I do believe we have enough of a water town now in the form of Sanctuary.

But, you know, I made a SKY town once! It's somewhere in that thread I link to in my sig...

I agree on this, and believe that many people don't remember the good things from Homm4.

The black dragons in Homm4 were for awhile the most powerful creatures in every battle.  They looked great, and were a real pain to fight.  Definitely epic.

You mean those things that an overpowered combat hero was killing 10 by 10 ?

Yeah, I confirm people forgot all those good things from H4

That is taking things way too far. Why would Water creatures fight on land and vice versa?

Because they want to invade land territory, its a fantasy game, they can make something up.

Not as long as you don't want to have fantasy = silly nonsense

H3 Titans were small... they didn't feel like Titans, they were maybe 20% taller than pikemen

H2 ones were better in that matter

Anyway... Indeed. If Academy comes back, I hope some really huge Titan will be its boss or something. The Champion can be something else. Preferably mechanical, but not that awful dragon golem again. Come on, gremlins, tinker up something fearsome...

Everything in HOMM4 looked kinda gay, they however were a disgrace to gays, so they were more like heterosexual males. (boring and horrid)

You don't live your username + invading other territorium isn't silly nonsense, its the plot in most fantasy games.

Except when there is no reason and no opportunity to.

As said, that's taking things too far for no particular reason.
There are enough possibilities for land-based towns.

- because they want to make a point
- because they want resources
- because human skins are their most valuable trophies
- because they've been ordered to by a powerful wizard
- because they once lived and on land, awakened from slumber and want it back
- because they're actually amphibious and can travel on land reasonably well (Cthulhu mythos)

etc.

Sanctuary a water-themed faction ? As in "direct damage spells with water theme" ? Sure, very interesting. The whole point is to introduce something that plays differently. Water always inspired human imagination, and sailors were among the most superstitious folks.

Different as in Heroes can walk on water? Not that that turned out to be a really popular idea (and probably rightfully so), but I guess you can't blame them for not trying.

It's like Final Fantasy now - some motifs can repeat, but nothing is really the same.

Except it's clearly set in the same continuity as Heroes V, and everything else Ubisoft has brought out under the Heroes handle, just a few hundred years earlier.

As such, it makes sense that some things are different than in Heroes V, although a few things baffle me aswell. Like having Academy as expansion material despite the wizards being explicitly mentioned as being responsible for the Shark Warriors and the Orc race.

And the Fate Weaver bugs me simply because the Necropolis, being a faction of walking dead, really shouldn't be changing much over the years. I can see why they would want to cut down on the dragons for this game, but now it seems like no faction will feature dragons at all (unless you count the Kirin), which seems weird given the mythos of the dragon gods being just as present here as in Heroes V.

Instead we got shadow and light elementals, now thats creative...

That's what I said. Heroes from 1 to 4 are completely disconnected from 5-6, but some motifs can recur.

Agreed. That's atrocious.

Note that here the Necropolis is apparently only forming, as before it hasn't been a real country. Cutting on dragons probably has some reason as well - my best guess goes like this:
Dragons are grand creatures now, huge and not tameable, but over those centuries they'll devolve into a bunch of constantly-airborne lizards any faction has access to.

Didn't really seems like that to me. The country formed soon after the Necromancers split from the Wizards, although there always have been independent groups of undead. And we've only seen one of those in the campaign so far.

And this is about 200 years before the split, so pretty much anything goes. Of course, at this point Necropolis shouldn't even be really viable as a faction, so, meh, Ubisoft isn't even trying for consistency.

Yeah, no titans, mages, golems, hydras, elves, unicorns, dwarves, genies, trolls, ogres, gremlins, gargoyles, zombies, bone dragons, minotaurs or sprites.

I didn't even read who posted this before I knew it was you, Nightterror. Are you sure you aren't just a troll?

The rivalry between Titans vs. Black Dragons is what set Heroes games apart from all others.

With the way Heroes VI has turned out, I'm starting to feel as though Heroes I-IV were the real games and Heroes V was a glorified fan-game. Since this game wasn't even called Heroes of Might and Magic, I don't even count it as part of the series--it's just way too far removed. It seems almost like, late in development, Ubisoft and Black Hole decided to force in classic artifacts and heroes... but all it succeeded in doing was seem out of place.

I agree with the original poster that this game doesn't really have vampires. They're like what gremlins and rakshasas were to halflings and nagas--basically the same abilities, but looks completely different. I'm sorry... but a pale, caped, hunched over, black-haired man seems like a no-brainer. Not this pseudo-Arthas (from Warcraft III) clone. Who, seriously, wants a Undead Knight instead of the classic archetype? The same goes for the rest of the creatures: Heroes games were always about the classic medieval mythological monster looks... not realistic, made-up crap.

Heroes of Might and Magic will never see a true sequel to Heroes IV until Jon Van Caneghem is involved... maybe even in control of it. Paul Romero is the only thing that really keeps the spirit alive... and god bless 'im for that.

You'd start with a ship. It would be a faction with early advantage, hard to rush, but it would also have trouble rushing someone. A bit of a lurker that waits for other players to expose themselves and capture a city on land.

I wonder what ship boarding penalty is supposed to do, exactly. It only stops powerful heroes from doing hit&run attacks. It doesn't stop armies, you can use chaining to evacuate them, bypassing boarding penalty.

Hard to rush as? How exactly?

Besides, this only works if the map actually has water separating the players. That's the whole problem, it depends on what map you play on, but there is not even a real disadvantage to counteract what could possibly be a huge advantage. Not that I think having one would make it any better.

It's cool as a campaign feature (there were some maps in previous games where you could find an artifact to walk on water or even fly, too), but for multiplayer it just doesn't work.

You are talking about how dungeon, sylvan and academy aren't in-game?
Well think about it like this:
Heroes 5 did not feature one of the 4 ORIGINAL factions until the SECOND EXPANSION!
I would take my goblins any day of the week against any other faction.
Thats why I only bought it after TotE came out.
Not only that but fortress (swamp not those awful 6 dwarves and a dragon) was considered one of the BEST factions in the heroes series ( sometimes even better than H3 Dungeon) and It hasn't appeared again for the rest of the series ( with the exception of the hydra and the wyvern)

So I say wait for the expansions to be anounced before saying anything about a faction/ creature missing ok?
