Flag burning at LSU...
LSU student, Benjamin Haas, who obtained permission for a peaceful demonstration on LSU’s campus which involved him burning the United States Flag, failed miserably at his attempt today. Haas was only a few words into his speech when the LSU Police decided to escort him out of the middle of protesters for his own safety. While we believe that burning the USA flag on USA soil is, in itself, an act of failure that makes this video a double failure since Mr. Haas didn’t even get a chance to strike his first match before being escorted away.
Flag burning
I don't like anyone whose ideology trumps common courtesy, Show respect to others and demand the same amount of respect from them regardless of religion/color/ideology.
Is it ilegal to build a muslim center on ground zero ? No it's not but show some respect and build it elsewhere.
Is it ilegal to talk against your government ? No it's not, but show some respect to other people's feelings, burning a flag is disrespectful to all the people who actually hold it dear, it's not a move against your government but against your neighbors and friends, your fellow countrymen.
I'm not a patriot, I wasn't even born in the states nor do I live there now, but this is just an ugly act by him and also by the people who stood against him and called for his death (or whatever it was) it's an ugly and a primitive side of humanity IMO.
If you need cheap tricks as such to create controversy and attract people to your cause, then maybe and just maybe your cause isnt that just.

"Show some respect"? For what? Why do these people deserve respect? If Muslims want to build a mosque near Ground Zero, why should they care about public opinion? It's their property and they're going to be serving other Muslims - so why does anyone else matter? If people want to burn the flag, too bad for those who "hold it dear". If someone is displeased with the US and wants to express it like that, they should feel free to do so.
Unless you're trying to sell something, public opinion doesn't matter.

Well done guys, you two sure are exceptional human beings in my book becuase after all as long as it's legal I can be as much of an ass as I want to be, that is indeed a great moto in life
I'm strong and popular I should make some poor guy's life a living nightmare just because I can, it's legal after all.
My neighbor's wife was assaulted and killed in a hate crime but I should post racial slurs in my front yard for him and his kids to see, it's my yard so it's legal.
I should parade girls in tiny dresses, drink alcohol and talk smack about allah in a muslim neighborhood becuase law allows me to do so.
I should wear swastika shirts, eat pork and talk smack about holocaust in a jewish neighborhood becuase law allows me to do so.
I should walk around hospitals and make fun of those who have just lost their loved ones, I should go into oncology department and tell little kids who have cancer that they are all going to die and that soon they will be in hell... after all law is on my side hence it is perfectly ok for me to be an ass
What was I thinking when I raised an issue of actually giving a crap about other people's feeling every once in a while, that's the silliest idea I ever had, the only thing that is important is that I'm following the law.
Indeed, SARCASM was used here, in case you've missed that.

While I don't support dissent so much... Lighten up people! What is a flag? A rally point, yes, but what is a flag?
A flag is a peice of colored cloth. Colored in a specific pattern, so that is distinct among other flags. Why should you care if someone burns a peice of cloth? Especially if it is their own peice of cloth? If the guy was burning his T-Shirt, do you think he would have been arrested?
If you need to punish those who burn their flag because it shows disloyalty and a break from country pride, then your country needs something to be proud of. Something that can't be burned, prefferably, and something that doesn't cost a dollar.
Quote: I should wear swastika shirts, eat pork and talk smack about holocaust in a jewish neighborhood becuase law allows me to do so.
This is sort of illegal here... You will be arrested. You will be tried in court. You will lose.
Moral of this story? Don't be a nazi.

I don't care about the flag, I just find the act of burning flags, Qurans, Bibles as primitive acts done by "little man", it doesn't offend me however I can't understand why would anyone choose to do something that is offensive and hurtful to others ? Furthermore to people you study or live with ?
How pathetic is one's existance if he needs to hurt others to feel better with himself ? That's all I'm saying...

I don't think that people think of things like this when they burn the flag. I (like to) think that they are only thinking about what they want to change and protest it through a way that will draw attention to their cause, or if they have thought of the pain, (which I, again, don't think should be there) then they have correctly judged the problem as more important than their neigbors and friend's feelings.
Now if you are just doing it to get a rise out of people, then that is just wrong. Yes.

Yes I did, because decent human beings should show compassion towards others, maybe nobody ever showed you love or compassion throughout your life, that is a bit sad but at least I understand why you feel the way you do....
It's illegal to wear swastika shirt in Minneapolis ? Wasn't aware of that

Not everyone deserves compassion. Strangers are just strangers, after all. If it's your family or friends, compassion is appropriate. But otherwise, why does it matter?

You should be able to wear swastika shirts just fine if you're Shinto, Buddhist (certain types), or Hindu. It's a religious symbol that was co-opted. Though I'm sure you're talking about a Swastika specifically with a white circle on a red background.
The funny thing is, most people in general agree you should be nice and tolerant to other people and restrain yourself, but they themselves act like intolerant jerks on issues they simply don't agree with.
Here is an example of people following this example of using their religion of tolerance to as an excuse to harrass a muslim for... existing. This happens in other countries too. Every single group of people in every single affiliation will have a fair number of people willing to blatantly ignore any respect for people they disagree with. Period. (6:34 and 11:18 in this video)
Generally, I believe we should be respectful of others. True greatness is not using everything you're granted when it's not appropriate.

Quote: LSU student, Benjamin Haas,...
Haas is a liberal loon freak. Note I did not say all liberals are loons or freaks. He is going to a university subsidized by tax payer dollars. He likely gets a grant as a further subsidy. He hates the nation that is giving him a free ride.
Like many libs he hates the US but he wants to mooch off the taxpayers and have the US protect him. Sure burning the flag should be legal. It should also be a renouncement of your US citizenship if you burn it on public property. After burning the flag a person should be given a one-way ticket to some anti-US nation and then he can see what happens if he burns that nation's flag.
Anyways, people abusing the freedom others won and keep for them is nothing new.

But most people's actions don't have an effect on me in any way I could have influenced. If it's a family member, friend, teacher, boss, coworker, or government employee, it affects me. Otherwise, it doesn't. How does Derpina from down the street affect me? She affects me as much as I affect her: not at all. The only people whose actions have an effect on me AND my actions have an effect on are either people I personally value or those in positions of authority. Others can affect me through actions I can't influence before they do it.

Quote: But most people's actions don't have an effect on me in any way I could have influenced.
How is that even relevant to whether you should be nice to others ?
Are you Nostradamus's son ? How can you possibly know what can or can't affect you in the future ?
Here is a nice story for you and maybe you will understand the point, but then again maybe you won't...
mvASSilev lives his life, doesn't care about others, each day on his way to school he passes by his neighbor Derpina, he never says hi because, well he doesn't really care about her... five years have passed, mvASSilev has been to a party it's late and he's coming home, out of nowhere two dudes jump him, mug him, stab him and leave him bleeding on the asphalt, Darpina saw him being jumped, realized it's the lame kid who never even bothered to say hello, she went back to watch her fav tv show because she didn't care... mvASSilev died on the street after bleeding out for hours.
mvassilev lives his life, he's a nice guy who cares about others and always tries to help out, he's known as a well mannered polite kid on his block, each day on his way to school he passes by his neighbor Derpina, he always says hi with a smile because that's just how he is... five years have passed, mvassilev has been to a party it's late and he's coming home, out of nowhere two dudes jump him, mug him, stab him and leave him bleeding on the asphalt, Darpina saw him being jumped, realized it's mvassilev, started screaming through the window and called 911, mvassilev continued to live a long life, when he went to Darpina to thank her for saving his life, she just shrugged it off saying it was my pleasure....
try to find the differences between those two stories and go back to living your selfish life, keep in mind though - "what you give is what you shall receive"
