@Marzhin or Ubi-Nox
Could you please explain why you make hero-specialization something that doesn't exactly support the hero-class almost in every case?
-Darkstorm is governor hero, with skills that aren't for governing
-Eruina is morale hero without access to morale-skill
-Sylsai warmachine hero without GM
-Yeshtar atk boost without access to offense
-Sorshan again governor hero without much governing
-Yrris... same old, same old...
Basically you limited dungeon hero to be:
-Lethos(poison master, does 40 dmg per turn which makes it useless in longer games)
-Sinitar extra skills for your GM(must be a mistake, right???)
-Yrbeth boost for dark magic which is GM, another mistake, right?
I think that was all dungeon heroes... Now all you're left to do is choose the hero according to map. Lethos will be great for short games. Sinitar will be good for short/medium games. Yrbeth will be awesome for short/medium/long games... Hmm... Yep I think I will go with Darkstorm and make him semi-useless governor and main-hero, Totally!
Seriously it feels like you threw for most heroes/factions the specializations out of a hat without any consideration how it would work. Why does academy hero have +6 fire-magic and only expert fire-magic possibility??? Another hero that can max it does same it not even more damage. And why doesn't academy have access to all spell-schools as GM since you got 6 classes??? Haven that is more of might team has spec for +4 general magic power??? There is major pattern of broken specialization with only few exceptions that have merit. What was the train of thought on these?
I know a lot of people complained about this too after the first demo(still can't bring myself to call it beta), yet you did nothing for them. Sylvan seems to have the worst hero specs of all factions, nothing I would even want to play with truly. Are you going to do anything about these things or are you seriously trying to say that only probably dozen heroes in the entire game are something any decent player would truly use? All the rest are just trash to fill in hero-slots or governor role...? You spoke of wanting to give players the freedom with the skill-system, yet because we are limited to 5 skills and GMs are very very very very very strong, we are left with 2 skills of our choice... Except if you take hero with skill spec leaving you with essentially only single one skill of your own choosing... Please explain to me/us WHY you have made most heroes non-viable main heroes and how this system encourages the freedom of choice you were so adamant about in your skill-article???

Marzhin please the heroes' specials reduced heroes to mere portraits.
None of the skills is any useful after the first 10 minutes of gameplay. It's absurd!!!!!!
They really need to come up with better skills. Brainstorming shouldn't take more than half an hour.
Re-use the old specials from heroes 5!! I mean come on!! Coding-wise I don't know.
Dude there is no point selecting any hero at all! They feel like dead empty shells for you to put in your army.
CHANGE THE HEROES' SPECIALS!

Keep in mind I'm not one of the game designers, my job revolves around levels and story, but as far as I understand two things happened:
- on one hand, it was a choice from the game designers to make specializations less important than they were in H5 for instance. Because of the class system we have in H7 (with 3 Might classes and 3 Magic classes per faction), the class is actually, in many ways, your hero's true specialization. What we currently call specialization is more of a "quirk", something that sets the hero apart from other heroes of the same class in the early game, but is much less important than the class in the long run. I think part of the issue is the fact we still use the name "specialization" where it should really be called "starting bonus" for instance.
- Specializations were chosen very early on, based on the hero's bio or his past specializations (in the case of returning characters), but the classes and the precise set of skills they would grant were not set in stone yet. When I say "chosen early on" I'm not talking about specific design, just a general direction like "Tyris = Cavaliers".
I agree that a new round of iteration on specializations is much needed now that all ingredients are finally in place. I can't promise it can be done for the release), but I will definitely push the topic. Now it won't change the general philosophy behind specializations, but at least we can try to make them more useful and more fun.

I still consider H7 a "best-of album" of Heroes, but I agree it's "our" best-of album. I believe every fan would make his own best-of album, each of them different from all the others. And they would all claim to speak for the whole fanbase
The moment you make a "best-of game" you can just as well can it. It's a crappy idea in the first place - and that isn't even considering the fact that you cannot just take features of very different games, slap them together like Frankenstein's monster and expect them to become a beauty queen; or the fact that I don't see where the skill and magic system is a best-of.
In my opinion you need a fresh perspective, a new element or angle to develop another iteration of a game; "best-of" is the exact opposite of that.

@Marzhin
When and why did you choose to make unique neutral creatures like Shantiri titan and Gold dragon and leave black dragon untouched?
Why would expansion factions get entire new line-up when voting victors got only half?
Why is every dev, when giving explanation about reused models, saying they would rather polish the game and add more features when art has completely separate budget as you said?
Why, after so many complaints, some creatures are still so out of proportion? Deer and spider are huge and Black dragon is tiny.
Can you disclose what we lost when we got new Vampire and Lich?

Work on these units were done before the votes even started. Outsourcers had not yet increased their prices.

Not a separate budget, a separate column in the budget. But the total budget remains the same. So increasing the art budget would have meant eating away at the other columns. For the Vampire and Lich we were able to negotiate an extra to redo the models, but that's not something we can pull off every time.

i assume that it has to do with Dungeon being the last faction that started developement. Probably the neutrals were made before it.
In the case of a faction added with an xpack, that wouldnt be the case.
I also assume the models were more or less designed to be that scale and that if they were made bigger some would "spill" from their respective squares but i havent really payed attention to screenshots in a long time so idk.

I just wish we were informed and have this open conversation from the start so our expectations would be adjusted accordingly.

Had the outsourcer not suddenly increased its prices, we would not have needed that conversation at all. Best laid plans...

Her character art is the same as in H6 if that's what you want to know.
Here's her bio:
Eruina is a true daughter of the legendary Queen Tuidhana, and the half-sister of Menan, the current Lord of the Clans. But she never points up this brilliant lineage. Proud and independent, she doesn’t side with any particular clan, and would rather be known for her own achievements than because of who her mother was.

Aw exactly the same? that sucks
I didnt know the menan part. And its nice to confirm she is clanless.

By the way are Shadow Sorcerers and the Dungeon magic hero and and the same? Were H5 Matriarchs retconned into Shadow Sorcerers?

I just spent almos three hours of playing the beta. It was my first time playing as I had not pre-ordered the game.
I am just wondering...is there any possibility that the shadow/black dragon will be modified in terms of size?
I mean SIZE, not design. I know it's not practical to ask for a brand new design, but I am wondering if it would be difficult to just resize the dragaon.
I don't know much about game designing, but since you already have the model, wouldn't it be quite simple to resize the unit with same deisgn? Would this still cost a lot of resources?
The dragon indeed looks like a tiny minature dragon.
I encountered the shadow dragon on the adventure map, and it was actually with titans. On the battle map, the dragon was in the middle with two titans on each side, and the dragon looked AWFULLY small compared to titans.
In fact, when I attaked the dragon with my minotaurs, I also realized the dragon was alot smaller than the minotaur.
Please, could you consider making the shadow dragon larger? To be honest, it rather looks like a core creature with somewhat big wings right now, especially due to its small size.
