no matter how great Ashan could hypothetically become (and that's definitely a hypothetical only), even if George RR Martin, Brandon Sanderson, Neil Gaiman or anyone else with actual talent took over it and turned it into a Booker Prize winning setting, it will still never be able to wipe out the big brown stain of having the ****** Heroes 5 story and the character of Isabel in its world history lol
like asking somebody to salvage the world of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight, much easier to just make a new one lol

It helps that at the time I didn't think too much regarding the lore, and instead just played the game...
Seriously though, I thought initially that it was the sequel of Heroes III but it was more due to the fact that unlike Heroes IV it returned to a more familiar gameplay, so I deduced (wrongly) that it was the sequel of Heroes III.
(Mostly because I knew Catherine had a son called Nicolai and, what do you guess, the ruler at the time of HV was also called Nicolai)
But still, better lore than the prequels...

For me I don't even need the lore to like or not a setting. As I said countless times, I think all that comes from the setting has strong influence on the game, starting in terms of immersion = the world you dive into.

1. I do not know if it was forced upon the developers or if they just thought the 7 schools thing would be cool. Either way, they can put as many or as little magic schools as they want with some renaming.
2-Factions are race based yes, and (H5 non withstanding) this had the grand effect of....giving pointy ears to the Chaos town assassin. If they desired to literally copy the H3 lineups, they can. This idea that creatures from different factions cant be in the same lineup is just in your heads, as the Dungeon Medusa shows.
3-Once again design choices that had lore shaped around them afterwards. Hell, most of those classes were already in H6 and there they were just different shades of the main might/magic class.

Nah, it just needs better writing so the "Alexandra Romanov/Marie Antoniette with a sword" she is supposed to be shows up. And to make her subjects look actually aware that she is snowing up bigtime but being unable to do anything since she's the Queen (and has a thing for calling traitors the ones that dont follow her order)

that would be a pretty good solution if we had a time machine with which we could go back in time and actually implement it lol

I'd love to see a post-H6 version of H5 events, just as I would like to see what Restauration of Erathia would have been had it been set in Ashan (this is the part when one of the usual special people replies "spiders/spikes/purple" and gets a QP since "omg so funny and clever")

Actually we know more from playing 50 Shades of Purple and MMX, than from this article.

Talking about localization again.
Today I received a mail survey about M&M Beta. As I picked Russia as my country in Uplay, the language of the survey was Russian and I wasn't able to change it asap. Ok, said I, let's try it in Russian.
IT. IS. DONE. IN. GOOGLE. TRANSLATE. I hope so at least, if it was "manual" work...
The text is something like this:

Thanks for helping to know us that you're better and improve your gaming experience !
I'm closer than ever to succumbing to the bloodrage now. I refuse to do this survey which was so awfully localised, although I really wish to give feedback. Gosh, I don't know, ask Irina Kassina for a help after all...

Complaints about localization... if even the english one didn't have mistakes like "Dongeon"-faction that kinda stood out. And even the whole questionare doesn't even try to go to the root of problems by asking "why". Instead it's just how do you like whatever on scale 1 to 5...
