I have an NVidia card in my machine as well (GTX560), and I've only crashed twice on accessing a town screen during my recent playthrough (all the original campaigns plus the two DLC's). My drivers are up to date; Windows took them along with a Windows update, for some reason, so when I saw it started installing them I was worried for a bit that it might affect M&M:H6. But I found it working rather smoothly while I was playing through it. Running Windows 7, 64 bit, by the way.
I had more issues with Uplay bugging out and it actually kicked my connection out more often than I crashed on a town screen.

With me it's the fort screens that crash, not the town screens and I have a GeForce GTX 680 2GB RAM....so yeah NVidia.

None of my cousin's other games randomly freezes due to Nvidia, but anyhow...

And the upgrade is called "The Angry Mob", equipped with torches and pitchforks?
Special ability: stampede. The Angry Mob walks across the battlefield, damaging everything in its path. Enemies along the path get pushed aside.

I only have frequent crashes (2-3 per gaming session on average at totally unpredictable moments), never freezes in H3.

As Elvin said, that is a Valkyrie. And as Storm-Giant surmised, it is indeed a Fortress Unit. I believe I have explained the nature of them in the Lore and Trivia thread some time ago.

You're right, I should read deeply that thread when I finish examns.
