I get that Heroes 7 is not a well-optimised game, however anyone who thinks 5-year-old computer is modern is kidding himself. Even a top ranged PC bought 5 years ago would not perform good today at all, and im talking top range $2K range.
Starcraft 2 running well does not show much at all, the game is quite old now and it is processor intensive, whereas games like Heroes 7 are very intensive on your graphic card which is THE most important part in modern PC.
ABSOLUTE MINIMUM specs to be able to buy and play new games off steam would be:
1. Intel i5 2.0 Ghz
2. 8 GB RAM
3. Last but the most important one - 2GB (Better 3 or 4 GB )Graphic card, Radeon 270x or Nvidia Equivalent like 660OC would be the absolute minimum to play comfortably.
Also, consider investing in Solid state drives or a HIGH speed HDD - 7200RPM or more.
Anything below this specs and you would be lucky to run new games at LOW, you WILL encounter numerous crashes and freezes and lags in new games, and only few well made, processor intensive games will run well - Dark Souls 2(outdated graphics), Starcraft 2(processor intensive and old), etc.

Also, try sacrificing some animal to the Spider Messiah, it may allow your game to work...
Your post is not important - here are official minimum specs:
OS:
Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8/8.1 (Only 64bit)
Processor:
Intel Core i5 660 3.3 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2 GHz
RAM:
4 GB
Video card:
NVidia GeForce GTX460 or AMD Radeon HD5850 (1024 MB VRAM)
So, if you fulfil the minimum requirements, you must be able to run the game, be it on low settings, without a problem. SC2 may be older, but it is much better looking, and don't forget better optimized (not to mention that it does not have memory leaks )
So defending Ubi and Limbic and their retarded H7 with arguments: your specs sux is stupid, as clearly people with much better pc than minimum requirements still have problems with game.

Exactly. The game SHOULD run.
@ Momo
My advice is to go into the options menu and configure the game with lowest settings.

Absolutely not, my main computer which is a desktop is more than 6 years old with 6GB RAM and 680GTX Nvidia and i5 processor, no trouble running modern games (Witcher included), h7 is the ONLY game that sucks that much in terms of optimization, it's as they hired interns or some ****, seriously I bet Lizard programs better than some people at Limbic and he's not even pro.

Man you guys have some awful computers
I can honestly say if you think homm vii is hard on your computer you must not do much modern gaming. Especially with UE4 games starting to come out, if you don't have a pretty beast machine good luck even starting some of the games coming out in the next couple of years, let alone getting a playable framerate.
Homm vii isn't the most well optimized game but I actually could run it on my old laptop which was below minimum specs. Main issue is initial loading times, but it's typically fine after that. On my 5 year old gaming desktop it runs fine (i3-2100 and radeon hd6950) and it runs very easily on my newer desktop (i7-4790k, gtx 970). I can't take these criticisms seriously, especially since many of the people here clearly understand nothing about computers.

I don't understand people defending Ubilimbic in this... I really don't. Everything else is debatable, chaps, but this is unacceptable: H7 is a pure technical trash.
Actually I'm able to run the game just fine in my laptop (not at the lowest specs, by the way), but I can feel my hardware warming up to the exhaustion and the loading times starting the editor... oh man!

LOL!
I will repeat what has been said over, and over again. H7 is sh*tty. I mean, it has memory leaks ffs! I don't know on windows, but on linux you have free tools to test your programs for leaks (valgrind comes to mind). Limbic is a company with 50+ employees. If they are serious (for the sake of argument let us say that they are) they should have QA to test theri game. Most of the problems people are having is something that you reproduce easily (mainly start the game). So saying that this criticism is not serous is laughable. H7, Ubi and Limbic should not be taken serious ffs!
@Galaad Nice one

I think at this point, it's not far fetched, that Ubisoft could literally have taken Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, renamed it to Might&Magic: Heroes 7 and put that up for 60 quid on Steam, and some people would still go to hell and back to divert, distort or dismiss criticism of that game lol

You think is rocket science or something? If a game requiring better specs runs better than another one asking for less -in this case h7- you don't need some PhD to understand water is wet.

did you miss the part where I could run it on a system below minimum specs? Unless you have some actual benchmarking data everyone is just shooting anecdotes back and forth, but given some of the posts here it's clear there's a lot of ignorance about gaming specs and requirements. I mean, that one guy, momo, didn't even know how to post his specs. How you can take that kind of criticism seriously is beyond me lol

Yeah it runs "fine" (at least I had less trouble than some other people I read) on 6GB, my laptop got 16GB, barely any difference. But yeah, nevermind.

Maybe momo has no knowledge of computers, but you clearly said that every one of us cannot be taken serously, because we are all ignorant. My posts were about shi*tty programming (and I wasn't the only one who had similar posts).
You are lucky if you can run the game with weaker specs, and if you had any problems with game, you should not receive any support as you do not fulfil the minimum requirements. What about the ones who fulfil them (or even optimal?) and game has issues?
Memory leak is a programming bug that happens when you allocate memory for something, use it, and do not de-allocate it, so it can be used for something else. In other words, the memory is trapped, until the program finishes. If that is repeated during the program runtime, it will consume the whole memory and it will crush. Adding more ram will only delay the inevitable.
Many people say that they have loading time problems, even on computers above minimum specs: that is called poor optimization. I'm not the expert for unreal engine, but I can say for certain that it is not the engine's problem. Inexperienced programmers messed up. In programming (in general) you can solve problems in many different ways. However, there are only few that are efficient. Also, there are different type of 'being efficient': you can use more ram, or processor. Cleary, the devs failed with the game.
Also, there are some extreme exapmles of optimization:
.kkrieger, FPS that takes only 98 kilobytes. I'm not saying that this should be the goal, but this clearly shows that you can optimize the game.

Well, it runs fine on my MSI gaming laptop as well, except that the game is at patch 2.0, it's 11 month after release and after numerous patches I still cannot interact with weekly resource-giving buildings like the Warehouse - which I suppose is one of NUMEROUS bugs that come with the saving process, and no matter how the game runs or not runs and how randomly it seems to run on some configs and not on thers, when the saving process is faulty - then you have no game, because game is basically over once you have to save.
Add to that the memory leak, the hotfix of which is saving and cache-emptying, and what you have is a mess that no one should have to put up with.

Actually yes, this is exactly what people should do to play new games at good performance. Don't like it but a console instead
