Kane listened to news while eating a slice of bread. Simba laid on the floor next to his feet, its chest moving slightly as it breathed steadily. It went to sleep when Kane woke up, usually, which meant it could do pretty much whatever it wanted whenever it was awake.
A recent killing terrifies nearby neighbors. The man looks as if he has been burned alive. Police suspect Super-involvement and... Kane shook his head. It was clearly the work of Inferno, the pyromaniac. If the boy didn't keep a lower profile he could possible kick off this war by himself. Vigilante justice and protecting supers was alright, as long as they managed to make it look as if anyone could have done it. He shook his head. Not his problem, he would outlive any of them he expected. Except maybe Vlad.
Maybe today he would contact Melony again, let her know he was alive? The thought haunted him daily, but he didn't dare. You are too afraid she'll hate you for not appearing earlier he thought with a dry smile.
At least next time she was around he would not sneak away. With that he grabbed his long coat and hat, strode out the door and started roaming the streets.

Father Geofreid walked to Cardinal Anis's room. The man had told G9 that he had important information about the war against the darkness. That somehow man had created it. This struck too close to home.
Anis would have to be dealt with. Putting its gun in place, G9 strode to the Cardinal's personal chamber, where it was told to meet Anis.

"Young? I am legal, woman. Besides, two wars can do a lot to your age inside. You should know at least from one." replied Jon as he put the pack of cigarettes back down on the table. He finished up with his current smoke and tossed it into the fireplace. "So, how have you all been? It has been a while, hasn't it?"
Cardinal Anis sat at his desk, two Swiss guards beside him. He stood up as father Geofried entered. "Ah, welcome my brother. I trust that you have received my message?"

"Yes. We didn't really get the chance to meet or talk for long last time we met. I've been well, though the damage done to me by G9 was... extensive, I've been well. You have been well I assume?" Melony set down the ash tray and started breathing normally again. Secondhand smoke could kill everything with lungs, even non-humans.
"Indeed. Could we, perhaps, speak in private?" G9 said.

Jon chuckled and said, "As well as one can be in this position. I understand you two have been hermiting up in the mountains. Not very good for Lisa though. If she had gone to school or something she have retried at going for a normal life. But ever since her @ss of a brother came around, I suppose she'll never get a 'normal' life. Right, Lisa?"
"Of course." replied Anis as he waved away the guards. He then turned to Geofried and continued, "I am some questions about your...work. As I understand, this war against darkness you have seems to have some roots in mankind. This is no ordinary project you have going on here. A few deaths? The Vatican can manage that, but what you have is going too far. We are not the corrupt church we once were. Our goal is salvation and peace, not what you are doing."

"Well, I like to think that 'hermiting out' in the mountains is better than playing soldier for one of the three men tearing this city apart, which is what I heard that you were doing." Melony quickly fired back, "And I didn't force Lisa to come with me. I asked if she wanted to stay with me and she said yes. She can leave any time, as I made clear, and I will help her with whatever she tries to do. She just..." Melony hesitated.
"I need time to adjust, is all" Lisa finished for her. "Nothing wrong with that, is there?"
"What I'm doing?" Geofried asked softly, "What I'm doing will create peace everlasting. Cardinal, you do not see what I'm trying to do here! The world must stand together if it is to defeat the evil that oozes to society's surface." His face took a contemplative look, "Like that city in the US, New Constantinople. The Americans are having trouble containing the evils there. They obviously need our help, but to give it to them, we need to be unified here." His expression returned to the present, "Now, what do you mean by my war having its roots in mankind?"

Jonathan grinned at Melony's flushed face and replied, "Do you know how many delinquents and petty criminals we have taken in and disciplined? Take Rob for example. He wasn't exactly a criminal so much as a peeping tom. That sight of his is quite something. But we diverted his resources from staring at naked women across the city to securing our hideouts and acting as a scout."
Jonathan stood up and walked to in front of the fire and then said, "Felix doesn't want a war. He is just trying to build up power so that he can rule a little underground empire. However, his control over the Secret Fire is waning. The secret is falling back to the shadows and the fire is taking over. Who do you think really controls this little organization Felix so kindly created? He doesn't want a war. I do, and the others do as well. It is time we be become recognized as a fully fledged force of freedom. For us. For the so called 'supers'."
Jonathan picked up another cigarette and put it in his mouth. He snapped his fingers, and it lit up. He smoked the cigarette for a couple of seconds before taking it out and continuing, "You don't want a war do you? You just want to live out the rest of your days quietly. Well that's what we want, but the governments of the world and the normals will not have it. We plan to kick them out of New Constantinople and have the city for ourselves. A haven for all supers. Ordered. Just. Fair. And segregated from the humans. The age of heroes and villains is ending. Now it is us and them.You could live your life here with Kane peacefully. I ran into him the other day. He's got a couple scratches here and there, but overall he is doing fine. You should pay him a visit. So long as you don't try to kill him, I'm sure he would enjoy some company for once. We would all enjoy your company. You can stay or go, but if you do go, then you are no longer under our protection. Neither would Lisa. If you are not with us, then you are against us. Make your choice carefully."
Anis shifted uncomfortably and replied, "There have been rumors that this darkness you are talking about is man-made, and also that this little war you are enacting is also based off of the projects of man. It has most certainly piqued my interest."

"If by 'Ordered, just and fair' you mean that the strongest rule then yes, your little society will work perfectly for you!" He wanted this war? What kind of hero had he been if he was willing to cause this much suffering! "How many millions are you willing to kill, Inferno? How many men women and children? How many innocents Johnny? How many! The world's governments will not just 'Leave you be,' they will see this attack as a threat to the world! Their armies will come, and they'll keep coming until either you are all dead, or until you hurt them badly enough that they will not try to bother you again." Her eyes began to glow faintly, He's thought about all of this already, damn him! Well did he think of this?
"And do you know what the worst part is? You're leading your new people into a war that they could not be prepared for! Kids like Rob will be the first targets, since they are your eyes and ears. Next will come the leaders like you. How many assassins do you think you can survive? How many attempts on your life before one man gets lucky? And if you fall? What restraint will your 'better' humans show to the world? Even if you win this war through some miracle, how long do you think peace will last after you have died, whether it's by a successor, age or revenge? Your people will go to war again." Melony shook her head slowly, "I will have no part in your cause. You've already considered the possibilities and decided that your 'Utopia' is perfect, and that your bloody, damn war is the only way to get it. You can live with yourself, but I couldn't. So no, Johnny, no. I'm neither for or against you, I want no part in this war. I only want to save people, but that doesn't matter to you does it? What will you do to me now?"
-Melony, at this distance I can severely weaken him and drain power from the child. If we take advantage of his surprise we could take him now! We should strike before he is ready!-
No, Miasma. I will not push a fight here, not if I don't have to.
"Of course, sins and evil are man made. But I don't think that's what you were talking about. You mentioned something about an American project from the seventies?" Outside the Cardinal's window, small strands of shadow picked up the gun that G9 had brought with him. He had been sure to position it so that none of the guards would notice a random gun sitting sitting on the Cardinal's window sill. Slowly it began to rise...

Jonathan turned back to Melony and replied, "I don't think you quite understand who you are talking to. I started with fire, but it is merely a crude expression of the power I hold within me. Let me show you."
Jonathan raised his hand, the palm open before him, and the cigarette pack on the table rose and landed on his hand before freezing into a solid block of ice, which Jon then crushed within his hand. "I am much more than simply Inferno. I am a destroyer..."
He opened his palm again to reveal the pack inside completely intact. "...and a creator."
The pack then disintegrated into ashes as Jon lowered his hand again and continued. "This is but a taste of the potential I have yet to unlock. It will not be long before I find the catalyst and become who I was destined to be. The normals will either accept my strength, our strength, and join us, or be doomed to be trampled underneath the stampede of progress. I would hate for you to be on the losing side, Melony. I will let you go free for now, but know that the next time we meet, it will not be on friendly terms."
"Yes." replied Anis as he turned to look outside the window, then noticed the gun rising in the air by shadowy force. "WHAT IS THIS! GUARDS! HELP!"
Two swiss guards came in, no longer armed with halberds, but with assault rifles.

Melony stared at him for a moment. How does that matter, John? So you can create and destroy, so what? That doesn't make you God! She almost yelled that at him, but held her tongue. Making him mad would do nothing but force a fight, and she did not want one. Gesturing to Lisa to follow, Melony left the basement without saying another word.
Outside, she told Lisa, "Let's go to Kane's old apartment, get some money, and then go home. We'll talk more there."
Jumping up and feigning shock, G9 jumped when the trigger to the semi-automatic weapon fired three times, shattering the window. Anis jerked as each shot hit him squarely in the chest, and then the weapon turned on Geofried. G9 ducked below the Cardinal's desk as the last of the clip emptied itself into the hard wood. As if annoyed at not hitting its second target, the shadows whirled, slicing up the gun into indecipherable scraps and fading back into the walls. Bullets that the guards had fired at them fell to the sill as the shadows faded.
G9 stood shakily, "They... followed me. How could... guards! Tell the rest of the Vatican what happened here, it is not safe for me to stay. This is not the only assassin they will send after me..." With that, G9 fled the building, waiting until it was well away from prying eyes and cameras to smile. An hour later, it came to a well-policed and populated coffee shop. Ordering a vodka, G9 was led down to the basement, where his oh-so-helpful and willing prisoner was being held.
Reprogramming Geofried's brain to keep him hidden and mute, G9 left his host's body. It nodded to its two minions who were standing guard over the chamber. "He doesn't leave. Keep him well fed and safe. But my little friend here..." It cast a baleful gaze to Felix's ex-minion, "we have a little appointment to keep with your former employer. Such a weak super as yourself would not have gone missed yet, and if you come bearing gifts then all is... excusable. There's just one little thing that's coming that you might not like." G9 rushed the bound prisoner, oozing into him and becoming one entity, -Me.-

Jonathan bowed his head as they left and then called Rob in. Rob came in looking disappointed. "Rob, I need your eyes. I must find the catalyst."
"But, sir, we've tried this at least a hundred times. It's not here!" replied Rob stubbornly.
Jon growled and telekinetically tossed Rob against a wall and held him there then yelled, "YOU WILL DO AS I COMMAND!"
Jon released Rob, who crumpled onto the ground. Rob got up, wiped the blood from his mouth and then bitterly said, "Yes...sir..."
Rob's eyes glowed brightly as he looked all around him. At first it seemed like he wasn't getting anywhere, but then he noticed something. "Sir...the catalyst. I didn't find it, but I found something with a similar signature. Its...Lisa..."
Jon smiled in victory. Lisa is the key. The terminal he came last year needed a key. Now he knew what the key was. Her blood. "Very good, Rob. You are dismissed. You may go about your business now."
Rob, expecting some sort of reward, sulked away grumpily. He admired and respected Jonathan, but the man was becoming obsessive and dangerous. Felix seemed a more benign leader, if less powerful.
Jon turned to smoke and flew up to where Melony and Lisa were. He stood before them and said, "Before you storm off completely. There is something I need."
Jon drained heat in the distance between his hand and Lisa rapidly, creating a spike of ice to shoot up from his palm and penetrate Lisa's shoulder slightly so that the wound was superficial, but there was plenty of blood on the spike. Jonathan telekinetically summoned the blood from the spike to his other hand and froze it into a red ball as he restored heat to the ice, turning it back to air. He then cauterized Lisa's wound and said, "My apologies, but it is rather important."
Jonathan then twisted and disintegrated back to ash and smoke. He then made his way back to Zero's mansion.

Vlad looked at Archon and lovered his gun.
- You did your homework, I congradulate you. However, I see taht US goverment still fails to gather intel correctly. First, my PMC goes by the name of Iron Bears. Second, the mercenaries I employ are sent to world's hotspots, and have never saw action within NC nor have dealt with anything surrounding me and you. and third, if you think that you can hire me for the US for a funny sum of 20 billion, me, who fought for the ideals of communism, then you comrade are a bolsoj debil. Jasna?- Vlad laughed at archons face. the integrated voice augmentation twisted the laughter, making it sound surreal and unnatural.
You can call it crime, I call it vigilante justice. 900 billion comrade, and lay down ALL the details. poniel?

"900 billion? It is obvious you are not taking this seriously, then." Replied Archon as he walked off for a couple of paces.
Suddenly, several silenced shots went out, and Lena fell to the ground. There were holes in her armor, but no blood came out. Several more shots went out and Vlad was hit this time. Again, his armor did nothing to prevent most of the shots. Obviously, this was high-grade weaponry in use here. A single shot went off and the mechanical creature with them was hit. It shuddered as its movements froze and it could not move.
"You have about five minutes to live, actually more like ten since you are made of stronger stuff, but the nanobots inside these bullets are deliberately destroying all immunities you currently posses as well as shocking your nervous system, making you immobile." said Archon. "Apparently, your toy seems to not be working under it very well either. And the girl...well, its only a matter of time before she dies. So either take the deal or die."

Vlad stood up, feeling heavy pain from the wounds.

"We'll see just how much you take then." replied Archon as he raised his hand for a second wave of shots. All of the sudden, men started flying towards them from rooftops and hidden cars surrounding the area. Someone was lifting the government snipers out of the air, down to the park. By the time they all landed, Vlad recovered from the bulletwounds, which were relatively light as most of its penetrative power was wasted on the armor. Smoke descended from the skies and twisted in turned with fire, forming Inferno. Archon panicked and quickly turned large and blue as sparks of electricity danced upon his body. Inferno sent a large wave of fire at Archon, who defended himself with a shield of energy. Inferno then changed tactics and froze Archon's feet in place, then shot up spikes of ice at him from the ground. It took all of Archon's power to resist the spikes. Meanwhile some of the government agents got up from the ground and began aiming their weapons at Inferno, who quickly made the guns explode in their faces, killing some, heavily injuring others.
However, the distraction allowed Archon to regain strength and retaliate. Inferno and Archon were then stuck in a deadlock, each unable to do anything more without giving the other an upper hand.
"Vlad, 900 billion it is!" yelled out Archon. "You got a deal, just kill him!"
"Vlad, my friend, help me!" said Inferno. "You belong with us, not the damned government! All they're going to do is betray you later on! You should be with us!
"NO! You would be a hero to us! You can only benefit from being on our side, the winning side!"

Melony watched the rapidly fading ball of gas and heat. "Damn you, Inferno." She pulled her keys out of her pocket. Inferno's territory, was this? And Kane was here? Melony threw they keys to the bike to Lisa. "Get in, set it to auto-pilot and set the course for home. When you get there, block the door and set the security systems online. Do not leave until I come back unless you have to." Darkness began to swirl around Melony's feet, "Go Lisa, it's about to become very unsafe for you." Lisa looked at the keys in her hand uncertainly, "Go!" Melony whispered, urgent. Lisa ran to the bike, turning off the traps and starting it up.
Miasma?
-Yes?- Her companion asked.
Find Rob for me. We're going to need to... solicit his help.
-Simple enough... and there he is. Projected casualties?-
"Everyone that gets in my way." Melony marched quickly down the path Miasma had given her, quickly breaking into a series of short sprints.

Rob sat at a table in the basement where Jon had met Melony and Lisa.
Lisa...
He thought about her and fantasized about what he could do to really impress her, like somehow using his powers to save her, but his powers weren't anything great like that of Jon's. Not that it really mattered anymore. What little hope he had of striking up something with her vanished when Melony stormed out on Jon with Lisa. But now Jon needed her blood to find the Catalyst. Knowing him, he probably had it already, so Rob knew he couldn't do anything about it. But what could he do? Rob struck his fist against the table in anger, when he saw Melony running...towards him?

The basement door fell into splinters. Wherever guards that had taken their positions when Lisa and Melony had left or supers who had been watching them the entire time had come hung suspended, bleeding and struggling in a wall of shadows. Melony panted and they all fell at once, rather worse for the wear and drained of most of their power. Melony coughed twice through her pants and marched into the room. "That was... draining. Now Rob, I'm going to give you one chance to willingly help me, and though I'd rather not hurt you I will go out of my way to get what I need. Do you accept?"

Rob's eyes widened as he saw Melony there in front of him. He really hated himself at that moment for not being able to actually make a choice on the matter because of his lack of offensive power. But, he then thought that maybe this is a good way to get in good with Lisa...
"Yeah!" said Rob a bit too eagerly as he stood out of his chair. "Ahem...I mean yes."
