If on the subject introducing more female creatures, why not a lady vampire? If Ubi is so into satisfying heterosexual male fantasies with their unit designs, I can't imagine why they haven't thought of that yet...
H7 Necropolis biggest problem isn't the units themselves (except spider) but the green spider-goo theme.

Not sure if you're serious or not, but we voted on the vampire design after the necropolis revealing fiasco. As I recall the results were:
-Vampire knight(3rd place)
-knight lady(2nd place)
-Feral vampire(won the vote)

They did with a poll between the night lady and the blood "monster" but most of people voted for the bloodthirsty "monster". You know the one rocking gorgeous hair and armor(typical characteristis of a monster). Some units cannot just crossover. Push enough and a half decent "thing" goes through

It's not terrifying or anything. H1,3,4, and even 5 all had more of the undead look imo. Besides its not the same without that hilarious shriek

Heroes 3:
- Strong heroine saving her country and the world (Catherine) when her highest commander, a man (General Kendal) fails badly at everything and her king husband (Roland) gets captured by the enemy
- Ostracized heroine (Adrienne) saving her homeland from male all-around jerk (Lord Haart)
- Male "badass ultra-alpha" (Kilgor) destroying the world along with another true alpha (Gelu)
Heroes 4:
- Woman saving the world from a power-hungry man (Garvin Magnus) and leading the greatest nation on earth (Emilia)
- Badass woman brutally dominating a bunch of guys in her rise to power (Tawni)
- Barbarians who have feelings saving their race from being destroyed by their own "alpha males"
Heroes 5:
- Damsel in distress who lacks a brain (Isabel) is charmed by a man (Markal) to the point of almost destroying the world and has to be saved by a bunch of guys (Zehir, Raelag, Godric)
- Sexy demon ladies showing you their to appease young (mostly) male gamers
- Extremely sexualized Dark elven ladies who like BDSM for gamers who are into that kind of stuff
- Barbarians who are true macho alpha male stereotypes and say little more than "ugh no want to be slave more. Me crush skulls" and save the world
.....yeah, I really see your point there. We who prefer the old games truly long for the days when there were no strong and rememberable female characters, only macho alphas like... eh... the guys who always died in the end back then...
Completely off topic. I was talking about female units, not heroes.
It was high time that Ubi moved away from the all-male line ups of the past (with the occasional oversexed token female unit) and I am glad they did. But you don't seem to get it. It's ok.
AnkVaati said:
Of course, males are still a bit overrepresented (noticeably among the most racially homogeneous town - Haven), and I'm all for having more female creatures. But the difference in the old games isn't as big as you and SoilBurn seems to think. If anything, this seems to stem from Ubi's/Erwan's/Ashan's pitful idea of making the towns race-based instead of theme-based as in the old world, which makes creature genders more noticeable by severely limiting the number of gender-ambiguous beastly creatures.
Don't even try to come up with random numbers. I have played H4 a lot (it was one of my favorite games back then) and I still consider it one of the best in the series, despite it deviating from the Heroes formula the most so far. Yes, it did have some random female units (I think more than the previous entries and probably H5). But no, they were still token female units with large boobs and visible bras(or mandatory ones like the medusa, the harpy or the mermaid, which can only be female).
What Ubi did (since H6), which I strongly support, is increase the percentage of female units in lineups, without falling into male fanservice traps (like e.g. King's Bounty or the old HoMM titles).
The H6 Ghost, Yuki-Onna and Mizu Kami are some of my favorite creatures designs lately. From H7 the Dryad, the Valkyrie, the Justicar & the Centaur are the most notable additions that fall into the above category and which I particularly like. But tastes are tastes I guess.
My worst nightmare are lineups which have no cohesion, i.e. ones which are not race- or theme-based. I have no problem seeing the occasional beast in a certain town, but a lineup made (to take an H4 example) of a troglodyte, an orc, a human, a medusa, an efreet, a hydra, a dragon and you-name-it is simply nonsensical and immersion-breaking.

Oh God, cut me some slack with this social justice nonsense, please keep heroes out of it. "Oversexed" units in NWC era? Please look at h5 dungeon first. This is not a game where there must be X females and Y males, units should be put just because they look cool and fit with their faction/role, not to meet some quota. Ofc units like medusa, harpy and mermaid are going to be female, because why the hell would they be male? This trend to just balance males with females started with h6 and it's good that h7 toned it down at least a bit. If it looks cooler as a female and it makes sense, then make it female, if it looks cooler as a male and it makes sense, then make it male, simple as that. Also most units, at least in NWC heroes, were ambiguous, beasts which could be either gender and we can add undead here too. But oh, "oversexualized" units in NWC era, excuse me? Harpy was oversexualized? Medusa was oversexualized? Was Naga oversexualized? H2 archers were oversexualized Oh wait I know, water elementals in h3 were sexualized because they had no bras. You may say that pegasi riders and unupgraded pixies were "oversexualized", but look at pit fiends then, oh wait, they don't count as they are males

No, it's completely relevant when you're trying to portray us who prefer the NWC games as some sort of bigoted chauvinists who prefer the old world because of "old world fixated-macho-anachronistic views" when females were portrayed in a lot less stereotypical and sexualized manner in the old world, in fact.
SoilBurn said: Don't even try to come up with random numbers.
Uhh... they were anything but random, you can see the calculations I did in my post. Doh...
SoilBurn said: It was high time that Ubi moved away from the all-male line ups of the past
All-male line ups.. who never existed. Yeah, it's good to move away from stuff that don't exist. I agree.
SoilBurn said: Yes, it did have some random female units (I think more than the previous entries and probably H5). But no, they were still token female units.

You seem to view the gender-ambiguous beasts/monsters the NWC titles were full of as typically "male" - something that says a lot about you viewing masculinity as the norm (yeah, now I sounded like a gender studies professor, lol). Heh, the only time we get to really interact with dragons in the H4 campaigns (Erwin and Sarahea, part 4) they are two females into a relationship.
So they didn't "fall into male fanbase traps" when they made all those over-sexualized female creatures with notable sexually appealing features for young teen male players? Okay. I really don't think the notion of Ubi improving gender equality in their games seriously considering how they portray females all the time. I lever thought one could make the Medusa look like something from a harem bu Ubi said leul.

Of course you did.
Yea, tastes are tastes but I understand completely. My ex gf would have killed for any of those. Literally. I don't remember the last time I spoke with a girl with the waist size of that dryad either, must have been my cousin when she had anorexia... terrible stuff...

I think we can rest easy in saying that apart from Isabel, sexism was never a problem among the many this series had, pre or post Ashan.
Now yeah, listing "problems in representing women, apart from Isabel" is like wanting to talk about "Star Wars apart from that lightsaber-wielding magical guys". But then again, what can you do to forget about Isabel? What has been seen can't be unseen.

Except really heroes was meant to be that army of beasts with the occasional humanoid unit not the other way around. It's a big reason why many of us fell in love with the series to begin with. That is one of those changes Ubi made that I strongly disagree with.

Exactly. That's why about a half of H4's creatures were gender-ambiguous or genderless. This was hardly an issue that people took notice of until Ubi came and wanted to put big breasts companied with unrealistically small waists on half of their race-based lineups. There's already WoW for those who want to have their game full of oversexualized females.

What Ubi did in HVI: Somebody said, make every line-up (HVI) with at least 2 female units, no matter how good they are. And that's how they made it, clearly somebody had to decide on it.
You criticize "female units with large boobs and visible bras" in HIV but completely naked female units made of light and water don't bother you ? xD and also Lilim, Fury, Centaur, Pearl Priestess, Valkyrie, Dryad all have bras, so what ? it depends for you on the design of bra ?

there were indeed a few weirdoes at HC who for whatever their reasons expressed they love lots of macho men in their lineups and would rather it be all macho men, yucky cooties etc, but I wouldn't correlate that infantile close minded mentality to the NWC team or their games, that doesn't make any sense lol
personally I would be 100% up for a Haven where all pikemen, swordsmen, crusaders, peasants are female or neuter just to challenge our conditioning to think that's odd, I really don't give a **** what sex a unit is, the more diverse and the more feminine for a change the merrier,
however, let's not sit here and pretend Team Erwin's motives have been anything but cynical and commercially driven in that,
Erwin said: The Sylvan faction appealed to "female mainstream" gamers who "liked unicorns"
Nival said: Plus, female units make the faction more pleasurable to one's eye.

Why is Heroes "meant" to be like this? Just because the early games were like this? What is the issue with having a cohesive lineup that makes logically sense? You don't have to have 7 Elves or 7 Humans. But if a faction is based on Human towns, I expect to see at least 3-4 humans or combinations of humans/mounts in there (and the remaining 3-4 units can be something different that fits the lore and concept of the certain faction).
EDIT #2: To the guy below me: What is wrong with the Dungeon unit you are showing? It has correct proportions. Yes, it is scantly dressed because it fits the theme of its faction. But so are the male Orc & Goblin units in the same game. That does not make them oversexualized. I think you have to look up some terms.

Btw what is there in the dank cold underground dungeons of Ashan that suits the theme of the dark elves having skimpy clothes or BDSM underwear, I always thought that is the oddest thing about the oversexualized dark elf dungeon of Erwin, I mean come on they're not from a desert or a volcanic they're in a freezing cave, give them some light armor at least lol
