Normally elves sucks, but they have unlimited potentional.
I want them to be lethal savages, living deep the forests killing everyone daring to venture there. I want them to be less noble and more hostile.
But yes we all know that isn't going to happen... :/
Btw, the elves in Warcraft used to be cool. They are also cool in the Elder Scrolls, just sayin'.

I would like to see Dungeon and Academy, I think they're the 2 most interesting factions of the 3 (assuming that Dungeon won't be filled of elves).
But because these two are the most antecipated factions, probably we will see them in different expansions.

You guys do realize that Dungeon is the douche-elf race, and not the Heores 3 awesomeness anymore.
So why would u vote for that crap. Sylvan and Academy all the way!

Well, even if it isn't an H3 Dungeon, I would prefer to see a minotaur and an hydra than an unicorn, which is an horse with a horn, and a pixie, which probably will/would be a small green glory. Besides, in H6 Sylvan probably won't change the creatures from H5, while we have at least the chance to see something different with Dungeon. But that's my opinion. Also, "douche-elf race" is an expression that can be applied to the Sylvan too

They've clearly done away with a lot of these disliked sides of the game, and are really listening to the fans. The elf overload was one of the most hated things in H5. I think it's safe to assume we won't be getting a faction with 4 elves, and a Black Dragon with elven ears; and that wasn't even the elf faction.
I think Dungeon will be the reptilian faction with one or two elves thrown in to match the lore, or just to include the elves in general.
My guess is we'll get 7 factions, one for each of the schools of magic; Academy as Air, Stronghold Earth and Necropolis Primal, the others are obvious. They might of course include Sylvan as Earth, say Stronghold is Air like someone said Ubi said, and have Academy be the unaligned one, as their lore states.

Stronghold supposedly is unaligned to elements.
In fact, the answer is pretty much given on the pictures of the Dragon Gods:
Prime - Necropolis
Chaos - Inferno
Light - Haven
Darkness - Dungeon
Fire - Fortress
Water - Sanctuary
Earth - Sylvan
Air - *none*
*none* - Stronghold
*none* - Academy

I fail to understand this attitude. For me Sylvan, elves are people leaving in harmony with nature as opposite to real humans eating and destroying everything they see around. Too many elves in Sylvan faction ? But what you want people, no brain army composed only from beasts and monsters ? It's not realistic. Real army have horses, dogs, elephants but they are lead in battle by humans (in our case elves)... Dogs, elephants and horses to win a war alone ? Main weapon of any army is brain not brutal force.

Yeah, I relly liked Sylvan as a faction, and I don't think the Elf overload was massive. One can argue if the Sword Dancers were perfectly executed, but I don't think the idea was that bad. Obviously they would have to make some changes: Dragons would be an unlikely Champion, which would probably be Treant promoted, and Sprites would have to be replaced by something new (unless they make yet another re-use of the Glory model  ), but overall it was a nice faction imo.

Let see this from a bit other perspective :
If player want to be in game savage way, use brutal force he will go most probable with orcs faction.
Other category will go with inferno or necropolis because they want to be evil way, lead in battle monsters etc ...
Medieval like people will go with Haven faction.
Orientalists will go with Sanctuary.
Magic good oriented player will go with academy.
Magic evil with Dungeon.
Now were will go environmentalists like myself (in real life i sell pot flowers) ? To play savaged Sylvan or Sylvan protectors of the wood ?

Joking aside, I think most peoples' "problem" with the sylvan faction isn't the concept but the execution.
Homm3 had wood elves too, but they didn't have that vexing "Look how attuned with nature we are" mentality.

Let's see... Heroes I & II Sorceress, Heroes III Rampart, to some extent Heroes IV Preserve. 1 elf, many nature-lovers, somewhat good variety. Not really great but still bearable and believable enough. A bunch of feminine wannabes who braid their hairs and the manes of their unicorns before going to battle on the other hand is way too much for me.

Unicorns is associated in my mind with "The Chronicles of Amber" of Roger Zelazny, he named even a book from this series "Sign of the Unicorn". Very beautiful creature of nature, delicate, protector of realm, sacred ... Light bringer ... Just in place i say ...

I know what unicorn is, thanks. This one I can stand and to a degree even like:
... And it stays true to the myths. Compared to it the mount of the Heroes V Ranger looks like something which a girl (8-14 years old) will ride. Says enough about the rider.

I find it wierd that everyone is complaining that H5 Dungeon had a BDSM theme but Matriarchs were actually the only unit with that theme :/ I would appriciate if someone could tell me what is the SM side of Hydra, Dragon, Minatour, Assasin , Raider or Fury?
