Low? Not at all! In H3 (previous games do not count because flyers could cross the battlefield regardless of speed) each faction had 1 unit that could cross the battlefield. In H5 we have: 3 in dungeon, 1 in academy(2 with swiftness), 2 in haven(3 if paladins are numerous enough to split), 3 in inferno(4 with swiftness), 1 in sylvan(4 with swiftness!!!), 1 in fortress(5 wth rune of charge lol), and 2 with stronghold(3 with swiftness and battlecry). Only necro lacks a speed 8 unit. And flying dragons in particular had 9 speed more than enough for a first turn charge.

Well it's more of a "we're slowly wraping things up and withdrawing" then anything else. So sad, but this is only natural with a flop like Heroes 7. I would never have guessed that I will ever look on a Heroes game with disgust...

So sad...

I mean, the game is even more bashed then Diablo III was when it was in it's early days, but that one kinda came through. In H7 case I don't see any hope...

But I'd like more than just being able to attack the unit 8 spaces in front of you. You don't see anything greater than 9, where are the 12+ creatures, what was wrong with that? The first thing I like to do with my fliers is stop the ranged units from shooting, and with H6 and H7 (maybe H5) you can't see the other team's troops when your setting up your army so i don't know where to put my first turn chargers to do so. And doesn't it take 9 movement to cross if its a single tile creature standing in the back?

But that's what bugs me the most about the nerfed movement since the older games, the fact that you can't easily fly to enemy shooters. Makes turtling so much easier and encouraged, makes creeping a lot easier...

Not necessarily, this is something that should have been done long ago imo. SC never had a place for voicing fan concerns, wishes or complaints so every article would inevitably get spammed with the same things ad infinitum. It was the only way to be heard and the upvote system further promoted that behaviour. Keeping the SC for updates and moving the discussions to the forums is a sensible decision all in all.

Please. All the actually important decisions that should have been put to a vote were decided long before anything was announced.

Not gonna miss it but it doesn't fill me with hope for the most likely unavoidable expansion(s). The game is a couple of months old and it will not even have an official homepage anymore just some generic Ubi forums.
It really feels like this is the point the series has died. It took a while for the spider venom to kill it off finally.

I guess it was meant to be. Not many people liked having go through hundreds of comments to find something meaningful to discuss about.

Although, if you ask me, this could be perceived as a marketing plan. After all, since the release of the game, there have been nothing than complaints. This way they could just ensure whoever is interested in buying the game wouldn't see the (negative) reception from the fans.

All they have to do is look at the steam rating, and to my knowledge excluding preorders most of the sales were digital, so I doubt that.

I hate to revert to AoW3 once more, but there they did it quite nicely. All ranged units had two range markers. The first one indicated how far they could shoot for full damage, the second one how far they could shoot beyond that, for half damage. There was no unlimited range like in Heroes games so far.

Especially with some of the larger battlefields in H7, it would make sense that you'd have a maximum ranged attack distance too. Take for instance that underground battlemap, where you needed about 4 turns to travel to the other side as a melee unit, before hitting the enemy battle lines (if they chose to stay put while peppering you in a hail of arrows). Why would all shooters be able to reach full range, even at half damage? Why not make that something peculiar for Mages, for instance? Differentiates between ranged units, too.

The limited range of shooters in AoW3 actually forced players to advance the battle lines and made melee charges more viable at the same time. You couldn't really turtle in your starting position while peppering enemy units, because you had a hard time keeping them off you once they finally got within range. At the same time, this allowed for more combat dynamics in its own right, especially due to the presence of objects on the battlefield, which could create chokepoints, but also be destructable at times, giving opportunities for various approaches to tackle the opposing force.

That's lacking in Heroes.

Limbic said they prefer Steam forums over SC due to threads, so this could mean that devs will be active in the Ubi forums from now on. Since Ubi obviously stopped working on the SC site a long time ago, they gave up the Community section and moved everything to the official forums. It was the only sensible thing to do at this point IMO, although it means I probably won't visit the site any more. Now I could read the article, see immediate responses to the content and some of the most popular feedback in general in one downward sweep. It was even easy on touch devices. Now you'd have to visit two different sites and open several pages in several threads to get the same overview. Even more cumbersome on touch.

Regarding a possible expansion, I still don't think there will be one. They are months behind schedule, working on bugs and content that should have been done before release. That has to be eating up more than what was budgeted for post launch support. Combined with the bad reception and poor sales, management will be reluctant to throw even more many at the game. To this date H6 has sold 10 times as much as H7, and that game only got one expansion before it died.

In H4 the Orcs had a 4 times drop off in damage on longer ranges, but if they were to change it i'd like to see them going the AoW route.

Maurice, the feature that units get 2 ranges, one for half and another for full, has been suggested - and rejected by the design team. (As a couple of variations on that theme.)

Although I should go , it doesn't surprise me at this point. Missed opportunity, if you ask me. By varying the half and full range distances for ranged units, they could have really diversified them among eachother.

Exactly. I liked the possibility to give, say, a Crossbow a high damage, say, 4-7, with a full range of, for example 4 and a half range of 8, for example, and an Elven Longbow a damage of 3-5, but a range of 6/12, for example, while you might even go as far as give a "Harpooner" or a unit that throws a weapon something like 6-10, full range of 5 and no half range at all.

Sounds really cool and an interesting way to add some diversity, cause we really needed it with the ranged units. All the ranged elites fit that same 'normal elite' spot without even one of them being the factions strongest elite unit...none of them stand out. They're basically just reskins of the same unit.....same with the cores imo, with only the elven archer being different from the rest.
