Yeah I think you're right. My arguments only hold water from my standpoint of not really caring about town screens very much.

saying that town screens are not important for you personally is one thing!
saying that new town-"windows" are better then the town-screens we had before is different!
and i am sure that no single person would prefer the new ones over the wonderful town screens we used to have in the previous HoMM games!!!
It's like offering a photocopy instead of painting!!! and that's Crap!!!

So, the latest interview just confirms what we already knew, but for those doubters out there, here is an OFFICIAL statement on how the town screens look right now:
Quote:
How far along is the town screen, and will it be animated?
Marzhin: "We know there is a lot of confusion and worry in the community on this subject. Here is all I can tell you about the current town screens at this point:
- The town screen is actually a town window. It is designed to remain the same size whatever your screen resolution is, even if you use a 16:9 monitor.
- The town visuals will be animated and are what could be described as "2.5D".
- Each town has its own musical theme (as usual).
- The town visuals change when you build stuff (although in the current design, not all buildings appear).
- Building and recruiting is done through the window interface, rather than clicking on the buildings directly."

wait. so its a town window, but at the resolution of the screen... ... ... doesnt that make it a town screen? lol.
His description sounds acceptable to me actually. I really did like what they did w/ H5 town screen but whatever, I can live with a well done 2.5D town screen/window. Emphasis on the well done.

The window stays the same size irrespective of your resolution. That means that the bigger resolution you have the tinier the screen will appear. (At least that's how I understood it)

Yeah I can't see there being any radical changes to the basic fixed resolution window interface at this point. I hope it's done well enough to capture my imagination in its own way. It's not an unthinkable prospect, but we'll see I suppose. Not the end of the world anyway.

Absolutely ridiculous.
I just had to register here to get that off my chest.
Town Screens are one of the most iconic elements in Heroes of Might & Magic. The main thing I remember from the older ones ARE the town screens. Not the maps, not the way skills were learned, not the way you acquire resources, no -- the mysterious swamps of the Fortress, the lush forests of the Rampart and the skull castle of the Necromancer. Yet instead of paying attention to iconic elements, they choose to spend more time overhauling things that were already fine.
I followed the development of new HoMM games since III, and when they decided to cut out half of the series classics in HoMM V and rape the original atmosphere, it didn't even bother me half enough to post a complaint. I even bought the game. But this? I can't believe they made this decision. And with a FAN on the team, for God's sake. Bah.

Might as well not even have a town window and just have a drop-down menu on the adventure map

Pathetic indeed. Sadly it's Ubihole's (Ubisofts?) choice to reject money from potential customers. Reviews will be worse and some sales will be lost cause as said over and over: for many, town screens were essential part of HOMM series.
But thanks for your effort anyway, DW. Nice fighting spirit!

It's a shame that many of those who did not pre-order the game because of the town window issue will not be able to report about it in the beta testing. I would gladly wait until after the summer if that's what it takes to finish proper full screens. I don't even demand interactive buildings, just give us a full screen!

Vice versa is also true, I'm limited to a 1368x768 rez (which is also common in many laptops) because of the ahh ... TV I use as a PC monitor, so it's a scary thought if it's at 800x600 rez for me is ok but to small for 1920x1080 and if it's 1024x768 it's ok for hig rez but killer for lower rez because we'll be left with two adventure map bars left and right, and I don't want to think the whole 4:3, 16:9/16:10 aspect ratio ... quite a mess they made of it hope they'll be able to make a good compromise to satisfy everybody

Ye know what's going to happen once we get our greedy little paws on this?
My prediction is that people will regardless of it's quality and polish continue to hate it purely because of the bad impression they've built up so far, or because they secretly don't mind but are to immature to admit it.
Is it going to suck? maybe, yes, I'm not very fond of it, but try to keep an open mind, it's not set in stone that it's going to be a complete disaster.
Seeing as I bought the virtual complete edition pre-ordered from steam, by the 20th, I should be able to give people an impression of what it's really like. (bearing in mind, Beta is Beta)
I'd say the safest frame of mind at this stage is:
Open-minded pessimism.
If we're just going to rage nobody will take us seriously.

I agree with Mr Dragon but I suppose that's what these forums are for, for people to voice their opinions. If someone rages about something, they'll be seen as a raging member. If someone says something clever and profound, they'll be seen as wise.
I just wanna give my views but ultimately I still wanna play Heroes VI so badly! Wake up Saturday moring, light a cig, turn on my PC, get into the campaign....aaaaahhhhh!

Raging is a perfectly legitimate course of action at this point as the rage is being communicated to the developers and will be taken into account. By all means, voice your displeasure.

Well, Mr. Dragon tries to pontificate uncalled-for as usual but there is one thing in his post which is partially correct - a portion of the disappointment from Ubisoft's decisions will be passed to the final version of the town screens and even if it is acceptable, it will not be judged objectively. Whose fault is this though? Ours?
