H6 had good graphics and animations, so I thought exploring the map was cool, it was just the monotonous skill system that made battles really boring...where you used the same skill over and over (like pressed attack)...
For me the graphics wheren't enough to make up for its flaws. Yes the skill system was bad.
But the 3 tiers of monsters usually made creeping boring. It also felt like there was very little to do on the map. Few buildings to visit etc..
Don't really see any reason why i should bother with H6, its a slightly better looking then H5 but in return has less content and a flawed/boring gameplay.

We should make a new, subject-changing topic where we discuss a single aspect of the game every week,
what we think of it and/or how it could have been done differently.

HoMM 7 needs good backers as well.
AFAIK, M&MH:6 had fairly low priority compared to some of the more popular Ubisoft franchises.
Yes turnbased games has a low priority because they usually don't please the big crowd. I guess thats why they went towards more competative gameplay.
Ubisoft better shape up or the will run the HoMM franchise to the ground. they need to care about their product and not just make changes because it might please the mainstream crowd.
But even with a mediocre budget could be enough to make great HoMM game, aslong as they have clue of what makes a good Heroes game.
I just hope they'll ruin the HoMM franchise so much that they'll consider selling it off to *perhaps* at more deserving developer/publisher. It's extremely unlikely that I'd consider buying games from corporations with bad business practices today. Like, EA, Ubisoft, Activision, Microsoft, and so on. Screw them. The Kickstarter concept are the way of the future. It'll help start up new dev teams that'll actually bring new/old concepts into the mainstream stagnation/degeneration. VCMI is HMM best bet, though.

That won't happen any time soon, though. Ubisoft is very committed to Ashan and developing it as the "Fantasy universe" of Ubisoft (that's why they keep making spin offs of M&M).
We have to live with Ubi vision of Heroes or...

With the H5 skill tree i would be completely locked in to this game. With the current world of warcraft-skill-tree its just no magic there to be found. Such a shame shame shame.

I am in constant fear that it is myself growing too old for this, but still my conclusion is that its the games fault, its not me. Yet...

Don't worry your not. Its the game.
I thought the same about hacknslash games when I couldn't enjoy Diablo 3.
But then I tried Path of exile and just realized it was just that Diablo 3 sucked.
Like Storm Giant said we have to live with Ubisofts Heroes products. To be fair H5 wasn't that bad. I just hope that future Heroes games struggles to be top notch and they make changes for the sake of good gameplay and not for the sake of reaching out to the casual crowd.
And please god get a new art style that doesn't look like a mix of warhammer and Warcraft.

This so much. I'm sooo tired of graphics like this. I call it 'teen graphics'. Maybe that's not fair to teens, maybe it is. lol. It's definitely mainstream graphics, though.

Yup so many fantasy games has a similar art style. Makes them all look too the same.
There is no bold thinking from ubisoft to experiment with the look. Sadly alot games do this.

I think we aren't going to see big changes on the art of Ashan for the next years. Ubisoft team spent a lot of time & resources on stablishing some rules and basis, as it can be seen in the Ashan Compendium. They won't throw away all that effort.
For me it isn't a big issue, I can live with the current art.

I only got in the game, playing v 2.1.1 and still have issues.
Leaving the fundamental falws of the game aside I just can't believe they issued the game all this time ago only to treat initial buyers as betta testers and actually claim their money for a product that is barely semi decent (from a technological perspective) one year later

That's how Ubilol works!
On a more serious note, the situation wasn't perfect. Have in mind originally Nival was supposed to develop H6 - but they rejected it, so Ubisoft had to find a studio to make H6 with not that many time left - and something (or maybe a lot of things) went wrong in the relationship between Ubisoft and Black Hole (don't forget BH employee post).
I think BH is also to blame of the low quality of the game.

No doubt BH is to blame for all this also but when this game brings your stamp on it you have the definite accountability.
anyway, Ubi officially abandoned the game so there is no need to discuss anything further.
Saddly this may be more than a failed instalation of the franchise.
Let's wait abd see

It wont survive another h6.
Havent played h6 at all (only the demo), wont bother if h7 is the same snow. Also i dont trust ubisoft anymore, dont know how did they managed to do that. Heroes was my favourite franchise.
Those guys may actually "cure" my gaming hobby .

Both H4 and H6 where really bad. The big question is what Ubisoft will do now.
Will they just make another lazy sequal? Or get serious and try to give us something great.

I agree on this. A lot of the "true" fans are very angry towars Ubisoft after H6. The community will be very cautious towards any game developed by Ubi from now on. And some won't care at all.
To me eyes, anything but a continuation/improvement of H3 or H5 would be a suicide
