But casting Slayer when there are no level 7's is completely useless, even you gotta admit that.

Maybe Genies just aren't the most proficient magicians around. As opposed to the hero they take part in the battle and in the heat of the moment there is just too little time to recall which spell has which effect.

Possible bug in HOTA 1.54 map editor

I don't think this has come up so far--at least not that I could find. I'm using HOTA on the Gog version of HOMM3 Complete. h3hota_maped.exe opens normally and has no problem creating a map. However, if I try to create a random map, it starts the process and then freezes. I tried selecting different configuration options, but those choices made no difference. I tried running it as an administrator, and I tried using compatibility options with earlier versions of Windows. None of those things made any difference.

The random map generation process accessible through the new game routine doesn't appear to have any problems. It's only the standalone map editor (which provides far more options) that refuses to run in random mode. The game itself runs fine, which suggests to me this is a bug specifically in map editor rather than a more general installation problem.

Thanks. Oddly enough, I couldn't find any reference to it on the internet. Presumably, I just wasn't using the right search terms. I thought perhaps it had been introduced in the most recent version, but I guess not.

Hi,

I'm stuck in the "Lord of the Ring 3.2" map. This map is just the best I ever played with.
I was carefull not to edit the map with hota mapper before I play, so the map is still sod version => because hota map editor for instance will make unavailable the spell "Dimension Door" if unavailable in the Map specifications/spells. This behavior from the hota map editor prevent the player from having the "Dimension Door" spell even if it's temporary and mandatory to progress in the scenario.

But I still playing this map with hota 1.5.4.
Everything worked quite well except for some artifact. For example, the shipwreck survivor in [5,72,0] make the game crash ("Hideous mask" or "Ring of suppression' artifact very often) or the derelict ship in [23,9,0] reward is the "Hideous mask" or "Ring of suppression" artifact.

So, everytime the game crashed, I just reloaded the last saved game and just don't get the shipwreck survivor or derelict ship that caused game crash.

But, now I'm stuck after beating Thandruil in [115,42,0] (orginal place in the map) or [96,33,0] in my current saved game. Because that guy would loot a "cause-game-crash-artifact" or something => the artifact must be "Loins of legion" according to the map editor.

The line "Def 'artifact.def' draw from 4EAF17. group = 0, invalid frame = 156" describe the crash.

So I tried to :
- edit the guy equipment with an hex editor in the saved game but I can't achieve that (I'm lost).
- edit the saved game version to play with sod or wog but I can't achieve that (I'm lost).

So can you help me with that ? Any ideas ? Other ways ?
Maybe if I could copy/paste the missing artifacts in _HD3_DataCommonArtifact.def ?

This map, as you know, is made for SoD. And this map is also mini-mod because it has its own artifacts.def that ovveride artifacts.def located in h3sprites.lod. HotA has also its own artifacts.def file that override the same file in the same time. To play safely this map better delete artifacts.def from Data folder. Of source, there will be some graphic inconsequences but without crashes.

Thank you avatar, you saved me like 4/5 hours on this map and x hours to solve it. I can't believe it was so easy...

For the moment the only side effect is the Ring of life not looking like THE ring anymore.

Question : Hota is looking for an artifact X in artifacts.def located in h3sprites.lod but this file is override by HD3_DataCommonArtifact.def and the artifact X doesn't exists in HD3_DataCommonArtifact.def ? So by deleting HD3_DataCommonArtifact.def there is no more override (and no crash consequences because this file is only cosmetic) ? Is that it ?
Hota have few more artifacts which can be randomly given to players and so if HD3_DataCommonArtifact.def doesn't have those artifacts it crash ? But something is weird, some artifacts have the wrong sprite but does not crash the game. It's like some of them can be replaced and so of them can't...

i would like to ask HotA crew/administration, or somebody who knows

so i was playing Skirmish template on L-U and ran into Angel Wings artifact. although later on i acquired Air Book and both DD and Fly spells were not present

how do you explain this? must be a bug, i would think so

Angel Wings is an artifact. Can be banned or not. DD and Fly are spells. Can also be banned separatelly from artifact bans. So, in your example - Angel Wings is not banned, DD and Fly spells are banned.

Flying with Angel Wings is not flying via Fly spell.

thanks for clarifications. then again, my question was leaning towards the 'why' aspect, because i thought all templates were modified up to HotA standards, as announced

so i'm gonna still stick to the fact that it's a bug or unintentional error. why then would you disable DD/Fly but leave Angel Wings?

Tournament Rules were enabled by the way

May or may not be an actual bug, but version 1.5.4 won't install while the game is still in the 'Program Files' folder. Is there any way around this? I'm not overly keep on reinstalling the whole game for the sake of getting the latest version of a mod, fun as it is.

No. HotA doesn't work properly in Program Files folder; there were many bug reports caused by this problem; so finally this way of installation was resticted.

Any idea why the problems cropped up only in 1.5.4? 1.5.3 seemed to work perfectly in this regard.

it's from _HD3_Data/Templates folder

so only templates from HotA_RMGTemplates folder have DD/Fly disabled on lesser than L-U size and Orb/Cloak/Wings disabled by default?

what about Diplo?

I don't know if this is a bug but it is possible to cast Anti-Magic with the Cape of Silence present. Also, Master Genies seam to be able to cast  any spell in it's presence, didn't tested with Faerie-Dragons but I think it's true for them also.

Anti-Magic is a level 3 spell, Cape of Silence only prevents level 1 and 2 spells.

Bug report:
Playing HOTA with HD mod on Win 10.
Random map - islands, no underground, 4 player, hotseat

Cast View Air spell works fine above ground.
Click the underground button.
Game crashes.


Hero1 found Summon Boat spell scroll.
Tried to give spell scroll to Hero2 by standard exchange process between two heroes.
Game crashes.
