Well, this is not true, first. People with enough good skills can change/fix the game, see H3 and wog team. All you need is a dedicated leader with reverse engineering skills. I recall Bad (user HC) did some hex editing for H4, being able to overcome some flaws, but then he quit as there was not enough audience.

You really still believe that somebody will change h4 after 10 years of nothing? Is this make that people back to this game? I don't think so...
My point is that you can surely complain about game or try to find real pleasure to play it because it's really great game.
Of course random map generator and other stuff would be nice but let's be honest that's only dreams.

Why Heroes IV is the best game in the series
Is it mean: put all your problems with the game here?
My point is that if you hate this game and don't like it - move to another thread or simply stop playing it.
I can only repeat - for me the game is great. Very deep in tactic with many possibilities of development - that is why playing on the same map can be different in 100 games - dependent on factions, artifacts and other things on the map.

Discussing problems with the game is relevant to whether or not the game is the best in the series.. but if you think it's an OT issue, then why do you discuss it at all?

I wouldn't say Heroes 4 was the best however I am very fond of it. It is one of only two of the franchise that I come back to and play time after time, the other being Heroes 2.
It had alot of innovative ideas and was treated unfairly upon initial release, it's fun to play and a different take on the genre. I just feel it was left a bit unfinished in some areas and I can't help but wonder how good it could really have been if the devs where to spend more time and money on the project instead of rushing it to release, it may have been the best of all who knows

It's a great but flawed game that, had a few important things been better developed like the AI, might have competed easily with Heroes 2 as my favorite in the series. One thing is certain: it's the last innovative heroes game (fundamental changes and risks taken).
The adventure map looks truly wonderful, so alive and animated, way moreso than the fully 3d maps of the series even!
Heroes 4 certainly doesn't deserve disdain at all. Now those last two unfortunate titles ...

I read many bad opinion about h4 but last two heroes confirm that staying with 4 was best choice
