No, it will be tweaked and balanced until the very end.

I think it's a pretty standard trope of fantasy though, not something GRR Martin invented ^^
What I had in mind when I wrote this description was actually the desert regions of the old Might & Magic RPGs, such as the Invading Desert of MM1, the Desert of Desolation of MM2, Forsaken Sands of MM3, etc. I even used "blistering" to describe the sands because I always loved the name "blistering heights" in MM3 ^^
Yea, I didn't mean to imply that the description was very much based on his work . But with the increased popularity of GoT, and exactly because of such tropes, seeing similarities is easy...even if said similarities are either intended or purely coincidental. Just like the Dark Watch in the Dungeon Town. To me, it looks like Sauron reincarnated. That eye on top of that tower...coincidence or intended?

Budget and management? Hm, quite odd that it is said *now* rather than before we got silly animations or the automatic town building/skill wheel features.
Not only that, if it is claimed like that, why re-using models many did not like - black dragon, lamasu, assassin, vampire, lich (though the latter two were replaced with new arts)?

Ubisoft sure throwing their weight and their faith behind the Might and Magic brand right here, never mind that Mr. Chosker would probably have a more lucrative time working in his local manhole than with Limbic under Team Erwin lol

Silly animations are something the animators do for fun, it's like their recreation time, not actually part of the budget.
There's no automatic town building/skill distribution feature, and such a feature was never even planned. That was Stevie's idea of a joke, he said it himself.

But I definitely remember something about an auto-skilling feature, that I didn't made up.

That, if I remember, was said that allows new players to level-up their hero automatically.
In my opinion, that should be just reserved for tutorial.

OMG, this budget must be ridiculously small, only 2 full new factions ?! Even HVI had 4 factions with every new model and still they say that the game has proper budget and to not worry about it haha

Choosing to reuse this or that model was a compromise reached between many people, including Erwan, the game designer, the producer, myself and others. Personally I had nothing against the H6 lich and vampire (although I do prefer the new ones), but then I have nothing against the idea of angels being cyborgs either
I did suggest we do a new Black Dragon, both because of the fans' opinions (which were abundantly clear from the VIPs) and because I felt we had seen the H6 one too much, but in the end for a variety of reasons it was not possible.
One thing that needs to be said is that Heroes is, on one hand, a very expensive game to make (tons of graphical assets and animations to produce, much more than in Civilization for instance), and on the other hand, it is a niche game, with what some would consider very old-school mechanics (it's turn-based, for a start), and it's only for PC, where piracy is a real issue (I've experimented it firsthand with MMXL, so trust me when I say it is painful). Long story short, we're not getting the budget of Assassin's Creed (for instance) because Heroes sells 10 times less than Assassin's Creed. It's as simple as that.
In the last decade or so, the cost of assets has skyrocketed to the point where making a new Heroes with the kind of old-school turn-based gameplay we all know and love without recycling is simply not viable anymore. It is sad, but it's the truth. We had to compromise, which is never pleasant but cannot be avoided, and went for 4 recycled units and 4 brand new ones in 3 of the factions (Haven, Necro and Dungeon), and completely new art and animations for the other 3 factions (Stronghold, Academy and Sylvan).
I wish recycled H6 units could have had the same level of redesign as the Haven units (same animations and "bones", but new meshes), but it was not possible in the end due to the outsourcer increasing its costs.

It was not auto-skilling, the idea was that the game would make suggestions for new players to help them build their heroes. A bit like the tech research in Civ. But it would only suggest things, not pick them automatically.
But in any case it never went past the idea stage. I do believe it would be a good addition for newcomers though.

A bigger budget doesn't make a difference at Ubisoft
Sorry dude, I respect you, but that was just too... too Ubisoft screws any game regardless of budget

can you reveal why these statements are being made on the eve of the final beta test and not at any of the many opportunities where it might have been appropriate in the past year?
why was it decided to try to mislead people about the Necropolis reuse?

Thanks for taking the time with this answer, Marzhin.
Was using the H6 type of skill system as a starting point for the new skill system also a matter concerning the budget and all the other factors you mentioned? (assuming that I am right and H6 system was indeed the base for H7). Or was it just a matter of choice from Ubisoft / Limbic (due to preference or other reasons of the kind)?
(just to make things clear: I', talking about the non random / partially random skill system, opposed to the classical skill system - as we know it from H2-H5)

This ^^
How could you just mislead people in cold blood, when you knew all the time that you will reuse so much of HVI units. How did you people feel when players on SC were cheering for black dragon and return of Medusa and you freaking new that you will just repaint old models?

As I wrote above, we wanted the recycled units to be more than just a repaint. We tried to find solutions til the very end.
