That's the kind of sales you get with no marketing and poor state of the game at release. SC site is not a proper game promotion, there were almost no previews on major gaming sites and even the reviews are simply not there (e.g. Gamespot, Eurogamer?). These sites even review Indie and Early Access games but not a supposedly AAA release.

If IRC, heroes 5 had almost no promo. Though the figures are bigger.

So I wonder if the following data is fail or win according to the real budget of the game? Of course, this data includes only steam statistics, there are just uplay+retail sales but still... 50k is almost nothing even for two weeks after the release. Means they've collected slightly more than 2500k.
So... what do you think about the future of the series? Will it be abandoned or will ubi make another chapter?

One thing for sure - Ubisoft won't sale the rights to the franchise. Once they acquire a franchise, they keep it, even if they don't make new games (look at Settlers and Prince of Persia.) There are two possibilities - the optmistic and the pessimistc one. The optimistic one is that Ubi executives finally bring some order into the stuff responsible for the franchise, give next game a roper budget and maybe we finally get a worthy successor of TotE. The pessimistic option is that the franchise enters a limbo stage, where nothing will happen, no new games will be released and the fanbase will slowly start to die out... As much as I want the first one to happen, I'm afraid the second one is the more likely one.

the series needs to be taken out of Team Erwin's deplorable hands and rested for a while, it's been turned into an empty shell of itself,

the only real chance of greatness again is for these stinky, crappy embers to die out now and preserve the franchise in cold storage, that way its reputation won't sink further and a phoenix can eventually rise from its ashes under competent management lol

I'm not sure the options described are that bad. The worst thing IMO is they will continue making <100k copies sold with <1000k$ budget games. Like h7 or worse.

I actually believe that Ashan can and should be saved - we just need some adjastments to the factions (see my Ashan 200 years later thread in Altar of Wishes for details) and much more mature writing. By mature I mean something like Abercrombie (if you use HoMM III style visuals) or at least Prattchet Jr., if you want lighter tone for the game. Just let them design both factions' lore and the plot and you are already golden.

Then the only thing you need is a solid gameplay and... well, datamining this forum for a month as well as playing first five HoMM games, Age of Wonders 3, Eador: Genesis, Endless Legend and Fantasy Wars/Elven Legacy for the same month should give you a lot of worthwhile ideas for the gameplay. Hell, I (and pretty much any hardcore old-school player) could design it, given the chance.

And last step should be visuals. Visuals are not important for HoMM, at least not that important. But they should fit the narrative and be immersive, while not looking cheap... which is surprisingly not that hard to do.

The concepts behind Ashan are good, but the realisation was never better than mediocre (sorry, Nival, but your plot and some characters were ridiculous at times). I would really like a proper Ashan game to be made - in my head this world is alive and marvelous and I am sorry to see how little of its possibilities are used.

Didn't think about that. This would also be bad, really bad...

@verriker: By serious changes I've also meant kicking Erwan out of his position. He really has no idea what to do with the franchise and the franchise simply cannot afford another game of "seeking the right path", as it was in the Heroes VII's case.

I have totally nothing against Ashan (though I know ppl here will stone me for that lol) but In H5 it was cool and fresh. Ih h6 it was a total mess, far from heroes.

Me tok. However, they need to do is finally go ahead with the storyline. Marzhin is so eager to do that and create something completely new, yet he can't because oopsie, we have another prequel.

aside from its bad writing, the main apprehension with Ashan is that it's Erwin's brainchild,
if you dump his team you may as well dump his setting too and be fair enough to give the new guy a clean slate (Erwin himself would concur) lol

Um... It's not. Erwan is an author of the concept (or, more likely, some of the concepts), but it was Fabrice and guys from Nival who executed the aforementioned concepts for the first time. They laid a proper foundation to the future installments I'd like to respect, even if those installments, which were not done by them, were failures more often than not.

A good writer will be able to change Ashan for the better, while not making us go through introducing the new world with all the problems that come with it. Because, for example, you can't really have a complex introduction story - look at Halo series for example, where they went from "Humans good, Covenant stupid, Flood bad" to quite complex and interesting storylines over the course of just two games and had been having one of the best storylines in gaming since that.

I think the most opposite force from many here against Ashan is the amount of influence it has in shaping some mechanics, such as changing some units signature abilities, and the amount of importance it started having (lore first, rest later) from H6 on, the game trying to sell perched upon campaigns only and story, instead of its capability of replayability and customization. I believe if this influence gets decreased, Ashan might go just fine (and taking out those 7 dragons ^^).

well it's a fact that Erwin and Richard Dansky created Ashan, and as we've all been dictated to many times, Heroes 5 is not an authentic ("IP compliant" ) representation of it and doesn't really count, the Nival guys didn't even want to use it, they wanted to use Axeoth and I don't think Fabrice really cared either way lol

I would have pushed very hard to keep Axeoth out of respect for its writers because the storytelling of Heroes 4 was so good that it should have continued, but when I have no respect for Team Erwin and am asking them to go, I certainly don't expect their successors to inherit their setting with crappy, messy storytelling, if I have any respect for the successors I will be open to them creating whatever they want to create lol

I helped put the notes together but some clever soul at Ubi made them look pretty.

Because it's the first patch post launch and there's A LOT of fixes.
