hurry, I won't wait forever."

Kane looked at her and tilted his head slightly. "I think you know exactly why I killed those people. I needed to get his," he nodded toward Ouroboros, "attention. He would never take someone who just posted a message on the tv seriously. I had to show him I was serious. And about the casulties, well, if the police had done their job the area would have been clear of any civilians. I wanted to get to you, one way or another I wished to free you of him, or at least get close enough to see you were okey."
He looked over at Carrie. "She is an old friend, one could say. From the first Supervillain War. The act you caught us doing, well it was purely physical. I haven't been with anyone in over a year and neither has she. It just happened."

Melony closed her eyes and sighed at him. "Not good enough. If she is 'Just physical' then what am I? 'Just psychological' or 'Just emotional'? How about 'Just gullible'? No, Kane. One more try. If you knew or cared about me at all, you would never have gone to such extreme measures to find me. I am not worth another person's life. So try again, and don't you dare lie to me."

Kane shook his head and closed his eyes. "It's the truth, Melony. That's how I work. I don't care if you don't consider you worth more than another life. As long as you mean more to me, I will kill a hundred men or women if that's what it takes to save you. You're not just phychological, but we have too different views on the world for you to understand the way I act."

She was silent for a long while. "You're right." She said at last. "We are different. I like to take things slowly and logically, while you take everything to the extreme. There are lines that I would not cross, while you seem to go out of your way to find laws, morals and customs to break! Hell, if I told you that it was the only way for you to get me back, you would probably murder this woman on my command!" Melony spat.
"But that won't be enough. She is nothing to me, and I will be able to forget this nobody quickly. Unfortunately," She looked in Kane's eyes. "you do mean something to me. Once it was something good and pure, I though of you as my friend. Maybe more. But we are too different. You said it yourself. Maybe we'll meet again under... Happier circumstances." She turned to Ouroboros. "Take me back. I'm done here."

Kane looked at Melony, his eyes cold and distand from all human emotions. "I'll be seeing you, Melony." he said and nodded at her. "That is for sure. Our paths will cross again."
He looked at Ouroboros. "Next time we meet it will end with your death. Take care of Melony until then."

Ouroboros replied, "Of course."
He telekinetically flung the knife into Carrie's stomach, leaving her bleeding profusely. He grabbed Melony's hand and they returned to her room.
As they teleported away, the hold on Carrie was released, but she fell to the ground quickly and started crying and screaming in pain.

Melony walked over to her bed, numb and uncaring. "Thank you, Ouroboros. I... I need to be alone for a while." She flopped limply onto the bed and just stared at the wall blankly. Now all I have left is Miasma... And I'm going to betray it too, aren't I? This shredded the last of her resolve and Melony broke down into tears, crying herself into blissful sleep.

Kane sprinted to Carries side and pulled his pants off in the process. He bent over her. "I need you to use none of your powers, ok?" he took a look at the knife. "You're lucky, this is not necessarily lethal. You may well survive this.
He pulled the knife out slowly, making sure not to cut any deeper or hit any vital organs, then hurried tying his pants extremely tight around her slim waist to stop the bleeding. "Really stinks that we're in the desert, there's no ice for you." he muttered, and ran over to the pool to get water for her.

Ouroboros sighed and teleported away. He changed into his casual wear and teleported to Switzerland. This much teleporting drained him of much of his energy. He barely had enough to teleport back. He bought the most expensive and most delicious chocolates that he could find in Geneva, then teleported back into Melony's room, where she slept. He crumpled to the ground, breathing heavily from exhaustion and weakness. He put the large, beautifully wrapped box of chocolates on Melony's nightstand, and then passed out unconscious on the floor next to her bed, close to death...

Melony heard the loud "Thud" as Ouroboros hit the ground. It was enough to wake her up from her near-coma of power and emotional drain and bring her into a sharp wakefulness and realization of reality. Kane must hate me... Good. I don't care anymore. She looked at Ouroboros again. He did so much for me... At least he brought me there so that I could... "Ouroboros... Are you really the monster everyone says you are?" She whispered. She looked over at the box of chocolates and decided that, if he was, then he was more honest and better than half the people she knew. And she was no murderer.
Popping one chocolate into her mouth, Melony rolled Ouroboros over so that she could grab him under the shoulders. She looked at his exposed face for a few seconds. Well now, I think that you could pass for a human, Mr. Big dark and scary. Probably go as far as saying attractive. She hauled him with all the strength that she could onto the bed. When she failed three separate times, Melony remembered that she could bend shadows. Using them, she easily lifted Ouroboros onto the soft bed. Tucking him in, Melony decided that she would try to look for some kind of porch to stand on or window to open.
