I agree about Fortress. While challenging to play (but potent, interesting abilities, teleport hydras), it had very nice atmosphere.
Everyone was wet and slimy. Swamp never really had a faction before. It might have been Warlock once or twice, but I think prior to introduction of Inferno Warlock was associated with Lava.

Lava? Not in heroes though I can see why you might say that. My main gripe isn't so much the fact that warlocks joined inferno, you'll still have fun blasting things. But it is almost certain that dungeon will appear before long and.. what would a suitable replacement be? Mageblade for instance would be a cool might class for academy but dungeon.. need to proceed with caution here.

well dungeon could have overlord (like in H3) or something like a thief or assassin as might class(like in H4).
The magic class could be the sorcerer(like in H4)

That was my initial thought but what would then happen with the female magic class? Sorceress would feel so wrong in dungeon. Of course they *could* make an all magic male dungeon and an all magic female sylvan but..

Let me say, having played all the Heroes games since I was a child, I was really skeptical of this new Heroes at first. The factions were all wrong, the ability and territory idea seemed unnecessary, but after playing the beta alone, Heroes seems new again for the first time since. I'll be awaiting some familiar creatures and nods to the old games in future expansions, but the new dragon, the Kirin, is just new and exciting where a Black Dragon would be cool, but nothing we haven't seen.
I DID NOT THINK THIS AT FIRST. How can you have a Heroes game without the minotaur? How can you dismiss giants and titans? But, honestly, the new stuff makes it feel like a new game, and there are STILL plenty of nods to the old games, especially the music, WOW! Every new element is intriguing.
Heroes 5 felt like old Heroes games, turned 3D, with new takes on the universe. That is cool, sure, but it's still the same old thing with the same flaws. Give it a shot, I'm having a blast.

While some monsters are classics, we should also be open to changes. These are some creatures I will NOT miss:
Minotaurs (very boring in H3-5), green dragons (I think dungeon's dragons are enough), unicorns, lava dragons, bone dragons, ALL elementals and ALL these damn humanoids (humans, dwarves, elves).
It's ok to have some troops be soldier-like, but in H5 dungeon and fortress were atrocious. The shadow witch has got to be the most bland, boring generic garbage creature I've ever seen. Harpies were so much cooler than blood maidens. I also loved tryglodites.
I think treants actually could fit as level 7's, if you made them big and looming.
And maybe the chimaera could be introduced to dungeon? Would be similar to the manticore, but cooler (with the multiple heads). How about manticores upgrading into chimaeras?
I do not like the sound of more elementals though. I haven't heard of anyone who likes them.

I don't dislike elementals. However, shadow and light elementals are kinda overdoing it.
And I don't see why they felt they needed to get rid of every dragon just to introduce more elementals instead.

Because 2 of 6 elementals are just re-used models of other units, so a third of the job was already done. They don't have a unit that closely resemble a dragon, so they didn't have anything to take a model from when doing a dragon.

The Kirin isn't a dragon? But it perfectly fits the definition of one...! It is a rather asian or early medieval depiction of a dragon, though, perhaps that's not your thing.
The only way that The Kirin isn't a dragon is the same way a spoon with a bent handle is no longer a spoon.

Which is pretty different from the dragons we're used to from heroes (large flying wyrms with a breath attack, that hits 2 creatures in a row)

I'm not even sure if the Kirin is even considered a dragon within the setting. I guess it would work, much like the Fire Dragons in H5 that looked very different from the other dragons.
For that matter, I definitely wouldn't mind if they gave the green and black dragons more distinct looks, but since neither race is in the game we don't know if they even exist anymore.
Quote: * Will we have dragons in the factions?
In the original H6 no, only as a boss. However that doesn't mean that there won't be factions with a dragon champion in the future, like Marzhin remarked some factions just cannot exist without a dragon in their lineup
Well, guess there we have the answer.

The old Black Dragon vs Titan is still miles better than the Angel vs Devil thing.
Overall I agree, I'm not much into dragons either in fantasy. Except in HoMM, but maybe that's because Warlock has always been my favorite faction.

The only way The Kirin is not a dragon is if you don't think oriental dragons are dragons.
Big flying serpent breathing elemental power seems to fit the bill, although I agree it's not your typical Heroes dragon. It seems to be hinted we'll be getting something along those lines in the future from the source above, though.

I actually really like the dragon mythos they established in 5. Yes, they probably overdid it a bit with the dragons as T7 creatures, but even then we only had four dragons out of 8 factions, even though they could've easily used it to excuse dragons in all of them (except Academy and Stronghold, I guess).
They also kept it consistent here, which makes the lack of dragons so strange to me. I could see how some factions didn't yet earn their support, but they don't even exist as neutrals, excluding that boss.

I also liked the Heroes 5 Mythology, and I think as long as they keep the concept of a "dragon" fairly loose, it works fine for me - for instance, you could interpret Angels as 'Light Dragons', and I also think Kirin ('Water Dragons'), Magma Dragons ('Fire') and normal dragons are sufficiently distinctive to merit their place in the game.
One can argue whether we needed both Red/Black Dragons and Green/Emerald Dragons (we probably didn't, at least they didn't succesfully establish the difference between the two), and while I think the Bone Dragon was a pretty good creature, mythologically there's room for dispensing of it here, as it was never really an incarnation of Asha.
But the new feature of bosses leave room for pleanty of Dragons still, or rather as associated neutrals, as I wouldn't mind seeing them appear (like we had in Heroes 4).
